"...an art lover's dream come true--a collection of nearly 2,000 images that includes every painting and fresco on display in the Uffizi, the Galleria Palatina of the Pitti Palace, the Accademia and the Duomo, and works from 28 additional museums and churches....It's fascinating to see these treasures of the Western world collected in one volume, with page after page of magnificence, including the works of Uccello, da Vinci, Correggio, Titian, Michelangelo and more. You won't have a better tour unless you visit the city itself--and even then, reading this book first would be worthwhile."―BookPage

I think this is the most incredible value I have ever received. I have been searching for a book like this for years. I am an avid lover of Italian Renaissance Paintings, Frescoes, and Art. This book is worth 4 times more than I paid for it.Gratefully, I found this book Which is so amazing and beautiful.I can tell it was put together by someone who also has a great passion for Italian art. I also have the Louvre and The Vatican by Anja Grebe, she and Ross King have done an amazing job with this book. This book also comes in a sturdy box with the same Botticelli Venus picture on it.If you love Italian Art, you should not be without this book.

This is a beautiful book however the quality of the assembly of the book leaves a little to be desired.(Glue issues). The Text is very interesting and the illustrations although small in some instances are excellent. I would recommend this book to anyone with only the slightest interest in art.

This book is a beauty to look at and handle, and the box it comes in will keep it safe while still displaying the great cover art. We bought this after a trip to Florence and get to enjoy the art we saw and even more that we missed.

Florence art works beautifully presented

A.C. · October 31, 2024

Wow, this is an amazing book, representing works in all the major galleries of Florence. It is a serious and weighty collection of magnificent paintings and accompanying texts. Beautifully assembled, and even though some of the pictures are a little small this is more than compensated for by the larger (some 2 page) illustrations. Purchased as a gift for an art loving couple who are visiting Florence for Christmas. This will be an early present for them, and I'm sure they will love it.

Excellent overview

D.c. · April 22, 2023

This book is excellent for the art lover. Its scope is huge and very specific. Paintings and frescos. Florence. 1250-1743. So don’t complain about the dearth of sculpture; if sculpture is in the book, it’s there to illustrate a further detail. The book itself is very well printed and bound; the case, to protect the spine, is also well-made. A corner of mine was very slightly damaged in shipping but that is not germane to its task of supporting the book when closed and standing on a shelf. No skin off my nose.Ross King knows his onions (had to say it!) and the text is interesting and informative, if somewhat limited. I would peg this book for the already reasonably well-informed reader that is looking for a place to start new areas of interest. By this I mean that there isn’t a chapter devoted to, for example, Botticelli’s Spring or the Birth of Venus: one can find whole books on this specific topic. No, the book takes one to new areas and hopefully new artists and works that one hasn’t already seen that are related.A number of other reviewers have taken exception to the ‘thumbnails’ of many of the details. Well, yes and no. The sheer volume of the paintings and frescos in Florence under the time described by this book could fill endless enormous volumes. The thumbnails show the reader what it is and give enough information in the description to find it online, where one can enlarge it.Really, the only niggle from me is that the indexes are not great. I tried to find (Paolo) Uccello’s painting of the Battle of San Romano. I couldn’t find the painter but found the painting. On a further search, I found the painter under ‘P’ for Paolo. Hmm. Why this painter was under his first (not particularly well-known) first name, instead of his (well-known) surname, I don’t understand. A mistake? Probably. Also, it is the nature of the beast that certain paintings might have multiple titles, which could make it problematic to find a specific painting. One example: Gozzoli’s Journey of the Magi is listed as Procession of the Magi, a title I’ve not seen used but, god only knows, I don’t know everything! But it’s not worth taking off a star. Ok, I’ll have to work a bit harder; big deal.Anyway, the book is huge, comprehensive, and beautiful. I can’t wait to get really stuck in!

Maravilhosa Obra

O livro mais lindo que eu já compre! Bem acabado, é riquíssimo em detalhes e a capa dura é perfeita.Atendeu a todas as minhas expectativas de admiradora de arte renascentista.
