I have been following Kate O'Donnell for years. I have read all her books and have taken online Ayurveda cooking classes from her. This is her Opus Magnum, her most magnificent work. I cannot recommend highly enough. I wish I had this book when I was a young woman, but am delighted to have it in my wisdom years!

If you are seeking an intro to Ayurveda then this will help. I didn’t feel there was anything new here regarding women’s health.

My understanding of Ayurveda is that everything can be medicine. If a person needs glasses would we keep them from wearing them? I certainly did not expect the book to actively discuss hormone options for peri/menopause but it reads as disparaging to them. I was hoping for a more integrated and balanced approach. Especially since the author speaks of the lack of info in the texts…women didn’t often live for many years past these phases of life. Women do not need to suffer and often alternative medicine alone is not enough. And this leads women to feel they have failed if Ayurveda alone does not help them.I also found these sections to lean heavily into the narrative of the slowing down individual during this time, but no longer worrrying about reproduction and family myself and many of my friends are more driven and passionate about life work than ever.I have loved all of Kate’s other books but for me this was a disappointing purchase.

The book I wish I'd been gifted in my youth

Kate O'Donnell has surpassed all expectations with this vital and (in my humble opinion) most comprehensive guide for women.On a personal note, I was moved to tears reading the section on 'Navigating Principles', which beautifully and succinctly takes you through life stages covering the topics of Money, Family, Desire, and Dharma. On reflection, having muddled through the way I have, I wish I'd had this book sooner to provide the guidance and support that was always missing. Yet on some level, it turns out that my innate feelings weren't too far from the guidance given in this soul-nurturing blessing. I feel each stage would have felt more fulfilled had I of felt more confident that I was living more in harmony with the natural world , and not felt like the odd one out due to choosing and having a very different perspective and life to those around me. The world I grew up in, and indeed the world we live in is not geared to support human life as much as it is to support economic growth, progress and power. It very much misses the fundamental point and purpose of what it is to be human. So growing at each stage was very challenging.I feel 'Everyday Ayurveda for Women's Health' is the prize at the later stages of a long and extremely bumpy ride.I cannot recommend this book enough to women of all ages, those entering puberty, those preparing for a family, those navigating perimenopause and those going through menopause, and post menopause.Packed with information that covers every aspect of life, including self care, life stages, diet and exercise/movement, breath work and so much more, this book is the gift that I just know will be passed down through generations of women. I'm already looking to purchase further copies for my daughters and girlfriends!This book, the practice of ayurveda, is a blessing. I couldn't think of a better practice, a better lifestyle to nurture, support, nourish and encourage women through life.It certainly is my new best friend.
