These low-sodium but flavor-packed 115 recipes plus daily meal plans will improve cardiac health without sacrificing taste. A lack of salt often means that food tastes ho-hum, which can ruin your appetite and adversely affect your quality of life. Yet the reality is that sodium levels in packaged and processed foods--such as ketchup, canned broths, and soups, to name just a few--are shockingly high. To stick with a low-sodium diet long-term you want to savor the food you're eating (so important!), which means finding new ways to replace the flavors that salt naturally highlights.

Author Lara Ferroni, who adheres to a low-sodium diet herself, has spent years creating naturally flavorful recipes everyone will love. In this book, you will find 115 recipes for homemade condiments, spice blends, dressings, cheeses, breads, prepared meats, and other foods. In addition, she offers daily meal plans--breakfast, lunch, dinner, and even dessert!--which contain less than a total of 2,000 mg of sodium, typically the daily amount allowed on a low-sodium diet. Ferroni, who is also a food photographer, has filled the book with enticing photos and shares her experiences of maintaining (and making peace with) a low-sodium diet. There is no need to feel deprived on a low-sodium diet. These recipes will help you love the food you eat while at the same time feel good about taking care of your health.

5.0 out of 5 stars Glad I bought it.

After a Meniere's diagnosis, I purchased a few lower-sodium cookbooks. I keep returning to this one, partly because it's so visually appealing. It's filled with beautiful and appetizing color photos, and the fonts are charming and easy-to-read. The pages are smooth, heavyweight paper. There are recipes for both contemporary and traditional palates (homemade harissa...and a delicious no-soup tuna noodle casserole) and the ingredients are all healthy. The author thoughtfully includes very practical advice on the kitchen tools and pantry supplies needed for successful low sodium cooking. It's an appealing, helpful and well organized cookbook.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing flavors + Staple Recipes

I love this cookbook even though I don't "need" a low sodium diet. It has a great mix of staple recipes (biscuits, pie dough, one pot chicken) and more adventurous and unique recipes. The book makes it easy to tag in to find a sauce for a dish already in your repertoire or to plan a whole meal. The photos are beautiful and give you a great idea of what your finished product will actually look like.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed

K.C.R. · March 22, 2021

I just received this book and was very disappointed the nutritional information was not included. It does list the total amount of sodium per recipe and the sodium per serving but fails, on most recipes, to indicate what a serving size is.

2.0 out of 5 stars Can't recommend.

R.H.S. · June 19, 2021

Disappointed. I haven't by any means tried all of the recipes in this book, but I haven't found any that I straight up like. A few were actually so bad as to be inedible. Most just turn out bland food.I find it better to follow a regular recipe and just eliminate the salt.
