5.0 out of 5 stars Mitch Rapp is alive and well, and in good hands
CAPTURE OR KILL by Don BentleyIt’s a literary conundrum… breath easy as the Mitch Rapp series is alive and well, in good hands, or hold your breath and buckle in, as you’re in for a wild ride. CAPTURE OR KILL is Don Bentley’s first installment in the Mitch Rapp series and our beloved protagonist is back. In so many ways, it feels like the operative we’ve come to love and admire. Bentley did his homework, and it shows as he integrates a new story into a fitting space in the saga. Old favorites are back—Stan Hurley and Mike Nash—and it’s a joy to see them again. Bentley touches upon events from the recent past for that point in the timeline with deft aplomb. There are moments when it truly feels like Vince Flynn was behind the keyboard. At the same time, Don Bentley brings his own skill and experience to the saga which is welcomed. Bentley adeptly wove his knowledge and rich military experience into a critical subplot that more accurately grounded the combat operations that were occurring in 2011 Afghanistan, giving CAPTURE OR KILL a visceral and appreciated authenticity. As for the events in Abbottabad leading up to the raid that killed Osama bin Laden on 2 May 2011, it’s a creative twist on that audacious effort, suitably plausible. Well done.As for the legions of diehard Rapp Ambassadors and Enthusiasts, but your fears aside and rest easy. Mitch Rapp is in good hands. CAPTURE OR KILL is not to be missed. Can’t wait for what’s next.
4.0 out of 5 stars All In for Rapp but ...
The term "having said that" Is a recent development in all kinds of writing and speaking today, whether it be television spokespeople or in Articles et cetera. For this novel, to let that phrase fly, took me out of the moment every time the editor left it there: It was annoying, unnecessary, and distracting. And too; typos. Oops.
5.0 out of 5 stars It’s 02:00 so I Suppose I Liked It
Intrigue and action abound, just as expected. Every sentence keeping your attention. Really liked the addition of the personal attachment the characters displayed as the Team carried out their missions. Great characters!
5.0 out of 5 stars Bentley Gives Flynn’s Rapp Series a Shot of Retro Adrenaline
In “Capture or Kill,” Bentley takes readers back to 2011, a decade into the War on Terror and a point when Vince Flynn’s literary career was at its zenith. The novel is centered around the real-life raid by U.S. Navy SEALs on Osama Bin Laden’s compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan on May 2, 2011.When I first heard about the premise for the story, I was curious about how Bentley would handle the narrative structure. Real-life events can be a tricky thing for an author to navigate around — especially an operation this specific. But Bentley — who has written four novels in his Matt Drake series and four Jack Ryan, Jr. novels in the Tom Clancy franchise since 2020 — is able to steer the plot effectively.Bentley’s military experience is present throughout “Capture or Kill.” He went to Ohio State on an ROTC scholarship and spent a decade in the Army as an Apache pilot after graduation.Bentley manages to strike a nice balance between the ballsy tradecraft Flynn’s loyal followers have come to love and the nitty-gritty details on military operations that epitomize some of the great novels in the genre. The overall effect is Mitch Rapp novel that is less shaken and more stirred.Bentley gives Flynn’s Rapp series a shot of retro adrenaline, and the narrative choice pays dividends for readers in the end.
5.0 out of 5 stars Don Bentley's Mitch Rapp
I have read every book Don Bentley has written, as well as all of the Vince Flynn books. I was looking forward to reading Mr. Bentley's latest Mitch Rapp adventure. He did not disappoint AT ALL!! It was a fabulous job. I especially enjoyed the section showcasing Rapp and the Ranger--the dialogue was so much fun to read. Toward the end of the book, this one sentence I thought was superb and gave me goosebumps. It was, "And death slid in." Wonderful, delicious, exhilarating! Keep going Don!!!PS I'm also looking forward to some more Drake as well!
4.0 out of 5 stars Different
I had been anticipating the release of this book for a long time. It was a good read, but I was disappointed that it went backwards in time and did not continue on from book 22. Hoping the next one will be better.
5.0 out of 5 stars a great Mitch Rapp adventure
Don Bentley has given us a very exciting and true to character tale. There is a cave rescue that may be one of the most realistic and exciting action scenes I have read. I truly hope Don Bentley gives us another !!
Great book
I continue to enjoy the story, and I think that the new author did a great job of continuing the Mitch Rapp tale. Well done Don Bentley
Always Good
Never fail to keep the interest, always build to a strong conclusion, with a good mix of story line and human interest.
okayish
Not the Mitch I knew!!Good effort though. Still can do better!!story also seemed bit forced!!too many jargons in the middle
Lost his grip
Same as with the other hero Scot Harvarth it seems the series is in a dead end. Mitch gets old like all of us and it can't go on forever. So why not go back in time to rejuvinate our beloved hero and to mingle a little bit with alternative history? The problem is: It doesn't work. After the botched ending of the war you kinda know that everything will be for nothing in the end, which makes the book a little stale. Also it's missing flow an depth in character. It's ok, but not as good as the others.
