5.0 out of 5 stars it's easy to digest

T.M. · October 19, 2017

I stumbled across this (or, really, algorithm recommendation) this summer, sadly after I finished my first grad degree. Now on my second grad degree, one of my professors assigned us this book. If you're not a business analytics, accountant, or hard core MBA but need to understand the "basics plus" of finance, then you should read this book. It's written for us normal people, it's easy to digest, and even has exercises in the back you can work through. Paired with some online classes like Lynda.com (I'm not paid, I just like to round out my learning with some "lectures" vice only reading) you should be able to understand what finance people are talking about as it relates to your business.

4.0 out of 5 stars Useful text for high-level analysis

T.W.J. · December 9, 2012

A budding entrepreneur needs some knowledge of business finance and operations. This text constitutes a short course on Finance an Accounting Principles. "Financial Intelligence for Entrepreneurs" provides an insightful overview into the meanings of financial numbers while not really delving into the depths of accounting required for a complete analysis. It is useful - especially from a strategic perspective, and it is easy to assimilate. I was able to get through about 80% of the text in a weekend. The last one-third of the text consists of a "Toolbox" of spreadsheet examples and methods to apply in analyzing your own company - or potential investments. I underlined and highlighted extensively and expect to re-read parts until the ideas are mastered.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Primer for Finance

B. · May 5, 2013

I am not an entrepreneur, but I work for a very small start-up with increasing business responsibilities from marketing to finance, which is out of my area of expertise (life science). This book is really great in helping an individual develop a solid foundation for understanding and applying the financial knowledge within this book. The author's writing style is engaging and the exercises at the end of the book were useful. Overall, pleased with the book!

5.0 out of 5 stars I hate accounting but I loved this book

A.C. · July 28, 2020

I’ve never been good at accounting, and my business has run off of very limited accounting practices of just know how much money I had and how much I was losing or making over a 1 month period. But now I have a much greater understanding of what’s going on in my business and you can too. This book takes a day to read.

We often take financial principles for granted, and assume that everyone working in an organization would be well aware of these. However, it really often is not the case. This book lays out the fundamental principles of reading financial statements and understanding the basics. The message of the book is clear: finance isn't a science, but an art; and knowing every assumption behind the numbers will make you realize what is actually going on

The best book that I've found on finance for business. Highly digestible and not dry in the least.

R.S.W. · August 27, 2016

I expected this book to put me to sleep. However, I found that the information was incredibly easy to digest. The authors do an absolutely amazing job turning what could easily be one of the dryest subjects into a pleasant read packed with vital information for any business owner. Highly recommended.

Slightly disappointing

D.F. · August 7, 2016

I am not a "finance guy", however was still left a bit disappointed by the little insights I gained from this book.I was missing more practical "hacks" and tricks on how to set up finance in a startup in the real world.
