5.0 out of 5 stars 000 miles This seems to be the best first choice as far as quality and updates in ...
2002 Chevrolet Avalanche Z71, 5.3 L 4x 158,000 milesThis seems to be the best first choice as far as quality and updates in systems to the pump as well as Delphi's well deserved reputation for dependability. They at least do a great job in selling their case and then offering a great warranty. The biggest job is to clean out the tank thoroughly and in my view that really requires the tank to be removed from the vehicle. And yes it is a hassle. Though I appreciate the shortcut method of cutting the passenger floor to make an access door for the pump's removal, that method does not easily allow for full removal of all the gas remaining in the tank nor the ability to wash out or tilt the tank around (you really have to contort the thing to give up its last gallon or two) and work at removing debris, slug, crap, etc.and without this major effort clean out, what remains could set you up for a premature "next" failure.Obviously, a new fuel filter would help a bit, but the pickup in the pump does the heavy lifting as far as initial filtration...but to each their own. I chose to overdue it and attempt to ensure this is a once every ten-fifteen year deal. The electrical and fuel connections on the pump were an exact match to my factory set-up (I am original owner). The installation of the pump itself into the tank was easy after positioning the original locking ring (with very little corrosion even with many winter and rain trips to Tahoe, off-roading and miles of dirt only roads to access our cabin in Lassen), dump runs, etc. and I used non ferrous punch and rubber mallet. I used a very thin film of silicon grease to protect rubber seal at install. All went perfect install-wise.The lifetime warrant is appreciated when most of the other's are one, two or none years.Given the hassle factor of removing the tank (it really is not that bad, know that I know....though the U Tube "how to's" miss or misinform really important simple initial procedures (if you are working without a lift, the rear of the truck has to be jacked up a good 16-18 inches (one nice guy's video...he out in the cold and rain.. finally clued me in to jacking up the rear end a good distance) both to allow a comfortable working space for yourself but especially once your connections are disconnected to allow for the tank to further drop down at fairly steep proper angle to both provide access to the top of the tank to remove electrical and fuel connections but also prior to "angling" the tank low enough at rear to allow the front of tank to drop out of its support).Same old thing: once you do it, it is a relatively simple procedure. Just jack up the rear pretty high and over jack stand and block the heck out of truck..6,000 lbs would hurt. Just saying. The removal of the fuel lines can be done at two points. At least on a 2002 AvalancheThe probable best preferred method is somewhat blind as the two plastic pull tab fuel line release connection points are adjacent to and aft of the external fuel filter, obscured by the front cross member support frame that the front of the gas tank rests on/near. If you reach above the frame you can feel the connections with both hands as you are laying down on your back with feet towards rear of vehicle. You literally can "hand feel" the plastic tabs and coax the connections off (as fuel drains on you or your catch pan and towel)...eye protection. By releasing at those points (rather than at the second spot: the fuel pump connection point, which are adjacent to the electrical/sending unit connections) the front of the tank is free and can be lowered to the ground (some remove the charcoal filter and/or its squeeze evap connections as those can hang up).hope that helps!
5.0 out of 5 stars Pump works fine. Note that there is a different pump for a Flex Fuel car which has a square 4pin connector instead of flat one!
Product works fine. Great price! $100 lower than the local O'Reilly auto parts store. Just installed . Longevity, of course, is the biggest issue when coming to the quality so time will tell. One thing I noticed from many reviews is that they required the Delphi FA10003 wiring harness adapter for the install. This harness takes the flat 4 pin connector on the pump and goes to bare wire.Everyone needs to note that there are two pumps for the same Chevy trucks. This one is for gas engines and the other one is for Flex Fuel. Note the two pictures. The gas engine pump has the flat 4pin connector and the pump for Flex Fuel has the square 4pin connector. Flex fuel vehicles requires the Delphi FG0811, NOT this FG0273! Evidently Flex Fuel is a bit harsher on the pumps, requiring a slightly more expensive pump with some different components. Looks like GM differentiated by the flat vs square 4pin connectors. You really should not need the wiring harness adapter if you get the correct pump for the type of fuel the truck uses so make sure you order the correct pump!
3.0 out of 5 stars Connection plug # GT-280 was not in the box
pump works great but I was lucky my mechanic had a spare plug # GT-280 in his spare parts otherwise there would have been a big delay. My understanding is this is suppose to be included.
1.0 out of 5 stars First one failed in one year and the second after one week
So thirteen months from the day this was installed, my wife and kids were stranded for hours because this fuel pump failed. So the original fuel pump lasted sixteen years. This one lasted just over a year. Today, my wife spends hours on a phone with someone who barely speaks English only to find out they won’t replace it. We have to remove the fuel pump and return it for a refund. While I am grateful for refund, I am very disappointed with the short life of this product.Update: Ordered a second fuel pump (assuming the first failed prematurely due to a defect). Today, the second pump failed after only one week of use. I think I have made my last Delphi purchase.
4.0 out of 5 stars Great quality OEM pump for a great price
Great quality OEM pump for a great price! Received promptly! The reason for only 4 stars is this particular pump is going to need the Delphi FA10003 wirring harness adapter for the install, and this pump should come with it, or at least state when purchaesing this unit that this wirring harness adapter will be needed! Also please read my review on the Delphi FA10003 for the install problems I encounted when installing that harness adapter! Hope this helps!
5.0 out of 5 stars Can't beat the price!
I searched high and low for the best deal for a new fuel pump. After 157K, my pump went out on my 2003 Avalanche. When I seen the price that Bolo was offering, I was quick to assume that this pump was a refurb. I check all of the local auto part stores that's in my vicinity and the cheapest I found was $275. Napa and GM sells this same pump for $399. Well long story short, this pump is brand new. It arrived over packed with everything you need to install. The assembly was a breeze. Just attach the float/rubber seal and you're ready for installation. Great Item; Great Price; Awesome Deal! Thanks Bolo!
5.0 out of 5 stars Amazon customer service is amazing
I purchased this fuel pump for 02 Escalade. The fuel pump arrived and i took it to my mechanic to have it replaced after bringing down the tank I was told that this part didn't come with a harness needed to hook it up to car's electrical system. called Bolo the first person didn't care about my situation however the second representative i spoke with took care of my issue. he even got me delphi's customer care number so i can perhaps get the harness locally. I called delphi only to find out that this is the wrong part for my car. it is for the EXT version and it does NOT come with a harness. I verified on NAPA parts website and sure enough Bolo has this part listed incorrectly. I was able to get it to work but it had to pay double the labor at the mechanics because it took so much longer than it should have. so why am I giving this a five start because it's an amazing product and Bolo has a wonderful customer service.
