5.0 out of 5 stars I love this book
I love this book! Food Wisdom for Women, by Donna P. Feldman, is written for postmenopausal women who want to be healthy, stay active, and live well. Donna provides abundant practical information, whether you are looking for general information or for ways to deal with a specific health concern. Donna clarifies the current state of research on various topics, and lets us know which claims are based on solid evidence. Even when dealing with complicated topics, Donna writes in an engaging, conversational style. I have laughed aloud several times while reading this book! I have also taken notes of things that I would like to add or change in my diet. Food Wisdom for Women will be on my bookshelf as a reference, to reread certain sections and to check out information about new concerns that may arise. I recommend this book as a personal purchase or as a gift for the women that you love.
5.0 out of 5 stars More than “just the facts” - A common sense approach to nutrition
This book tackles nutrition in an easily read and accessible format in Food Wisdom. She doesn’t dictate what you should, or should not be doing in your food and supplement choices. Her approach is to give you a wide swath of information while also underlining a a common sense approach to incorporating good nutrition habits into your life. The interactive charts also make this a good book to keep on hand. Highly recommended it!
5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect balance of essential information and common-sense approach for maintaining a healthy life style
If you have an active life, physically and otherwise, and want to continue to maintain that life style as you age, this is the book for you at any age, especially for those women in their forties and fifties. It is important to establish one's desired life style as you age, not after you are old and retired. This book is easy to read, common-sense based, and those "take away" comments at the end of each chapter are easy to remember. For those of us who are already mindful of daily nutritional intake and exercise, this book is a firm confirmation of what we are doing right.
4.0 out of 5 stars Useful for maturing women
I liked the casual style of the book. The topics were very helpful for me.
5.0 out of 5 stars How to be wiser and healthier no matter what your age
Practical tips for living healthier, no matter your age, but especially those of us who are now part of that “senior” demographic. Written in an engaging conversational style that keeps you reading. All advice is grounded in sound data, rather than myth, rumor or pop culture health fads. Healthy choices are much clearer, much easier, if you have a guide through the barrage of diet and supplement crazes. A good index makes it a terrific resource to look up information about how our bodies work physically and metabolically, or to find out why vitamin B12 comes in such large doses.
5.0 out of 5 stars Practical guidance for women’s health
Excellent book with blend of science-based information and common sense guidance from an experienced RD. Love that is written for women with a goal of maintaining and enhancing health with nutrition. It is refreshing to read about advice for health-seeking women, not just for weight loss or for those with established disease. Many if us want to age gracefully in spirit, mind, and body! Thanks Donna!
5.0 out of 5 stars you'll find useful, factual
Sometimes it's hard to sort through all the different approaches to health and nutrition. This book explains nutrition and food in a really practical easy-to-use approach so that it's simple to understand and implement. Gluten-free, lactose intolerance, vegetarian, vegan, whatever your eating requirements, you'll find useful, factual, non-trendy information here. I especially appreciated this approach at a stage of life where it's so important and applicable.
5.0 out of 5 stars I really enjoyed the conversational tone of the book
I really enjoyed the conversational tone of the book. And when discussing the many changes women experience as we age, Donna’s book struck a great balance between too much and not enough information.
