About this item:
Perspective, the author tells us, is easy; yet surprisingly few artists are aware of the simple rules that make it so. This easy-to-follow book—the first devoted entirely to clarifying the laws of perspective—remedies the situation. In it, the author uses over 250 simple line drawings to illustrate the concepts involved.
Beginning with clear, concise, immediately applicable discussions of the horizon, vanishing point, and the crucial relationship of eye level to perspective drawing, you'll learn how to place figures and objects in a drawing, depict interiors, create shade and shadows, and achieve all the other elements necessary for a successful perspective drawing. By repeatedly stressing important points, Mr. Norling teaches you to make them second-nature. Moreover, his approach is so simple and direct that no matter how little raw talent or experience you have, you will soon be able to apply these techniques almost instinctively.
Mastery of perspective is a basic skill every artist must have. This simple, nontechnical guide will enable you to master its essentials in a relatively short time. Clear and concise, this book is an essential addition to any artist's bookshelf.

I first encountered it in high school art class circa 1968. Then I ran into it again in college during the 70's, in an Architectural Rendering class. I met it again during my 2nd trip into college mid 80's, in a Drawing Design class, again two semesters later in a Perspective Drawing class, & again the following semester in a Watercolor class. The book begins at square one on page one, with the most simple single point perspectives relative to a flat horizon. It progresses, step by step, through more complex compositions, with multiple vanishing points, planes, & horizon locations. This purchase was a replacement copy for the one I wore out. It will drive you to be a better artist, & to attempt more complex compositions.
5.0 out of 5 stars Very Helpful
I haven’t read the book yet. But, I thumbed through it to get a sense of what it contained. So I have posted a before and after set of my art. I am currently painting and drawing from imagination in an attempt to get my technique down. I did these a day apart, and I referred to the book for the drawing. I used a single vanishing point for the drawing. I think that the difference is obvious. I’m looking forward to reading this book as it has already helped me along my journey into art. I suggest that you will also like this book.
5.0 out of 5 stars An Essential Read for Artists: Embracing Growth and Learning in Creativity!
I bought this book based on Matt White's recommendation, an artist whose journey I greatly admire. Having studied graphic design in school and now working as an artist, I understand the importance of constantly honing my skills and exploring new techniques. This book provided a valuable refresher as I delve into creating scenery with characters in my unique style, with aspirations of illustrating children's books and potentially teaching art to young learners. What resonated with me the most was the reminder that all artists, regardless of their experience, must continue to learn and evolve. We're all on a journey of growth and discovery, and staying connected with fellow artists and embracing lifelong learning is crucial. As Michelangelo famously said, "I am still learning." This book comes highly recommended for anyone dedicated to their creative journey!
4.0 out of 5 stars Nearly ancient how-to book that is still relevant.
This book is even older than I am. Written and illustrated in a clear and straightforward style, it does the job.
5.0 out of 5 stars A classic book on perspective
This book's title really says what the book is about. Even doing the first few chapters you can impress people with simple one-point perspective drawings and give them away to make their day
5.0 out of 5 stars Great guide on perspective drawing.
This is a great, comprehensive book on perspective drawing. Easy for beginners but something that I often refer back to. Would definitely recommend.
5.0 out of 5 stars Very detailed
This is an excellent book if you’d like to learn about perspective. Straight to the point!
3.0 out of 5 stars book originally published in 1939
I think it's important to consider that this book was written and published in NINETEEN THIRTY NINE! lol. I'm sure our ability to teach perspective drawing has evolved since then. well, the book is simply written and has exercises at the end of every chapter. it's pretty cute. still, I think I'd rather spend my money on a better, more modern book. sheesh. lol.

Whether you’re an artist, strategist, or someone navigating the nuances of composition (digital painting, photography, drawing...), this book is a valuable resource
Perspectiva facil
Clear explanations and instructions, easy to follow and well illustrated.
Clear explanations and instructions, easy to follow and well illustrated. It's good to have a book on this important, though sometimes ignored area of art and design. Good value. Curiously, the book seems to be quite old fashioned as if it could have been written in the 1950s, though it is entirely modern.
