5.0 out of 5 stars The only one of its kind
This actually is the only book that presents a treatment of wireless communincations in throughly rigorous way, and yet does not loose touch with practice. The usual books in digital communication, especially the industry standard Salehi, have mostly been outdated by this book.I have done coursework with Viswanath, and was one of the students on which the initial drafts of this books was "tried and tested." Viswanath has few equals in his research area (which itself he keeps expanding), and consistently amazes everyone with how closely he is in touch with what the industry is doing. This is reflected throughout the book. The book can be reqd with the standard prereqs - a good understanding of undergraduate to first year graduate probability is required understand anything in communications theory, so that goes without saying. Some parts of the book will carry more juice for people who have a good knowledge of information theory, but Tse & Viswanath include a beautifully written appendix for people without this knowledge. The appendix is worth reading by itself, even for people who have taken courses in information theory before! The chapter that compares various wireless systems alone is worth the price of the book.As another reviewer pointed out, the exercises are not all simple. These were given in a homework setting, and there were TA's to assist people with the problems. They may be a little hard to solve alone.
5.0 out of 5 stars Good addition to the comms library
Good companion to older standard books like Proakis and Sklar. Covers a lot of modern topics older books lack or topics typically requiring you to seek out obscure and dense reference books. Covers impressive breadth and depth of subjects, for example MIMO. Writing is clear and easy to follow. Recommended for both academic use and the working comms engineer. Also huge kudos to Cambridge University Press who seem to be able to publish excellent hardcover textbooks that are affordable and aren't approaching 300 dollars a pop.
4.0 out of 5 stars Concise, MIMO & BER/SNR waterfall curves well writen
Chapters 7, 8 and v good.Appendix also useful.Easy readability. How each topic changes from AWGN to fading channels is well explained.
5.0 out of 5 stars very new just like described
I bought it at the price of used book (around half price of new one). There is just a remainder mark on the side. Except for that, it is like a new book. This book itself is a classical textbook for graduate students who work in the area of wireless communication. It may not cover all details of every technologies, but it does provide a clear picture and more importantly, it unifies many different technologies in one framework. So you can have a deeper understanding and appreciate more.
5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best
Compares well with the classics:1) Gallagher2) Wozencraft & Jacobs3) O & S (Signal processing)This is how text books ought to be written. Also, David Tse was key in developing the multiuser diversity concepts at QCOM. Hence - the book also has good engineering isights.
5.0 out of 5 stars Ontime delivery
Good quality of the product-completely satisfied
2.0 out of 5 stars Bad Printing Quality.
Print quality is very bad! I had this book before and printing was very different. This one seems thicker and larger, paper feels cheap.
5.0 out of 5 stars Five Stars
Good
A truly classic
This book represents the cutting edge of the fundamentals of wireless communication, presented in an easy to digest format. If authors were added full derivation of the equations then it would become a single source for understanding Wireless Communication by both ways theoretically and practically
One main point of view in wireless communications.
Whenever I need to refresh a wireless concept in a relatively easy manner, I always go back to this book.
The best in Wireless
Absolutely one of the best books in Wireless communication
