5.0 out of 5 stars Finally! A book that tells it all!

A.K. · January 23, 2008

101 Foods That Could Save Your Life is definitely a book for those to add to their collection who are interested in food, health, cooking and/or good reading. Grotto makes this book a delight to read by making it an easy to follow food by food guide to what you should eat and why you should eat it. I also explores basic histories and the who, what, why and where of eat food along with delicious recipes to follow. The best things about this book are that it isn't a diet. It doesn't tell you what not to eat, it tells you the about the healthiest foods out their that will benefit your body and why. Once your done, it becomes a great cookbook and reference book again and again!Try the swiss chard tacos. They are delish! Who would of thought to put chard in tacos. The blackberry crisp is to die for! I made it for brunch for a party and it was the first dish to go.Trust me, as a fellow foodie and one concern with their health and longevity. Buy this book and give it as a gift. You won't be sorry!

4.0 out of 5 stars Life saving foods, now I KNOW what they do and why I should eat them!

Very interesting information. Also a recipe for each item. The book is written alphabetically, beginning with acai and ending with yogurt. Mr. Grotto describes each food, gives some history on it, where it's grown or how it came to be, why you should eat it and what healthy attributes in holds. The last item is a recipe to use it in.The recipes are easy to follow and, the ones I've looked at, sound pretty good. In fact, after I read about amaranth, I bought some to use!The only down side? Using the term, "food", when some are herbs/spices, but this isn't a big deal.

If you want every morsel of food to count in the picture of your present and future health, this is the book to keep on hand. Even better, to gift to friends and loved ones. I keep buying copies and giving them to people in health crises. Knowing what to eat is an empowering gift.

5.0 out of 5 stars 101 Foods

101 Foods That Could Save Your LifeMr. Grotto's thorough research and unfeigned style make this book a winner. By including tidbits of ancillary information, he provides a mnemonic that facilitates recall of the details that, indeed, could ameliorate the maladies that follow the Western diet. I use Mr. Grotto's text in my private practice as a way to "break the ice" with patients. I suggest that,if you want to keep possession of this book, you do not lend it out.Dr. Tom WnorowskiClinical Nutritionist

5.0 out of 5 stars WHAT A GREAT BOOK!

M. · June 5, 2008

I bought the Kindle edition of this book. I'm glad I did, since I always have my Kindle with me. Now when visiting friends and family and I mention that they should use one of the included foods of this book I can back up my assertions.I used this book for no other reason that to improve my diet, which is pretty good but every bit counts. I even tried a few of the recipes and they came out great. This is a terrific buy. Easy to read and understand. Well done!

Great book to read I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to buy it

You are what you eat.

L. · May 7, 2013

This book has lots of tips as to what to eat and what not to eat. It true that you are what you eat - just look in the mirror and figure it out for yourself. Pleased with what you see - then you are likely eating the right foods. Not pleased with what you see? Review what you eat on a daily basis not just once in awhlle. Make the change and get healthy if necessary.

Close to impossible to read !!!

J.W. · July 25, 2016

The 436 page paperback was so tiny and the print so small and the pages so many that it could not be opened well enough to read and certainly not without a magnifying glass. Being totally disgusted, I gave up after only a few minutes. I place ALL the blame on the publisher. There is little inner margin and the book cannot be opened wide enough to actually read because of the way the book is constructed. They must have been trying to save money on publishing and in effect annoyed likely anyone who has bought it. This edition was a total waste of money.Notice how close to the edge on the left it is and how narrow the pages are. To open it up well enough to read it will destroy the book. There is no inner margin. It looks like the main body of text is in 8 pt type and the recipes seem to be in 6 pt type, which would not be possible to read for most people who are concerned about their health as they get older. This should have an age limit on it for those under 30 years of age and those who do not need glasses already.
