5.0 out of 5 stars A very enjoyable Novel
What I see in an author like Wayne Stinnett is that he is a story teller. I would think to hear him tell a story in person would be very similar to the way he writes the story. And as a story teller he needs to bring his audience to his world, keep them there and provide a rich textured "reality" for his characters to tell their story. He does that and does it very well. Yes, there are a few blips, in particular the ending (seemed to be too short for the big build-up that preceded it), but this is new ground here and I do believe that he is still finding his telling rhythm.I have read all of the Jesse McDermitt series to date and thoroughly enjoyed them all, as I did this novel. I had seven other books in front of this novel to read, and yet, once I started reading "Merciless Charity", it became my first read. Now I have got to catch up with the other books! But to me, that is a excellent indication of the quality of the read. We, and not just Americans, live in a pretty scary place. There are many American haters in the world and to see one group reap the consequences of their actions seems right to me. Mr. Stinnett does not use a broad brush to condemn or make his story a racist statement, but rather deals with the reality of our world. There are bad men and women in our world today that as individuals mean the USA and other countries harm. And there are other men and women working at keeping them from harming anyone. Not being a women, I am not sure exactly how well Mr. Stinnett hit the mark. In my opinion however, he did very well. And since, according to the intro to his book, his wife played a very important part. I do not think that he would be able to get away with not being on the mark! :-) And as far as I can tell his female perspective, not quite as smooth as Jesse McDermitt, was pretty realistic and believable. Charity is no "china doll"!So, I eagerly wait for his next book in this series and his next in the Jesse McDermitt series. I would rate this book about 4.7 but since Bolo system of rating does not allow partial stars, I have not problem giving it 5.
4.0 out of 5 stars Nice Intro to a New Action Series
Non-stop action, nice locations, lots of details on sailing. The story picks up once she arrives in Mexico and befriends a local fisherman. I loved the final engagement where she takes out every single bad guy, one by one. Enjoyed reading about the thermal imaging gadgets as well. I'm giving it 4 stars because for me it seems a bit far-fetched for the US government to send a single woman, on a secret mission to Mexico to catch and eliminate a band of terrorists single-handedly, no matter how capable or well trained she may be. But it's very entertaining to watch a female Jason Bourne who can speak English, Spanish, Arabic and can dance as well.
5.0 out of 5 stars Wayne Stinnette Novels
I like his storyline on the Charity series. The reading has kept my interest.
5.0 out of 5 stars The Evil Sister
Bad things in Life can bring out the evil sister or maybe we can call her a Gemini. Two faces, one so sweet you would never guess she has a dark side. Once Charity starts her mission it is hard to put the book down. Excellent.
4.0 out of 5 stars Good fast paced read
I enjoyed this one. Good fast paced action and believable characters. The bad guys were stereotypical for the whole "terrorist" lot. I wish writers would make them more sophisticated instead of the usual bumbling, ill prepared idiots. The main character was interesting and it was nice to have a woman be the protagonist for a change instead of the usual ex-military, testosterone fuled, deeply character flawed, alpha male character so often found in these types of novels. I enjoyed the tropical setting used in the story line and the development of the main characters back story. Looking forward to reading the other books in this series.
5.0 out of 5 stars Will not disappoint
I have read all the Jesse McDermitt books in the series and enjoyed every single one. Wayne's stories usually take place in the Florida Keys or Caribbean and are educational as well as exciting. Merciless Charity is a spin-off of the series and follows Charity, the pilot of Jesse's team helicopter, on a clandestine mission to Mexico to locate a group of terrorists who are training and plan to infiltrate into the US within the next week. Most of her trip is on the water in an old sailboat that had been upgraded with many modern conveniences that will allow the boat to sail itself. En route, Charity encounters a family of Cuban refugees and compromises the mission to save them. She also develops a love interest on one of her stops that might continue in the next book. This story, like the authors' others, are exciting and captivating. Charity is a professional sniper, trained in martial arts, and a skilled "sailor" since her youth. The clock is ticking and Charity can't afford to miss her timeline to stop the terrorists - any delays could compromise the mission. Readers will see her in action and see why she is "merciless."Good job, in taking on the role of a female protagonist in your spin-off, Wayne. I'm looking forward to continuing this series.
3.0 out of 5 stars Promising
Not as action packed as his other series but maybe because he was introducing a new character. Action picked up as the story went along. Shows promise of another good series of books Didn't feel the author was as confident about writing about a female character. Got better as story went along.
5.0 out of 5 stars Another great Charity story
Superbly written. Great characters.
A great sailing tale
If you know sailing terms you will love this book. It is a fast moving action packed novel. Loved it. You will like the ending.
Caribbean thriller series, Volume 1
Martial arts instructor and former Olympic swimmer and U.S. Army helicopter pilot, Charity Styles, now works for the (DHS) Department of Homeland Security. Having been held captive in Afghanistan, where she was raped and tortured repeatedly by the Taliban, she had been declared mentally unfit to return to flight duty status. After time in rehab’, Charity was invited to join the new Caribbean Counterterrorism Command (CCC), as part of a protection force. Still suffering regular nightmares & with scores to settle, she has to learn to keep her blood-lust under control during dangerous clandestine missions.‘Going rogue’ and sailing a forty-five-foot cutter-rigged sloop, Charity goes on the hunt for her target. He is known to have committed numerous atrocities against his own people in Afghanistan and is currently encamped, with more than a dozen other terrorists, in the crater of a supposedly extinct volcano, near the Gulf Coast of Mexico. Her journey begins with a solo voyage of a thousand nautical miles, her mission known to just two other people.... and The President! Can she possibly achieve her goal, against these odds?!
Fantastic spin off
Fantastic spin off. I look forward to the next in this series, as Charity sails her way around the globe.
Great read.
Such a great read. Charity is a broken hero, everything about her is human until she turns into a killing machine.
ONE SUPER FEMALE CHARGED WITH CLANDESTINE JOBS ONLY THE MOST HIGHLY TRAINED COULD ATTEMPT. AND SHE DOES. YOU'LL LOVE IT.
Wow! Now here is a chic for all seasons. From an unbelievable background as a former Olympian, a helicopter pilot, grav maga expert - plus other martial arts, a female killing machine is born, and into the employ of the US Gov't. The book is written in such a way as to give you an extremely detailed and interesting background for Charity Styles our femme fatale, and really sets the tone for future series books. A very well done epic story indeed. Nice, too, that this is a completely stand alone novel, but finishes in such a way that you're really tempted to keep going with the series. A genuinely good book of a genre many thoroughly enjoy - so go ahead, you have absolutely nothing to lose.
