About this item:
Marcus Aurelius Antoninus was born to an upper-class Roman family in A.D. 121 and was later adopted by the future emperor Antoninus Pius, whom he succeeded in 161. His reign was marked by a successful campaign against Parthia, but was overshadowed in later years by plague, an abortive revolt in the eastern provinces, and the deaths of friends and family, including his co-emperor Lucius Verus. A student of philosophy from his earliest youth, he was especially influenced by the first-century Stoic thinker Epictetus. His later reputation rests on his Meditations, written during his later years and never meant for formal publication. He died in 180, while campaigning against the barbarian tribes on Rome’ s northern frontier.

5.0 out of 5 stars Embrace the strange translation and make it mean more to you .
This is my second copy of this exact book (there are others, written slightly differently. ) this is a book worth having. The translation may seem shallow or unintentional or lazy or any of the other words the reviewers left.I found it more thought provoking . It's easier to remember my quote over citing someone else's quote, while being precise. When I had to stop and think about the quotes I was able retain a bit more. Thinking about what word needs to be there. Give it a shot. I think you'd enjoy it more diving into it with the mindset of " I get to fill in the blanks" .

5.0 out of 5 stars A fantastic book for anyone interested in the thoughts of a great philosopher.
As someone who has been a voracious reader and lifetime learner for more than 7 decades my passions have ranged from the sciences to the esoteric, from the great ancient literature to the philosophic classics and beyond. My Interest in great minds has led me from the Greek philosophers Plato, and Aristotle to one of the most famous and enduring thinkers and philosophers in the history of our civilizations Marcus Aurelius. This is why when I saw this 208-page book while browsing on Bolo (Meditations by Marcus Aurelius) I decided to purchase it even though I had read this book more than 40 years ago. This book is organized into twelve parts dealing with a wide range of topics. In the past, I recall having some trouble understanding some of his commentary about life, death and so many other issues; however, I really enjoyed rereading the thoughts of this great thinker. If you love philosophy and ideas of great ancient masters this is a gook you might want to consider reading. I loved it.Rating: 5 Stars. Joseph J. Truncale (Author: Never trust a politician: A critical essay on politics and politicians).
4.0 out of 5 stars Seems Good
It's not a direct book from him as I thought but another person writing their thoughts and sharing his thoughts.

I purchased this book as a gift to my husband. He loves the book. It has very detailed decorations that make it nice to display on a shelf as well.
Interesante y deja una buena reflexión.
Es un libro que todos deberían leer
Awesome artistic version.
There are so many versions of Meditations. Reviews of which version to get is hard sometimes because the photos were not matching the book I was looking to order. I do own another version that is annotated which I do like to help expand on some of the thoughts but THIS version is what I was looking for. Simple. A bit more artistic. Hardcover. Each page is spread out and the thoughts are spaced out. This is a type of book that one can enjoy in bite sized snippets to ponder and this book showcases that. The pages are thin but it makes it feel artistic. I love the fact this was written nearly 2000 years ago. If you are looking for an artistic version, you too will be happy with this version like I am for a reasonable price.
Horrendous paper quality
Absolutely horrendous quality of pages, the appealing book cover and pages style is just a facade of a book poorly printed. I recommend people to get other editions instead.
I just love this book.
I read this book everyday, i just love it. It has lots of the lessons he (Marcus) has learned of his family members, mentors and teachers, it's just filled with really uplifting wise messages, life lessons and things to think about. Highly recommended.
A bedside must
Highly recommended as a bedside must , a medicine for a soul cure and search.
