5.0 out of 5 stars Be Aware NOT Beware
I've waited two months to write this review. I usually go straight to the 1 star reviews to read all the concerns first. I spent a week arguing with myself if I wanted to experience severe headache, possible "cancer," a messed up menstrual cycle, blah blah. I did more research - all of these are signs you have high levels of the "bad" estrogen. Except for cancer - that I could not confirm with research and if anything, you probably are at a higher risk if you have a predisposition with genetics. I've had messed-up hormones for a while. I originally looked into this after being diagnosed with pre-menstrual dysphoric disorder. Been through countless IUI cycles and two rounds of IVF. I'm 32 and essentially premenopausal. I've had hormonal acne most of my adult life (face, shoulders, chest, arms, back). I also have endometriosis. I am "fit" and exercise regularly/eat for fuel not fun yet, still carry that dreaded lower belly fat that never seems to go away.Week One: I pre-medicated with Excedrin in the morning, Ibuprofen in the afternoon and Tylenol at dinner. I really wanted to give this a shot and still be able to work, not suffer. I experienced the headaches but they were manageable if I kept up on the alternating motrin/tylenol routine. I also discovered that two pills to start was too much. Start with ONE capsule! You will thank me. Had a slight increase in anxiety and mild chest discomfort but nothing I was super concerned about.Week Two: Headaches stopped, no longer needed meds. I even increased to two capsules. Urine was a bit darker - totally normal, don't panic. You are not dying. Energy started to increase and I am not kidding, the lower belly fat decreased slightly. Also - I noticed my neck smoothed out. This may sound strange but my thyroid has always been a tad larger without there being any dysfunction. It has made my neck look "lumpy" for most of my life. Apparently, a lot of the "bad" estrogen can get stored in the thyroid. Only negative - holy cow was I exhausted, so tired. Sleeping better but sooooo tired.Week Three: a week before the start of my cycle. Normally I am irritable, angry, have low frustration tolerance, and essentially feel like murdering anyone that say's hello to me. It was so much more manageable. Another bonus, the freaking arm acne and facial acne started to clear up - the week before my period. Unheard of! I also somehow gained some energy and was no longer tired all day long, actually started to feel kind of wonderful.Week Four: aunt flo came to town. No PMS. I did not experience any extra crazy bleeding or pain BUT I am literally always in pain from endometriosis so I am not a good judge in this area. Sleeping like a rock, acne almost gone.Next Month: everything is still going great. My mood is so much more balanced, my anxiety is less, my head feels clear, my belly fat is essentially falling off. I have energy, I'm not irritable. My frustration tolerance is actually neutral. The weight loss has subsided a bit toward the end of the month. No headaches, no painful cramping or periods, urine is normal, no chest pain, etc.My only concerns: 1) if I actually get pregnant after taking this I will burn down the fertility clinic. 2) I missed one day of taking it and had a massive increase in anxiety and irritability. Almost a panic attack. I see this as positive because I know it is actually helping me. If I ever do decide I want to come off of it, I will be cautious and taper off.Be AWARE, NOT beware! As with any medication, think of it as a messenger, it is giving your body a new message and that always has side effects whether you realize it or not. Use over-the-counter medicines to treat some of those. If it is unmanageable, don't force it. If you can make it through two weeks, it might just change your life.
5.0 out of 5 stars NO More Accutane Cuz of this Product! Thank God Almighty I'm free At Last!
I'm getting emotional when I think about how this product has profoundly changed my life in such a positive way!!! I wish I could give it 10 stars! Yes, it has worked just that damn good for me...I'll try my best not to be too long winded here, but I do want to express my sincere thanks to Nature's Way for creating such a wonderful product!!!All of my life I have suffered from acne. I mean from teen years, into adulthood (I'm in my late 30's) I have experienced a constant battle with my acne prone skin. Unless you have suffered from the self-esteem bashing effects of acne, you have absolutely no clue how bad it makes you feel about yourself when you look at your reflection in the mirror. I know that Accutane has gotten such a bad rap with people claiming that the drugs cause suicidal thoughts and all that stuff, but in all honesty, I sometimes felt like I wanted to die because of the acne ruining my complexion, thus killing my self esteem. Hence, I have been on several courses of Accutane and I am very thankful that with the exception of horribly dry lips, I never had any adverse reactions to it and was extremely thankful that it's still on the market.Though Accutane was a miracle drug for turning my acne prone face into the perfect blemish free skin, the sad part about the drug is that it is only a temporary fix in that it only stays in your system for a limited period of time before the acne will inevitably come back with a vengeance (well at least that's how it was for me). Well, this past spring, I guess the Accutane dissipated from my system after 2 years because I started having never ending acne outbreaks again and I went back to my dermatologist begging, pleading, and almost harassing her to put me back on Accutane; however, because of the many courses I have had, she was very reluctant to put me on another course so she wrote me prescriptions for all kinds of useless medications that she wanted me to try before she'd concede to prescribing me Accutane yet again. Therefore, I