About this item:
Designer Kellner (Knits for Kitties) blends nature guide with knitting know-how in this fun collection of stuffed animal knits for seasoned crafters.
― Publishers WeeklyThis is a lovely blend of science and craft. Recommended for most public libraries.
― Library JournalI can practically hear them purring!
This book is the ultimate in coziness: a collection of knitting patterns for different kitties, each one inhabiting their ideal space in a Victorian dream home. From the contented parlour cat snoozing by the fire, to the plump cook's cat lapping up the last drop from her dish, these cats bring life to the scenes around them. I was especially impressed by how Ms. Kellner managed to translate the vitality of cats into her knitted creations. The stretching porch cat is so clearly getting ready to yawn that I found myself following suit! Kellner also has some brilliant tricks for capturing color changes on calicos and tabbies; these details really add to a cat's individuality as well as their personality. For cat class and Victorian style, you'll love this book!
-- Sarah A Chrisman, author of Tales of Chetzemoka and founder of This Victorian LifeThe human backstories imbue what would otherwise be a fairly straightforward knitting guide with a healthy dose of personality, and photos of the plush cats amid Victorian decor help sell the vintage feel. This will make a worthy addition to any crafter’s shelf.
― Publishers WeeklySara Elizabeth Kellner is the author of Wild and Woolly Knitted Animals and the designer of Rabbit Hole Knits - toy and animal patterns for hand knitters. Her goal when designing is to create patterns that portray the animals realistically while still evoking the personality of each, a twinkle in each of their eyes, and the question "Did I just see that animal move?" on the lips of every knitter.

Easy to follow instructions, realistic looking kitties and interesting stories of Victorian House Cats!
5.0 out of 5 stars kitties with such character!
Brilliant designs have a simplicity and elegance of form, yet capture the essence of each cat in the midst of its particular action - lounging, stretching, mouse hunting, sleeping, lapping milk, or just being a cat.
5.0 out of 5 stars Cutest cats ever
Super great instructions for making the cutest knitted cats. Stories are adorable
5.0 out of 5 stars Really lovely book for any cat-loving knitters! Thoroughly enjoying it.
Such a lovely book - I'd recommend wholeheartedly, particularly if you need a gift for a knitter (at any level) who loves cats. Many different cats to knit, each in different postures, and many photo examples of each cat in different color schemes. I got this recently so haven't knit the cats yet, but, flipping through the patterns, there is a good balance of different difficulty levels and scale of project (some are smaller cats that you could knit up quite quickly) - Could see this being a great book for any cat-loving knitter, even for newer knitters. Also have to mention that the book itself is clearly lovingly done - A sweet story for each cat, and a running Victorian theme (complete with nice illustrations) throughout.
4.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, could use clearer photos
This is a clever book of adorable knitting patterns. The patterns are clearly written and straightforward to follow. The “Victorian” theme makes for a lovely cover, although the cats on their own are classic and timeless. My only criticism is of the book design: the project photos are limited and reproduced quite small, not one is printed on the page larger than a half-page. I handed the book to a friend who paged well into it before even finding a photo of a knitted cat project, to understand what the book was for. Some clear, large, full-page project photos would be helpful to be able to see the details of the knitting up close, and help the visual learners among us interpret the patterns. The window cat, for example, offers directions to make “paws” but it’s difficult to make out any paws in the photos, leaving it a guess about how to join or position them. Sharp, well-lit photos would be invaluable for showing the shaping and finishing of the patterns.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great cat patterns.
Amazing book! I want to knit all the patterns but will likely only make one.
5.0 out of 5 stars I know I’m going to love it
I just bought this book, but the instructions look very clear and easy to understand. I love the fact that the cats are posed and have already picked out the first two that I’ll be making. I’m so sure I’m going to love these patterns that I went back and bought Ms. Kellner’s previously published Wild and Woolly Knitted Animals so I can find other animals to make. An excellent resource for anyone wanting to make knitted cats.
5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful book in perfect condition
This book is a delight to read. I’m not even sure when I’ll knit up a cat or two but the stories that go with each pattern really have a Victorian feel to them which is so much fun.
Super cute!
(function() { P.when('cr-A', 'ready').execute(function(A) { if(typeof A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel === 'function') { A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel('review_text_read_more', 'Read more of this review', 'Read less of this review'); } }); })(); .review-text-read-more-expander:focus-visible { outline: 2px solid #2162a1; outline-offset: 2px; border-radius: 5px; } This book is adorable from cover to cover! The quality of the book itself is excellent with a well made cover and good paper. The contents live up to the cover with it's wonderful themed graphics, which continue throughout. The designs are very cute, and they look like actual cats and the poses they love to take. (This cannot be said for all knitted cat books.) I'll update once I knit more of the cats, but right now the patterns look well written and easy to follow!
Lovely book with lots of pictures, stories and options.
It is so hard to choose which one to start with, there are 20 options! The instructions look clear and easy to follow with stitch counts at the end of rows so you can check and adjust if necessary. I suspect there will be more than one housecat in my life as soon as I can decide on one to start.
Perfect kitties
I want to knit them all! The patterns are interesting yet not too difficult, the assembly instuctions are comprehensive and variety of cats and kitties is wonderful.
