5.0 out of 5 stars Made to Last!
I've had this potato ricer for over a year now, and it helps me make very smooth and creamy mashed potatoes. This replaced a cheap grocery store model I purchased years ago, which was much smaller and rusted over time. I've put this in the dishwasher (on the bottom rack, even!) and it comes out looking like new. The pot rest extension is a feature my other ricer didn't have, which I couldn't imagine not having now. While it is a little harder to press down on the upper handle when the ricer is filled to the top, it isn't impossible, and the ricer can be loaded with less potatoes to make the process easier. The materials are top-notch, and the santoprene handle allows for a solid grip even with hands that may be a little wet from working in the kitchen. While a purchase price of roughly $40 is a little on the high side, at least to me, now that I've had it for over a year, I don't believe I will ever need to replace it because it breaks or wears out.
5.0 out of 5 stars Works great!
Very easy to use, didn't take as much muscle as I thought, smooth pressing action. Made very good mashed potatoes, no lumps and no electric mixer anymore. Also very easy to clean. Just boil potatoes, put them through ricer, add butter, milk and stir. That's it! I purchased larger one so I could a 1-2 potatoes at a time, (cut up and cooked first). Very pleased.
4.0 out of 5 stars Useful tool, but doesn't make mashed potatoes on its own
First, this is very large. It is simple to use, and rices potatoes nicely. I bought it having no experience with a potato ricer, and no idea what to expect. I just read that this tool was the be all, end all for mashed potatoes. Well, it does the job of "ricing" perfectly. The potatoes are turned into tiny potato particles. But some reviews indicated that going from tiny potato particles to mashed potatoes was simply a matter of stirring in butter/milk. This is not true in my opinion. After ricing I still use an old fashioned potato masher to incorporate the hot milk and butter, otherwise the texture is not right. I like the texture better WITH the ricer to first process the potatoes, but it is not a stand alone tool. As to the tool itself, it is a great quality, very sturdy, and easy to use. Storage space may be an issue if you have smaller cupboards. And it barely fits in my dishwasher. But it does fit.
5.0 out of 5 stars A Kitchen Essential
Is there anyone reading this who serves mashed potatoes either only at holiday dinners or often times during the year, but hates having lumps in them yet can't seem to get them out no matter how hard you mash or whip them? Then you must get this ricer. The size is wonderful because you don't have to refill it as often and the structure is so well put together that you can do many cooked potatoes at once without feeling any real pressure in your hands and arms. It is a smooth operator for sure. Your potatoes will be lump-free every time plus your preparation time is cut at least in half if not more. You only have to rice your cooked potato pieces into a large bowl, add heated milk and melted butter to the mixture and stir with a large spoon. You have instantly smooth mashed potatoes without any mashing or whipping whatsoever. A friend told me I should get one, I'd love it and she was right. I thought as long as I was going for it, I might as well get the best and this one is commercial quality. I couldn't be more pleased with a kitchen gadget. I don't know why I didn't buy one years ago when my children were small. It would have made mealtime preparation a whole lot easier! It is like a giant garlic press only less work because the cooked potatoes are softer than a raw garlic bud.
3.0 out of 5 stars Works but nothing special
I've used this item twice now. It does what it's supposed to do. It's not effortless, I do have to apply a decent amount of pressure to push the lever down completely. I read a lot of reviews before purchasing and all ricers seem to get so-so reviews so I imagine that this one is just fine for it's price point. It is easy to clean, which I like.
5.0 out of 5 stars potato ricer
I purchased this potato ricer to rice potatoes for lefsa. I received the ricer within a week of ordering it. It works really, really well. The ricer is very sturdy and easy to use. It is a really good size, not too small or too large. Other ricers I have purchased have been flimsy and bend easy, this one is sturdy and I am not afraid to fill it up!!!
5.0 out of 5 stars Great Mashed Potatoes
After looking for a better way to mash potatoes than with a hand mixer I finally found the solution! This makes mashing potatoes extremely easy and best of all, NO LUMPS! Just smooth, light mashed potatoes. I have to say, I don't get the jumbo part of the title. If this is a jumbo, I hate to see what the smaller ones would be. You can put one large, maybe a large and small potato in the basket. Everyone was talking how big this was. Before getting it I was looking for a place to clear out to make room for it. Was surprised to see it fits nicely with our other cooking equipment with no additional room needed. Would highly recommend.
5.0 out of 5 stars Very good kitchen product
This is a very sturdy ricer. It works like a dream, even though I have small hands. I had no problems using it. Easy-ish to clean -- let's face it, a ricer is just going to take a few more minutes to wash. It made wonderfully smooth potatoes and made me wonder why I'd waited so long to get one of these.