ended up wasting time and money on those meds because they never worked or they made my skin even worse. I even tried stuff off the tv (i.e. Proactive) or the internet (i.e. Gunilla of Sweden), but to no avail. Meanwhile, my face was beginning to look like a rocky mountain with bump after acne bump (+ the ugly scaring) popping up and piling up all over my face to once again ruin my wonderful Caramel colored skin that the Accutane had temporarily produced.Even though my Dr historically described my acne as persistently moderate to lightly severe, it was starting to get so bad that I'd have to go to the dermatologist every month or so to have acne surgery (at least that's what they called it on my insurance bill) so they could lance, extract/drain the knots I meant pimples. I got so desperate that I tried some crap called Estroblock that I got from this site and it made me sick. Luckily, someone else had an issue with the Estroblock and suggested DIM+plus for acne. Reading that person's review was the beginning of me experiencing my skin anew. The interesting thing is that I used to buy DIM Plus from Whole foods some years ago. I was taking it for fibroid issues and it really helped a lot. So much so, that I stopped taking the DIM Plus and I never equated it to clearing up my acne because the Accutane was still in my system while I was taking DIM plus so there was no correlation for me. Well, long story short, I have been taking the DIM plus (2 caps in the morning and 2 in the evening) and 8,000 IU's of vitamin A since June 10th and I have not, I REPEAT, I have not had any out of control acne outbreaks!!!! I can't believe it!!! Even when my cycle comes on (which is when the acne became worse), I had a tiny, barely noticeable pimple or two that went away (without any scaring) in less than a week; whereas before, my skin would erupt like a violent volcano with acne that I just could not control. I am still in disbelief that an over the counter product (i.e. Dim Plus) that is a fraction of the cost of Accutane and doesn't have any of the side effects and monthly hassles of getting approved for the prescriptions (those who have taken Accutane know exactly what I mean re: the pesky timed pregnancy tests and then the online quizzes that u betta score good on or else no Rx for you that month), actually works as good as the drugs. It's truly unbelievable!!! It really is.....My only regret is that I didn't know about Dim Plus acne fighting usage sooner. I could have saved myself a lot of money in terms of all the useless prescriptions I bought, costly chemicals peels I had to have to reduce the appearance of the acne scaring, the years and tears I cried from a ruined complexion, the expensive makeup I had to use to cover the blemishes/scars, the dry lips and ridiculous process I had to go through month after month to get the Accutane every 2 years or so, the time, gas, and energy spent going to the Dr's, etc. etc. All I know is that I am so thankful for this product and I will continue my double dosing for about 2 more months, while I enjoy people complimenting me on how great my skin looks and feels. I just didn't think this was possible for me without my addiction to Accutane. Just tonight, my man could not stop looking at me and praising how wonderful my skin looks. He just loves touching my bump-less face and admiring my healthy, glowing skin and that makes me feel good as a woman that strives to take good care of herself inside and out.If you suffer the same issue, try this product. If it doesn't work for you, then all you have lost is a few bucks which you might be able to get back due to Bolo's great A to Z satisfaction guarantee policy. They say no refund on supplements, but I have called Bolo's customer service and explained my dissatisfaction with a couple of supplements, and being the awesome business that it is, they gave me a refund despite what they may say online. If it does work, you too will be singing the same praises as I do as I thank God for Nature's Way creating DIM Plus!!!UPDATE 9.12.2015: WOW, I came here to order my routine 60 day supply and low and behold I see my review.... I can't believe it's been over 2 yrs since I went through that acne attack. Just reading it brought back bitter sweet memories for me that triggered tears of joy that I found this product. And YES!!! This product still works amazingly well for me! I no longer take vitamin A separately as I did when I initially wrote this review. And I don't need to take as much of the product anymore. Even though I do not like how they have changed the capsules from the green ones to the white ones and I don't like the fact this does have soy in it since I'm more conscious of the issues related to soy than I was 2yrs ago, I still can't see myself using any other DIM product cuz this one works extremely well for me! To resolve the capsule issue, I just take the contents out of the capsules, discard them, and I pour the contents into my mouth, and since I've cut out a lot of soy in my diet, hopefully the minimal amount in this product won't hurt. My acne is so under control that I could go several days (maybe even weeks, but I'm scared to try to go that long) without taking this and I still don't break out. At present, Im averaging an intake of about 10-14 capsules over 4 or 5 days a week. With the exception of about two or three inconsequential pimples a month, this routine works well for me.
Medicine
I love it must try
Works to improve Estrogen Metabolism
I have used other brands of DIM, trying to improve my Estrogen Metabolism. This one seems to work. My last hormone test showed my Estrogen metabolism was back to normal. I was taking the higher dose of 2 capsules morning and night - 4 capsules per day. Since my test results I have gone back to the standard dose of 2 capsules per day. I will be interested to see what my next test shows. I can recommend this brand!
