5.0 out of 5 stars A collection of great games worth getting your hands on.
When I first heard that Mega Man X was going to get a new collection, but that this time it would include X7 and X8, I jumped for joy. Mostly for X8, mind you, because X7 is just the worst of the worst in the whole Mega Man X series. I just never finished it and hope to do so this time around.X 1 through 3 have their regular 16-bit graphics, AWESOME music, and you can alter the filters and screen sizes to your liking. I personally prefer it wide screen, but I am missing out on some sweet wallpapers that surround the edges of the screen if you should choose to play it at its original screen ratio. It looks pretty sweet with the filters too; makes you feel like your's playing the original game cartridges. For X3, however, the prior Mega Man X Collection (which was on the Gamecube/PS2 era, had the Saturn version of X3, which included a sweet intro video and new music, although admittedly, most of the original music is better. There is a small downside, hardly noticeable for those who played the original MMX games on SNES, and is a small input lag. I am guessing Capcom wanted to keep the experience as close to the original as possible. From X4 through 6, that input lag is a thing of the past, the 32-bit graphics play beautifully on the screen, and with the new filters, you can choose to make the game look classic, or a little newer. For some reason I don't understand, the sound effects on this version of the collection are very crisp, something that sounded murky in the original PS and Saturn versions.I have only glanced at X7 and X8 for the time being, and do not expect much in terms of graphical improvement. X7 particularly. It's like that game was just ported there for nostalgia reasons, maybe, but it is clear that even Capcom want nothing more to do with that game. X8, on the other hand, has more detailed textures and brighter colors. Other than that, it feels like the same game. Finally, one of my biggest griefs with this game collection is that, once again, Capcom decided to split the physical version into half physical, half digital. Switch cartridges aren't that small, to my knowledge, and the GBs the collection takes doesn't even add to 16 GBs, so I wonder why do they choose to split games like this. That aside, I recommend this game to anyone looking for fast-paced action and a good challenge. ... Oh, and before I forget, although I have not used Rookie Hunter mode for any of the games, it is clear this option will allow for newcomers to enjoy their Mega Man X experience without the frustrations of constant failures.
5.0 out of 5 stars DIFFICULT but GREAT games
These games have the toughest boss battles it's crazy the levels themselves are not too bad for the most part but those bosses my goodness! Once you get more power ups and upgrades the games become much more playable but they are still very fun.As many have stated the switch version only comes with one cartridge for games 1 through 4. Games 5 through 8 are a download it comes with a download code when purchasing new unopened only. While I agree that is a bummer I still wanted the nintendo version and I'm guessing alot of other people did too because as much as its getting negative criticism for that it is the version with the most Bolo reviews. Anyway to each there own but im so excited to be seeing these complations on newer systems and mega man 11 coming out soon. I like being able to play these games on the go if I choose to in addition to the tv so I'm glad a chose the switch version. As for the the additional slowdown in games 1 through 3 on switch version I honestly haven't noticed any in mega man x1 anyway maybe its present in 2 and 3 more than one haven't played them all yet just one and some of others like x4 and x7, if I notice it I'll edit this review but untill then I just don't see it. Any way great games for the most part though I'm not sure what to think about x7 it's too different 3d gameplay does not exactly work for classic megaman games, 3d rendered with 2d game play or 2.5 d whatever you want to call it is great though megaman x8 is like that and the upcoming mega man 11 will be as well.
5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome collection!
I have been a Mega Man fan for as long as I can remember playing video games, and that continued over to the X games when I was a teenager. To have all 8 games available at my fingertips at any time, and especially being able to take them on the go, is something that the child-me would not have been able to believe. There are some games in the series that have stood the test of time better than others (X and X4 remain my favorites, whereas X7 could be viewed as a miss-step for the series), but the fact that you can have all of the games available at once, and for an affordable price, makes the package more than worth the investment. The ability to play on Rookie Hunter mode for some games definitely makes it easier for a now grown-up gamer to get back into these games that used to take weeks of practice to master. The ability to save more frequently is likewise much appreciated (I have a lot more taking up my time than I did when I was 10!).Overall, this is a great way to re-experience some classic (and not-so-classic) games, and would also be a great way to introduce someone new to the series to something a little more different than the standard Mega Man games.
4.0 out of 5 stars Love this collection
My only gripe is some of the games have limited save files. Other wise they seem to be good ports.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great Mega Man X collection
This physical version does come with a physical game cartridge and a digital code for the second part of the collection. Would buy again.
