My son had been asking almost daily about learning multiplication so he could be one of the first in his class to learn it. So when I let him open the package containing this workbook he was overjoyed. It is so nice to see a child so excited about education and I'm glad you provide quality materials to make that happen. My daughter is going in to 2nd grade this year and I got this book as a warm up for the summer break. The instructions are clear, the different color coded sections are clear and most of all the work is interesting and fun! The lessons are challenging enough that she is learning without being so difficult that she feels like it's too much work. --Amazon

He isn't as fast of a learner as some other kids but these activities are colorful and challenging without being super hard. Joan Hoffman, M.A., is the author and co-author of hundreds popular storybooks and workbooks for children. Among the titles are Peter’s Dream, I Don’t Like Peas, and The New Bike (the latter two published under the pen name Marie Vinje), the Get Ready for Preschool, Kindergarten, and First Grade workbook trio, along with the entire Get Ready, Little Thinker, I Know It!, Try-n-Spy, and Little Busy Book workbook series.
She is also co-founder, along with her late husband James Hoffman, Ph.D., of School Zone Publishing. Visionary in business, she has long looked at the world through a child’s eyes, infusing her stories and lessons with joy and relatability.
As a mother of 4 back in the ‘70s, like moms the world over throughout history, she wanted what was best for her children. And she knew that teachers didn’t have the time to give her kids everything they needed. As an elementary school teacher, Hoffman worked hard to give her students what they needed to learn. And parents would ask her what they could do to help. That’s why she started School Zone—to help give children every possible chance to reach their potential.
She brought retail experience gleaned from previously founding and managing two regional educational book and supply stores for teachers and parents. Her husband lent his blended talents of educator and entrepreneur. A professor of education who also had first-hand experience as an elementary teacher, he was involved in teacher education programs at several colleges and had served at the helm of a company that published classroom materials.
Combining rock-solid editorial judgment and creative instincts with a thorough understanding of early education, Joan Hoffman was an exemplary proponent of design thinking long before it became a conceptual label. I have the PreK, Kinder, 1st grade, 2nd grade, and 3rd grade volumes of this book. I do see how they are all very similar but adds a little bit more information in each advancing grade level. I do think that a student needs to have a parent or other adult guide them through this because what is being asked isn't always understood by the student independently. I set my children up with the instructions per page and go through one as an example and it's easy to go from there independently. Overall, I am a huge fan of these as a guided simple curriculum as a teacher and a homeschooling mom.

This second-grade workbook is really helpful for my kids aged 8. It has 320 pages full of fun and educational activities that cover a lot of subjects. The only thing is that some pages are a bit repetitive.

Would recommend for homeschooling!
Using for homeschooling. This book covers a lot of the grade two curriculum in Canada. It is a colourful book which makes the exercises fun to do for children. I’d say it’s a moderately challenging book for a grade one student. Lots of material covered in it from clocks and math, to weather and maps and a few science experiments. Loads of reading comprehension and tally charts as well. Good supplemental book!

Great book
This book is colourful, interesting, challenging and most important - kids love it! We homeschool our 3 kids and they all love books of BIG. Our daughter especially loved this one and was spending days in intensive study, without me having to remind her that it is time for her to learn.
