  • API MELAFIX Freshwater Fish Bacterial Infection Remedy soothes the transition from store to home by reducing the risk of your fish developing a disease. The fish you bought may already carry a disease. Disease is often difficult to detect, particularly in its early stages. Treat bacterial infections in your fish and reduce the risk of spreading illness to other fish with API MELAFIX Freshwater Fish Bacterial Infection Remedy. Bacterial diseases are caused mostly by dirty aquarium conditions and the addition of infected fish. Fish that are injured and have open wounds are especially susceptible, even in seemingly clean tanks. Bacterial infections, like fin and tail rot, eye cloud, pop eye, body slime and mouth fungus destroy tissue and other organs, and if left untreated, can cause death. API MELAFIX Freshwater Fish Bacterial Infection Remedy is an all-natural treatment that heals open wounds, treats bacterial infections and promotes re-growth of damaged fins and tissue, usually within a week. Just add 5 ml per 10 gallons of aquarium water. It will not adversely affect the biological filter, alter the pH or discolor the water. For effective treatment, dose infected fish daily for 7 days, and continue afterward if necessary. Dose new fish daily for 3 days. Remove activated carbon from filter before use, if possible. With API Aquarium products, it’s easy to keep a beautiful saltwater, freshwater or reef aquarium. For over 50 years, API has been creating innovative, research-driven solutions that make it easier to care for your fish and aquarium. API Aquarium Treatment Supplies are designed to work in conjunction with each other to provide best results to control algae, promote healthy bacterial growth and help control and cure fish diseases and conditions such as ich and fin rot. They work to provide a safe, hospitable environment for fish such as tropical community fish, cichlids, goldfish and more. With API, you can spend more time admiring your fish, and less time scrubbing your tank. Make sure to use all products as directed in order to ensure the best results.

I first bought this product on Bolo in March 2011, I have since bought 16oz once a year till 2013, and then I bought a 64oz, which I stored to long and went bad, but that is on me. I just bought another 16oz again for my 5th time in 2024. I love this stuff, it has saved so many fish of mine over the years. It is not a miracle cure, if a fish is to far gone, it won't save them. Its great for other fish, put in with new fish, little bit each week just to keep everyone healthy. I have NEVER had it ever harm a fish ever. Though, like with anything, I am sure that potential exists if not used as directed. I really cannot recommend this stuff more, it is the best fish product I have ever bought, it works, its safe 99% of the time, and it smells great, your tank will smell better. I cannot say enough good about this product. If you have fish, you should keep this in stock.

I did a lot of research based on symptoms I saw on my fish. After less than a week of daily use, my fish were back to their normal selves! It’s a clear liquid with a strong smell like what others describe. No complaints! Did the job. Hopefully I won’t need it again but if I do, there is more than enough left.

This medicine is a lifesaver to my fish. My tetras were dying left and right from sickness and I couldn't figure out what was going on until I researched their symptoms. When I did the research I got this medicine recommended to me. Thankfully it was, there's enough medication in one bottle to treat over 100 fish if I really needed to, and the bottle is well sealed so it doesn't leak and it's easy to give the correct dosage. Also it's also safe to use on invertebrates such as snails. The life improvement of my fish is definitely worth the money.

Works well but you should remove carbon when using.

I read reviews before repurchase in case a bad seller or something. I see reviews saying it killed my fish or beware and it’s only as good as the user. I have had close to 20 tanks going at once with all kinds of fish, plants and invertebrates, all kinds. This kills nothing if used properly and providing the right environment for the fish. This means fish get sick because of water quality, improper housing or introducing an infected item into the tank. So one of those are your first problem to correct. So back to introducing this medication into your tank, it will not stain anything or hurt any living thing in your tank. All tanks need a filter or air stone (even bettas/surface breathers) on tanks with lighter agitation Need To Add Oxygen To The Water! This stuff makes the water kind of thicker for lack of a better word. It’s like us walking uphill, adds stress to a sick fish if not given ample oxygen in the water. If you do not correct this, a sick fish will die. My fish will be less active when down to one filter and this stuff, I throw in an extra air stone and their back chasing each other again. Cloudy tanks...lack of proper filtration, too much meds?? Why happen in some tanks and not others? I add mine slowly, giving the fish time to adjust to something new. Another way to think of it, is if you have Cory Catfish in your tank, ten other people have Cory in their tank. We all introduce the medication, yours die, other ten tanks fish are healed, law of averages says the medication is not the problem. Should be listed in description, people obviously don’t just know this. This is my go to for most causes. Also the higher the temp in your tank, the less oxygen provided, so if you turn up the heat make sure the oxygen level is comfortable. Watch your fish whenever introducing something new.I am currently treating my tank with a full dose of Melafix and a full dose of Pimafix. My baby Angelfish, no bigger then a dime are doing just fine.

My fish is almost completely recovered from white eye. Takes about a week. Very happy with it.

So happy I found this stuff! My Cichlid had this weird white growth on her fin for months and it was definitely bothering her. It wasn't stopping her from eating or interacting with her family but it was HUGE and very ugly. I tried other remedies and nothing else worked. This API MELAFIX worked! As I used it as directed, I could see as time went by that the lump was getting smaller and smaller until it finally went away! It does kind of smell funny but it works perfectly!

I like that this is an organic product, which means it can be biologically broken down. I like that it uses tea tree oil, which is known to be toxic to a broad range of fungi and a handful of bacteria. That said, it was able to save my severum from a bad case of fin and tail rot, but not my betta from dropsy. There's a big difference between external and internal infections. I believe the Aquarist should still have access to erythromycin for certain internal infections, especially for hemorrhagic septicemia.Either that, or it should be explained on the packaging for medicated foods that this is not just for parasites, but that flagyl can be used for gram-negative bacterial infections.

I cannot comment on the item itself as it is delayed and receipt date was changed several times. The product was used before and it works well.

Probably good? Update - No effect

I got melafix for Fin Rot in my goldfish. Have been using it for a week. My tank is 590L so been using 7.5caps everyday at the same time. I think the mistake most people do is add the medicine an hour earlier than the day before and that could be dangerous. It's always important to add the medicine at the SAME time everyday. I've used it for a week now. No significant changes as such. Maybe slight improvement. I'll try for another week and see. At first the fish get really startled so it's important to keep an eye on them if any of them is swimming to top or gasping. None of mine did as I thoroughly increased the aeration in the tank. Also, if it is very hot then there will be naturally less oxygen in the tank. For that i added some frozen water bottles (make sure they are absolutely clean). For my big tank I added 2 - 1 L bottles. Please ensure you add little amount to yours based on your tank size as the fish should not get shocked with temperature changes.Overall my fish are usually very fussy with new meds but by day 3 they seemed okay with it. Fish will only get harmed if there is less aeration, water is too hot, you have used some previous treatment in the tank (so wait at least a week and then do 50% water change and only then add melafix) and please REMEMBER TO ADD AT THE SAME TIME EVERYDAY. Not before that.If you follow these steps 99% your fish will be safe.Update:Didn't have any effect. Treated fro almost 2 weeks diligently. One of my little goldfish had red veins there was absolutely no effect on that. Same condition after 2 weeks. Didn't see any improvement in other fish in the case of finrot either. Maybe 2% effect? Definitely not worth the amount of money spent. Although it's safe for fish so that's a good thing? Please remember to aerate the tank extremely well as this depletes oxygen in tank.

Effective fish medicine for tail/fin rot. As the product is organic it does not affect the bio filter and live stock including plants.
