5.0 out of 5 stars This thing is Awesome!! Instant relief from dry air, Just Buy It
If you made it this far just buy it. Probably the least expensive humidifier/vaporizer on Bolo and it works the best. I should have known, Vicks has been around a long time.I went through the cool mist humidifiers with fancy remotes, phone apps, ALL were useless, they could not even raise the humidity in a small bedroom. This is as simple and functional as it gets. I filled the tank with tap water, a pinch of salt and plugged it in, within 15 seconds it was putting out a soothing warm mist. Took my living room from 32% humidity to 58% in about 20 minutes. After a few hours my skin is not as dry and nose and throat are not dry anymore.Personally, I love the simplicity just fill the tank and plug it in. There are NO timers, settings, fancy lighting, remote controls, buttons or phone apps. I mean seriously, does a vaporizer need a friggn phone app. lolWorth every penny can not believe you can get this thing shipped to your door in one day for under 20 dollars.EDIT: By the way, the black flakes in the tank some people are complaining of are there as a feature. It is actually the minerals from the water you add. The heater boils them and deposits them into the tank so they do not blow into the air with the mist. This prevents white dust or mineral deposits like many of the cool mist humidifiers cause. Great feature
5.0 out of 5 stars Great product
Bought this as a resale and couldn’t be happier! This is great for money and value. I looked for this brand because I had one of these models when I was a kid and remember my grandma always used this specific brand stating they last. The steam comes out forcefully and strong so far but the unit seems to get very hot to the touch so be careful if you have young or older people. It has been easy to watch, clean and fill. The design is great for all of that and to keep it from leaking. You should only have to fill once a day if you’re using a smaller space like a bedroom or dorm.. I would recommend using this it functions better than most of the other ones I have seen.
5.0 out of 5 stars Works great.
This is for a smaller room and works great in a bathroom or small bedroom. I bought this for my cat. Yes, I know, nuts, but he has a lot of breathing problems. My vet recommended doing this. I got the humidifier yesterday and after 2 one hour treatments he is breathing a lot better and the sneezing is cut in half. I hear it's good for kids to.
4.0 out of 5 stars Nice basic unit, but unusable with AFCI
I love that this is just a basic, no frills humidifier. Unfortunately, after 45 minutes it tripped my AFCI (arc fault circuit interrupter) breaker. So I am unable to use this.
5.0 out of 5 stars Works great
I've been using this since I purchased it. Keep it in my bedroom and use it pretty much 24/7. Hard to keep humidity up in my apartment, but it has helped a lot. No problems with it. Works great. Takes a bit more than just a pinch of salt to get it steaming, but I've pretty much figured out how much salt to use. Easy to clean.
3.0 out of 5 stars Beats all alternatives.
Swamp type humidifiers never heat the water and are prone to dumping bacteria and mold into the air. Plus, the filter/wick tend to be expensive and need replacement fairly often.Ultrasonic humidifiers are also prone to dumping bacteria and mold into the air. But they're far worse because they dump all water minerals into the air. A hard working ultrasonic humidifier will coat the entire room, if not the whole house, with a powdery layer of minerals everywhere. This is especially not good for any electronics, let alone breathing in all that stuff. As bad as a swamp humidifier is, ultrasonics are even worse for both your electronics, and your lungs.Boiler type of humidifiers kill any and all bacteria and mold by boiling them. It also does not put any minerals into the air. But the process is rather energy intensive. So this humidifier tends to use a lot of electricity. It's also very noisy. And, of course, there is a small chance of getting burned by the hot mist, if you're extremely not careful. And then there is the matter of this particular type of humidifier relying on the amount of minerals in the water to conduct electricity. Thus, the rate of vaporization depends on the mineral content - the more minerals in the water, the faster it vaporizes. This is both good and bad. It's good that you can increase the rate by not rinsing out the reservoir. It's bad because the reservoir can run out within just a few hours. This is why I took a 5 gallon bucket and shaped a torus out of thick styrofoam to fit it. I ditched the reservoir and inserted this humidifier into the torus. Now it floats on top of the water in the bucket. Now I have a 5 gallon reservoir that will last many hours. I still need to add water - but only about once a day... maybe a bit more often on really dry days. It's still noisy and uses a lot of electricity. And it only lasts about one winter. So I buy a new one every year. The bucket and the stryofoam has lasted many years. The point being, I can now dump over 5 gallons of water into the air every day with minimal maintenance. And buying a new one of these humidifiers every year is roughly the equivalent of a new filter for a swamp humidifier - or less. Often much, much less. And the humidity is bacteria, virus, mold, and mineral free - just how I like the air I breathe. All while having to add nothing to the water. And I'm not having to dust my entire house every few days.I keep looking, but comparable hot steam systems seem to cost over $200 - sometimes WELL over $200. And their electricity costs are probably about the same. So this "redneck 5 gal. humidifier" I made only costs less than $20 per year (so far). Comparable systems would have to last over 10 years to justify their costs over this simple humidifier.
5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for me
This unit is just the right size to fill up in bathroom sink and carry for placement. I replaced a 25 year old Vicks vaporizer that finally ran it's course. The first night I ran it without salt, it did steam but not enough. Adding a little table salt did the trick.Note: pink Himalayan salt does not increase steam. I had to get table salt to get it to steam.
4.0 out of 5 stars Nice
This humidifier just arrived. I set it up, had to add some salt to get it to steam. Seems like a good product, easy to set up. Instructions sound like it will be easy to clean. Right away I wish it had an on/off switch. But I like the fact that you don’t have to use distilled water.
Great for hydration
The very best humidifier! If you want to feel like your in a sauna, you need a warm mist humidifier, and vicks is the best! Your plants will also love it!
