5.0 out of 5 stars Good, safe ink; a nice blue
This was my second order of Waterman Serenity Blue ink. The ink is well behaved in any pen and doesn't stain pens. It is a serene medium to dark blue with some shading depending on the pen and nib, suitable for most any use. It has a slight periwinkle tint, but that isn't usually apparent. On non-absorbent paper (such as some greeting cards) it can also have a red sheen, but again that is not usually apparent on regular paper. The glass bottle is very attractive and traditional but not fancy. It is well designed to facilitate getting the last amount of ink from the bottle by sitting the bottle on one of its side angles. For an ink that is not marked as being permanent, it has good water resistance when dry. I've not tested it to see if it's truly permanent. The bottle is marked "France," which is nice.My first order, several years ago, had no problems. My recent order, however, was not satisfactory because it appears this is not a new package of ink. The box is not in good condition, with worn corners and bulges and the top taped shut with a big piece of white tape or label. This was to be part of a gift (with a pen) and will totally not work for that because the box looks awful. Also, the bottle is not as full as expected, but that alone would not be a problem. It's not worth shipping back, but I contacted Bolo and they said they would send me a new bottle. I can't ask for more than that, other than it would have been nice if I could have completed the gift today instead of next week. If there is any further problem, I'll edit this review. I do appreciate their response. EDIT: I received the new bottle of ink just as promised. The second box looked a little better but had minor damage. I gave up and gave the ink without the box.None of this has anything to do with the quality of the actual ink or Waterman, so I did not deduct a star. I also did not deduct any stars for packaging, as there is nothing inherently wrong with Waterman's bottle and box when it is new and undamaged. Hopefully this was just a warehouse fluke and will be resolved as promised.
5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful & Sophisticated
If you are anything like me, and prefer to use colors you don't see every day, this is exactly what I wanted. It is not blue and it is not black, rather blue-black (hence the name "mysterious blue"), which has always been a favorite ink shade of mine when I am able to find it. Great for any purpose in which you would use either blue, or black, and you don't have to decide which one to use with this two-in-one shade. Excellent quality ink flows smoothly from my pen. (Next time I will wear plastic gloves when filling the pen, as the color is so saturated it stained my fingers.)
4.0 out of 5 stars Not intense at all
Ink flows fine in my fountain pens, but the “intense black” ink isn’t even as black as a Staples Optiflow pen. I kept it for my kids to experiment with and went with the color take-sumi from Pilot Iroshizuki for myself.
5.0 out of 5 stars The gold standard of blue inks
Waterman has been making high quality inks for almost a century and a half, and they really know what they are doing. The inks are pure and free of the chemicals and particles that can ruin a pen of any quality. You can use them in your thousand dollar grail pen and in your six dollar knockabout without concern, and with a striking result. Serenity blue is a classic deep blue with a brilliant finish that distinguishes it from run of the mill blues. But it's not so flashy that it seems out of context when signing important documents. The ink is not waterproof, but few inks are (though they may advertise water resistance). But it dries quickly and resists smearing. And like the rest of Waterman's inks, it is inexpensive. Finally, the bottle is shaped to sit steady while tilted, so you can get the last of the ink out. From start to finish Waterman inks will serve you well, as they have served aficionados and offices, students and professionals for years.
5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful blue.
Waterman Serenity Blue is a "staple" ink recommended by countless fountain pen enthusiasts, and for a reason. It is a beautiful color and performs well in most fountain pens. On sale at Bolo, it was under $10 a bottle which I consider a steal for ink of this quality. Thanks, Waterman! Maybe some day I will be able to afford one of your pens...
5.0 out of 5 stars What a Difference an Ink Makes
What a difference an ink makes. Waterman Intense Black is a great ink. It’s not as black black as I expected an ink with a name like Intense Black to be, but its interpretation of black is pretty great. I then began to see why some pen enthusiasts are also ink enthusiasts and have multiple shades of black from multiple manufacturers along with multiple other colors swatched in fancy notebooks with fancy paper I never heard of before. Count me in. I write a lot. Mainly, until recently in the notes app on my phone but pen and paper and ink while analog deepen the connection I have with the words I write. I’ve written with 2 different pens with this ink. A W&B extra fine nibbed pen and a Pilot MR Animal White Tiger with a medium nib. The pens write differently. Though you’d need a micrometer to measure the differences. Even though the ink is the same the pens left different lines and swoops. I liked the ink out of the W&B pen a hairline better. The ink arrived well packaged, on time and ready to be dispensed. The bottle looks great where I write. The bottle designed to be tipped on its side to be able to draw as much ink as possible shows me Waterman cared about its end users experience without gouging them, which makes me like them even more. I’m a fan Waterman.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great...
I love the pen and the ink that came with it. I bought this jar for refilling the pen.The ink is smooth and dries quickly. Not waterproof.
Excelente compra
Tinta negro profundo. La utilizo para dibujar en pluma fuente, con pincel y con plumilla. Es de muy buena calidad y me permite dar gradiente de grises. Estoy muy contenta con la compra.
Great ink
No issues, works as intended
Tinta de qualidade
Melhor tinta para canetas tinteiro. Uso há anos.
Confiable, excelente calidad
Best blue ink with good flow in the pen.
The ink is a better choice for premium pens like PILOT METROPOLITAN, LAMY SAFARI, etc. I bought it for my Pilot, and it is priced much lower than the standard pilot ink.
