5.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable Modern Espresso Cup. Durable Glass and Metal. Perfectly Sized for Moka Pot Coffee
This review is for the Bormioli Rocco 3 1/2 oz Espresso Cup with Stainless Steel Handle (Set of 4). I purchased this set when looking for a glass espresso cup that would allow me to check out crema from the side and give me an additional fun option in which to serve and enjoy espresso. The set arrived in a branded cardboard box with pictures of the cup, advertising text, manufacturing information, and company information. It's interesting to note that this particular set is from Bormioli Rocco S.A. with the words "made in Spain".The glass portion of the espresso cup measures 2 3/4" in diameter at the top, tapers down to 1 3/4" at the base, is 2 1/2" high, and weighs 122 grams. The stylish metal handle clips on at the base and adds another 17 grams and 1" to the width of the cup. (Note to self: you don't have to always remove the metal handle clips for washing, be careful to not pinch your fingers when removing them.) The glass portion is a single-walled construction of tempered glass approximately 1/8" thick. This single-wall construction was a significant draw/plus in my search after reading multiple reviews of double-walled demitasse cups that shattered during cleaning or failed within a year; I have been handwashing these cups as I would any of my other demitasse cups - without tiptoeing around for fear of breakage. The glass + metal construction and tapered shape give the espresso cup a clean modern look while allowing most of your focus to be on the contents of the cup. It was a bit daunting at first to see how little of the glass was occupied by a shot of espresso, even though the height of this cup is only a 1/4" higher than my regular white porcelain espresso cup. Another difference is the thicker rounded rim of the cup that subtly adds the feel of the glass in your mouth and which I usually associate with more of a hearty mug of coffee. That's probably why these cups worked very well for Caffè Americano and Moka Pot coffee drinks which have more volume to them. All in all, I would recommend the Bormioli Rocco 3 1/2 oz Espresso Cup with Stainless Steel Handle as a nice treat or gift (to yourself?) that offers a fun and different way to serve and enjoy up to 3 1/2 oz of coffee goodness.
5.0 out of 5 stars Feels like I'm at an Italian bar again
After living in Italy for five years, these little espresso cups take me right back to feeling like I'm in an Italian bar, swigging back a caffè normale. While I have several nice sets of espresso cups I've brought back from Italy and Austria, I wanted something for everyday use that I wouldn't worry about if they broke. My toddler also enjoys using these for his juice. These fit the bill as some of the most inexpensive espresso cups I could find around, plus the added bonus of that quintessential Italian coffee bar feeling. While some Italian coffee bars have really unique and beautiful little mugs (handmade pottery or such) these were one of the most common mugs you could find around, probably because they're cheap, durable, and hey, I'm pretty sure you could get them at IKEA! :)I have yet to have one break, despite being used by my husband and toddlers. :) My only recommendation would to be to rinse immediately after use with espresso, as the foam can be hard for a dishwasher to completely remove once it has dried.
5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for the task
We use these with our Breville Barista Express and a naked portafilter. They are perfect for dispensing a macchiato. Easy to handle, easy to clean, and attractive as well.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great quality glass and worth it for the price.
Old school but very cool. Parent's favorite
5.0 out of 5 stars Downsize caffeine consumption in style
We are using the Bormioli Rocco Verdi espresso cups for regular coffee. My husband and I are drinking less coffee, and, since we started drinking it from the Bormioli cups, we are enjoying it even more. The unique design really caught my eye when I was searching for small cups. When I first served coffee in these cups, my husband's response was "Cool cups!" The design is practical as well as appealing because the stainless steel elements protect the glass. My husband has large hands yet the handle of the cup is comfortable for him to use.
5.0 out of 5 stars Exactly what I was looking for!
These little guys are perfect for my daily espressos/little buddies. They hold right around 80g, which is exactly what I want in a 40/40 little buddy. The removable handle comes off easily enough without being loose and flimsy feeling when in use. The smooth corners at the bottom make rinsing and wiping easier so I don't have to wash it repeatedly each day and can just slide it into the top rack of my dishwasher when I've pulled my last shot. The single wall of glass does mean that heat dissipates more quickly than with a double-walled or ceramic alternative, but I prefer my coffee with a bit of the heat gone to help make the flavors easier to enjoy. These are the perfect set for my needs, and I have no regrets about this purchase! Other than a decorative set with a different aesthetic (I have too many coffee areas in my kitchen... it's a problem), I don't see myself ever needing to replace these.
4.0 out of 5 stars Stronger than previous purchase
We purchased a set of double-layer glasses and eventually broke ALL of them. While they are simple and look nice, they are not conducive to a home where non-adults exist :)These seem MUCH more capable of surviving.
5.0 out of 5 stars Captures both flows for a double shot
I LOVE coffee and try to limit myself (fairly unsuccessfully) to one cup a day so I opt for a double-shot in a 16 oz mug. That usually means my mug won't fit under my portafilter for my espresso machine. These little cups fit beautifully under the portafilter and I only need to use one at a time to capture both espresso streams. They also sit nicely on top of my machine when not in use.
Buen regalo
Fue un regalo, les gustó mucho, buen tamaño y bonita forma
Wonderful coffee glasses
I love these glasses. I have the same glasses only bigger, for cappuccino, for more than 5 years. They not only look great but are extremely resistant. I mostly washed them in the washing machine. I accidentally hit them in the sink while hand washing, without any damage. so after so long time the still look like new. So I decided to buy the small ones too. These work for espresso. I can't say i use them as often as the bigger ones, still I expect the same quality. I like glass cups for my espresso/cappuccino as I like to see how thick is the crema
