Yeah I know what you are thinking. Burned frizzy hair. Not with this product. I am a man and my son wanted his hair permed. We had previously went to a beautician and spent $120 for a permanent that lasted less than a week before his hair lost all the curl. I reluctantly agreed to try my luck at this anticipating disaster. Thankfully this product is designed for home use and worked well without any hair breakage or frizz. The curls still only lasted a few weeks but that was probably due to me being a little reluctant to leave it on for an extended period. I will try again in the future if my family needs an inexperienced reluctant hair dresser.

My hair is fine and damages easily and is perfectly straight. It burns easily from curling irons; so I had to roll my hair when I wanted curl (but it would not "hold" for long). I could not find a professional who would do a perm; so I decided to "risk it" and give myself a perm. I followed instructions in the Ogilvie package, and the perm came out beautifully. I alternated roller size from medium to next to the largest on top and used medium down to near the nape of my neck, where I used the smallest rollers. I got the curly look I wanted without frizz. It was difficult to do all of the rollers myself and took a long time, but whenever one was not rolled to my satisfaction, I re-rolled it. It was time consuming and tiring, but worth the trouble. My biggest satisfaction was from the "leave in" conditioner that comes with the perm. It truly does condition the hair without leaving it greasy or heavy. My hair is soft and undamaged and has a curl that I love. It is as good as or better than any professional perm I have ever had, and at a fraction of the cost.

I was a little worried since this was the first time I was perming my hair at home and by myself. I was pleased to find out that the product includes the lotions and paper wrap things (I don't know what they're called). I bought the curlers separately as none was included.I have medium-lengthed, very thin hair. I was able to use all of the lotions/serums with some to spare for when I had to redo some curls that were flatter than I preferred. The whole process took me probably 3 or 4 hours, mainly because I have never curled my own hair before. That was atrocious. I will definitely get someone to help me next time, which should probably save me 1 or 2 hours. With that said, I am pleased with the results. I wanted more volume/body wave style, and the instructions on the box came with descriptive directions as to how to do this (along with other styles depending on hair types). It is still the first week since l've done the perm, so I can't say much for it's longevity, but I will be satisfied even if it lasts for 2 months, considering the price it costs. I've noticed that my shorter strands of hair, such as my bangs, have become frizzy. Likely this is due to how I rolled them, so next time I won't do my bangs as tight and high up.Overall, I will purchase this product again and recruit a friend to help.

Since it was my first time to perm my own hair, I read the precautions and instructions carefully. Also pay attention to the timing when do perming, but the smell makes me more uncomfortable.

This could be user error, or perhaps my hair just doesn't hold a perm anymore, because the curls only lasted about 2 weeks.

I have given myself home perms for years using mostly Oglvie or Precisely Right products with good results. I gave myself this home perm yesterday and it was the best experience ever in home perms. The pre conditioner and post conditioner have made it so my hair feels healthier and stronger. Great product.

I use Oglilvie every time and have for years. Buying it offline this time, the perm solution had little to no smell and was gone in 2-days. I would not recommend buying from this seller as it seems like it's either not their true formula or it was very old.
