About this item:
The Hamilton Beach DrinkMaster Classic Chrome Drink Mixer masterfully creates smooth, delicious shakes and soda fountain drinks and is also great for frothing and foaming milk for coffee drinks. Includes 28 oz. stainless steel mixing cup.
Drop a dime into the jukebox, press F2 for Fats Domino's "Blueberry Hill," and dreamily drift back to the '50s, when bobbysoxers and guys with ducktails or wearing white bucks (never, ever both) idled away after-school hours at the local drugstore's soda fountain sipping chocolate malts that had been churned to a smooth, frothy consistency by a mixer exactly like this one. Hamilton Beach's drink mixers began appearing at soda fountains in 1911; this 14-1/2-inch-high, 70-watt model, in creamy green, recalls Elvis's first decade. But it's 21st-century, too, blending fruit smoothies and health drinks as well as milk shakes and malted milks. Also use it to mix puddings and beat eggs for omelets. Two speeds offer mixing flexibility, and the tilting head makes it easy to remove the spindle for cleaning. Its professional-style, stainless-steel cup holds 28 ounces and is dishwasher-safe. --Fred Brack

5.0 out of 5 stars Works well
I use this to make foam for my cappuccino every day. It works well. It adheres very well on the counter thanks to little suction cups. It has two speeds and it is easy to clean. It makes great milkshakes as well. Obviously, this is a stirrer so it won't crush ice or mash fruit, you will need a blender for this.It is a little loud (ok, a lot) but it does it's job so fast, you don't need to run for long. The price was good and it works great, so I recommend!!
5.0 out of 5 stars This is a home model so not real sturdy but works well for home use
I bought this to make homemade milkshakes for my husband. The only issue I have with it is the cup is not very secure. I feel I have to hold on to it when it is running so it won't come off the machine. I ordered another one, thinking it was just a problem with the first one, but they are all the same and I had to pay to return the new unused one to Bolo.
4.0 out of 5 stars Makes wonderful milk shakes (just make sure to avoid freezer burn)
This was a birthday gift for my husband who loves milkshakes on hot summer days. It was one of those 'unexpected gifts' that says 'Hey, I've been paying attention to what makes you happy. Enjoy!'And he does love it, too.My few complaints with the product are:**1. The way the cup 'locks' into position doesn't always hold when you're storing the thing - one quick jostle and you can have a metal cup fall on your head while you're trying to put it in a cabinet. Especially if you're short like me!2. It would be great if there was some sort of way to have the cord retract into the device's base (for both cabinet and counter tip storage) OR to have those little things like you find on a vacuum cleaner to wrap up the thing. There's nothing more annoying having a cord bop you in the face right after the cup falls on your head as your putting it in a cabinet - or to plug it in thinking you've plugged in the can opener beside it and yelling at the can opener because it's not working.3. Maybe there could be a sleeve around the metal cup to prevent 'freezer burned phalanges' (sort of how a certain major coffee chain puts sleeves on their cups to prevent burns)? After all, ice cream is cold -- icy even. And putting it into a metal cup and spinning it with cold milk while holding that metal cup can be very uncomfortable. Painful, in fact. So cold the fingers might fail the hand they're attached to.And trust me there's nothing like hippity-hopping and praying for the ice cream and milk to hurry the H3LL up and become a milkshake. No. Wait. There is something worse - having your hand get so cold after doing your interpretive 'it looks like a pee-pee dance'! Dropping the metal cup because your hand is so cold you cannot tell if you're actually gripping the darn thing. Then it falls. On the counter. On the floor. On your clothes. And on your favorite pair of designer leather sandals...BUT if YOU, the consumer reading this, are looking for a great milk shake maker and you can bypass all those pitfalls (perhaps you might want to try putting a small hand towel around the cup like we did after a couple of mishaps -- and maybe use a tie wrap to deal with the cord and find a lower cabinet to store the thing) the Hamilton Beach 730 Classic milk shake maker is awesome!I HIGHLY recommend it for making middle-of-the-summer milk shakes!**and to the people at Hamilton Beach - hopefully you've got a social media intern who reads reviews because those are legitimate concerns that could easily be addressed. And when you make those little changes you'll be revolutionizing your own product. Throngs of milk shake makers will applaud.
5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for kids/teens
My 17 yr old autistic son loves milkshakes. I’ve always had to make them for him because our vitamix is too difficult for him to operate. We bought him this for Christmas and it’s been his favorite present this year. It’s functional and easy to use with just one switch. The metal cup has volume lines so he knows just how much ice cream and milk to add. After some instructions, he learned how to put the cup securely in place and now he can make his own milkshake for desert. Putting in and removing the removable plastic whisking blade can be difficult at times but if you use both hands, one to hold the device and the other to insert/remove the blade, you can do it. Just needs a little extra elbow grease. This has been a real confidence booster for my son’s self reliance.
5.0 out of 5 stars It does its intended purpose well
The key to making milkshakes with this is to use ice cream that has softened. It will not mix ice cream straight out of the freezer. Adding enough milk also helps. It won't break up ice for a frozen drink or break up candy for a "Blizzard." You would need a blender for that. I like the texture it makes. It looks cool on my counter top and one day it will to my man cave.
1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible at making milkshakes
I bought this drink mixer to make milkshakes and it is terrible at making milkshakes. There are a number of reasons why this product is horrible:1) The biggest problem is that this mixer doesn't mix well. No matter how much milk I put in the shake, the mixing wand just spins at top speed while the ice cream sits around the edges of the cup. Even when I move the mixing wand around the edges of the cup, the ice cream just sits there. In order to get the ice cream to mix correctly, I have to fully remove the cup from the mixer, move the ice cream around the cup with a spoon, and then return the cup to the mixer over and over again. This mixer has one job: to mix ice cream, and it fails completely at this task.2) The mixer head rotates backwards to allow you to attach and remove the cup. However, when the head is rotated backwards it doesn't lock in place. This means that you need a 3rd hand to hold the mixing head up while you carefully remove the cup and mixing wand from the mixer. This situation is hugely inconvenience and usually causes a mess to be made all over the counter.3) The power cord is too short. It's about 2 feet long.4) The mixer is not weighted well, causing the machine to be too top heavy when a cup is attached. The mixer needs more weight in the bottom of the machine so that it's not so prone to tipping.5) The Hamilton Beach label was not applied correctly to the mixer. It's got wrinkles and bubbles under the label. The label was also partway removed from the mixer when I first opened the box it came in.Overall, the build quality of this mixer is well below what I was expecting. I would never recommend this mixer to anyone under any circumstances. This Hamilton Beach mixer is absolutely terrible at mixing anything except two liquids. I am going to donate this thing to Goodwill and go back to using an immersion blender to make my milkshakes.

Great machine!
A really nice appliance and fun to use! Affordable, stylish ( nostalgic ) and quality made. A great investment.
Classic drink aster
