The Kidde Carbon Monoxide Detector, Plug In Wall with 9-Volt Battery Backup, Digital LED Display uses electrochemical sensor technology to detect poisonous CO gas in your home and alert you by sounding an 85-decibel alarm. Setup is easy as the Kidde carbon monoxide alarm plugs into a standard, 120V AC power outlet in your home, while a 9-volt alkaline battery (included) works as a backup in the event of a power failure. When carbon monoxide is detected, the digital display shows the level of carbon monoxide the alarm is sensing and updates every 15 seconds. Peak Level Memory records the last time carbon monoxide was detected or when the unit was tested. This alarm can be mounted three ways: plug directly into AC receptacle, mount on tabletop using 8 foot power cord, or wall-mount. The digital readout continuously displays carbon monoxide levels from 30-999 parts per million. This unit has a loud, 85-decibel alarm that sounds when CO reaches dangerous levels. One of the features of this product is peak level memory, which means this unit will recall highest level of CO present since previous reset. Install at least one CO alarm on every floor and in sleeping areas. Make sure CO alarms are at least 15 feet away from cooking or heating appliances to prevent false alarms. Replace CO alarms every 5 to 7 years to benefit from the latest technology upgrades.

We bought this carbon monoxide monitor as we are renovating an older house and have aging appliances not yet replaced. The monitor arrived in a timely manner and it was easy to install the back up battery. After reading other reviews I checked the date on our unit and it was made just a few months ago. It came with good and easy to follow instructions.The plug and cord are neatly house at the back of the unit, so if you have a close electrical outlet you can just plug it in. If not, the cord unravels and you can plug it in further away from the appliances. (just don't have it too far away or it may not be as effective in the case of a CO leak).We have had the unit for a few weeks now and it has constantly measured "0" (parts per million - ppm). Because the unit doesn't alarm for readings below 35 ppm, there is a button you can press to check if there have been any lower-level readings detected. Again, for us, when we checked through this function it also always read "0". We finally asked ourselves......does this unit even work?!!Well we found a way to check it out, and indeed, the unit does work very well.My husband took the unit to the garage, and then drove our car into the garage, turned off the engine and shut the door down. He waited a minute or less and the unit indeed detected a small amount of CO (15ppm - see picture). Because it was under 35 ppm, the unit did not alarm, but at least we now know it really does work.I would never suggest you try to check your unit by running your car in a closed garage. We were just measuring the fumes from an engine that was switched off, just as if you came home, parked and turned off your car, got out and shut the garage door.We are very happy with how the Kiddie Nighthawk CO detector works and are very glad to have it in our home - great peace of mind from a great product that we wouldn't hesitate to recommend to others.

This unit works great... No issues... Requires 9 Volt battery even though it runs off of AC. If you do not install the 9 Volt battery, it will give a Battery Low beep until you add the battery (and it is loud and you cannot ignore it)... No issues, good backup. I would recommend these units as they seem to be of good high quality.

Kidde KN-COPP-3 Nighthawk Plug-In Carbon Monoxide Alarm with Battery Backup and Digital Display is a wonderful product. I had one in my new house when I brought it. But I decided to get another on a different floor just as a back up. The unit works perfectly well. There is one complaint that I have, when plugged into the outlet, it tends to come loose very easily. But since it comes with the 9V battery, I was not worried. I did get a few false alarms in the beginning but it has not been case for the past few months. Overall, I am very happy with the product. It does what is supposed to do. I had decided to buy the unit after doing very extensive review of the detectors and this one seems to get the best reviews. I would recommend this to anyone. Did not work
I have a boiler in one of the bed rooms so thought it was important to have a good alarm .put battery in plugged it in .Reading came up as "0".The next morning it did intermittent bleep I went to check it the battery was flat the plug was red hot ,fire hazard so I sent it back cost me £12.75 to send it to Spain !!!

They seem good, a couple were banged up from shipping but ...
They seem good, a couple were banged up from shipping but they still work. All of them were manufactured well over a year ago... so only time will tell if they still last ten years or not.
poor quality control.
Two of the 12 packages were missing the battery pack and the battery Holder. Also missing was the back cover....
