About this item:
Enjoy the flavor and soul of New Orleans with Jambalaya Rice Mix. Add one pound of smoked sausage, cooked chicken, ham or shrimp for an easy meal your whole crew will love. Creole jambalaya was born in New Orleans in the 18th century when Spanish settlers tried to recreate their beloved paella using Louisiana ingredients. Today it’s a local staple, common from music festivals to Mardi Gras parties to quiet weeknight meals. And there’s a reason why you’ll find boxes of Zatarain’s Jambalaya Rice Mix in so many New Orleans pantries: It delivers classic jambalaya flavor and is incredibly easy to prepare. *Except those naturally occurring glutamates
A label from the earlier days of Zatarain'sThe tradition for making Zatarain's amazing New Orleans-style products was started well before the turn of the century by a man named Emile A. Zatarain, Sr. In 1889, he obtained the company's first product trademark and started to market root beer. Shortly after, he began to produce mustards, pickled vegetables, and extracts. As the business grew, so did the demand for a broader range of products. Through their expertise in blending spices, the company established a reputation for making only the most authentic New Orleans-Style food. In 1963, the Zatarain family sold the business, which was then moved to Gretna, Louisiana, a suburb of New Orleans.
Today, Zatarain's is the nation's leading maker of New Orleans-style food products. Zatarain's prides itself on great taste, high quality, and a near fanatical dedication to New Orleans cuisine. Interestingly, Zatarain's is as much a tradition at backyard barbecues as it is at formal dinners. From its humble beginnings, the company has grown to make more than 200 food products from rice dinner mixes, pasta dinner mixes, breadings, seasonings, and spices to seafood boils, stuffing mixes, and other products based on authentic New Orleans-style foods and seafood preparation.

5.0 out of 5 stars The seasonings are just right
I’ve made Jambalaya from scratch a few times, but never have been able to get the seasonings quite right. Zataran’s has it down perfectly and this smaller size box is good for just me for a couple of meals. It’s easy to fix - all you need to add is a medium, pre-cooked & cubed chicken breast, one Aidell’s Anduille sausage sliced and lightly sautéed if desired and some cubed ham if you have any left-overs or a small ham steak - maybe use just half. Mix it all in the size pot suggested; fix a salad while it cooks, add some crusty bread and dinner is ready in about 35 minutes. And if you like it spicy don’t forget to bring the Tabasco sauce to the table.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great product for making jambalaya
Great product for the price. Great taste.
5.0 out of 5 stars Good product at a great price for the 12 boxes
My friend, who's from Louisiana, said this is what he uses when he makes jambalaya. I was more than skeptical given that hes a creole boy, but this is a pretty decent product, especially if you are pressed for time and need to make a meal fast. I add shrimp and andouille sausage when I make it
5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect if you need a fast meal
Works great cooking in the rice cooker. Super fast and mild seasoning.
4.0 out of 5 stars Cheaper than instore purchase
A staple in the home for a quick meal with leftovers for the next day. I find that I do add my own vegetables (such as bell pepper) as the bits in this are definitely lacking. The flavor is all right, though it could be spicier and less salty, in my opinion. But I can always add the spices I want to suit my tastes.

Jambalaya
Very good but salty
This product was overpriced
I should have looked closer at the size of this package, I thought it was the family size even though I thought it was still expensive. It was not the larger size just the regular size.I found another company on Bolo and purchased five packages and it was still $4.00 cheaper for all five than this one.My fault but I won’t do it again.
Super tasty
Very authentic flavours and so easy to use
Tasty rice
Discovered this rice at a supermarket in New Orleans this year and I already purchased it a couple times since. Is one of our favourite rice dish. Recommend it.
