5.0 out of 5 stars Worth Every Penny - Superior Alternative To Drain & Fill Method
I sat on this Mityvac for 3 month before using it for the first time today as both my Acura & Chevy Silverado 3500 are due for engine, A/T fluid change. First of all I want say "Thank You" to those provided product review on this Mityvac-7300, your feedback lead me to a purchase that I know will save me money & headaches many times over.I had to spend $370 for dealer to replace the oil pan on my Acura TL last year because the dealer mechanic stripped the thread. Worst of all they claimed these happen quite often because the pan is made out of aluminum to save weight & provides better heat dissipation etc. etc. etc... 6 month later my Chevy truck developed an oil leak from drain plug; needless to say it's caused by stripped threads. I took a leap of faith & had the drain plug bolt "welded" to the pan & stopped the leak for good so I now rely on this Mityvac exlusively for oil changes.Design: Comes w/ 3 tubes which are slightly "short" to be fully functional on their own, but the male-end can be inserted to the female-end, so you can combine all 3 tubes together & form a 15 feet suction tube. So the alleged disfunctional short tubing issue is a very easy fix. I do wish that it came with a compressor hose adatpor where you can just plug in the hose straight into the bottom, but that's a minor inconvenience, just go buy a $12 compressor hose kit from Walmart & problem solved.Operation: Instruction manual is worthless but thanks to a straight forward design, it's a no brainer to figure things out by looking at the picture on the box. Took me less than 3 min to pump out 3 qts of AT fluid & 6 min to pump out 5 qts of engine oil out of my Acura. The Silverado took about 8 min for 7 qts of engine oil & 10 min for over 10 qts of A/T fluid because I combined all 3 tubes together & consequently created more resistance on the suction. After all fluids are extracted, I simply reach under the hood to unscrew oil filters & screw on a new one. Wow!! No Mess..Tips: (1) Finding the bottom can be slightly tricky as you don't know whether the end of tube touched bottom or not, even if you feel resistance it could mean the tube is just pressing against something. Best practice is "line-up" the tube next to the "dip stick", mark the tube with a Sharpie so the marking indicates the exact length of your dip stick; this way you'll know exactly when the tube hits the bottom which will give you maximum fluid extraction. (2) Work when the car is warm & preferrably hot. Fluid flows much better & you'll get a much better extraction.Monetary benefit: So far I have saved myself 2 trips to dealers for the following: (1) Acura engine oil/filter change & A/T fluid change. (2) Chevy Silverado engine/filter change + A/T fluid change. My material cost for 2 filters, 12 qts of synthetic oil, 10 qts of Dexron III A/T fluid amounts to about $150. Had I gone to the dealers, my bills would have gone over $400. Not to mention risking someone over tightening the drainage bolt & ruining another oil pan.. I know there are some other fringe benefits of going to a dealer for routine maintenance such as car washes & tire rotations etc. I do my tire rotation at Costco & car wash at home with my pressure washer (quite fun, actually). Conclusion: You be the judge, if you are just borderline mechanically inclined like myself & thought about saving some money on maintenance, you definately should give this Mityvac a try. This has been the best investment I've made on automotive needs so far and I plan on using it for my lawn mower, motorcycle etc.
5.0 out of 5 stars It works great!
I have 3 cars, a jeep, a Volvo and a VW Passat so sometimes it seems like I am running my own little oil change shop. Anything that makes things easier is much appreciated. The Volvo and the VW have belly pans that have to be removed to do a regular drain plug oil change which is a real pain but both also have oil filters accessible from up top. So the MityVac makes oil changes tons easier on these cars. No need to get on the ground at all. If you have a car that fit this description one of the MityVac fluid extractors is must. It takes oil changes and moves them from being a Saturday morning project to something you can just whip off while waiting for dinner to be ready. No ramps, no messing with the belly pan, no changing into something you don't mind laying on the garage floor in, no laying in slush in January, etc. (On the other hand, the Jeep filter change requires getting on the ground anyway and there is no belly pan to remove so while the MityVac does work on the Jeep, I'm going to stick with the Fumoto valve technique there since I'm under the car anyway and the valve plus some tubing puts the oil directly into my disposal container a/k/a empty milk jug. If your car requires getting on your back anyway to change the filter I suggest looking into the Fumoto valve). It takes about 15 minutes to suck 6 qts of oil out. That's probably about the same as it would take to drain but it does result in time savings since you can get started in less than a minute then go gather up what you need to do the filter change and start on the preliminaries while it sucks away. Really, it is the convenience rather than outright time savings that makes this thing worthwhile. Added bonus - my lawn mower and power washer (both of which lack drain plugs) are now going to get more regular oil changes and I'm looking forward to using it to do a power steering fluid change, my next differential fluid change on the jeep and to bleed my brakes (it comes with a bleeder attachment). Well worth the price. At least on my cars, it pulls out as much oil as draining does (note, if you start off a quart or 2 low, it will not magically manufacture oil for you so the test is not how much it sucks out but how much you have to put back in). I have a 26 gallon compressor and it can do a whole change only cycling on once near the end. I use 100 psi. It was actually quite a bit quieter than I thought it would be. There is a plug in the top that pulls out to reveal a nice pour hole with a little spout for pouring the oil into a disposal container. The tubing is just long enough to do my cars which means its not long enough to do a truck without putting the MityVac up on something. But, the tubing is just generic poly tubing and there are no fittings so it should be easy to make longer tubing. I haven't tried it but there is a picture on the box of 2 of the included pieces of tubing connected together and it does look like the largest size might fit into the plug connectors on the ends of the other two pieces. (It is true the instructions are worthless. Don't even bother reading them).
Excellent product
Works awesome. Definitely should have had this years ago.
Works well for vehicle maintenance
Used this tool a few times already to service a power transfer unit and rear differential. My vehicle does not have drain plugs for these gear boxes (only fill plugs) and the manufacturer claims the fluid inside is filled for life. There are many documented cases of mechanical failure due to lack of maintenance with this particular set up so i decided to purchase a fluid evacuator to facilitate some sort of maintenance. This one was not the cheapest one available but i figure i have already covered the cost with the number of jobs i have done with it. I do have the luxury of being able to hook up to shop air so i have been quite satisfied with its performance.

Works great
Has good suction
Works great, no moving parts.
I bought this fluid evacuator mainly for changing the oil in my Jet Ski and it works great. This type of fluid extractor used the Venturi effect to convert compressed air into vacuum. I opted for this type of fluid evacuator because I already had an air compressor and there are no moving parts like in a manual pump evacuator. I also found a use for it while changing the oil in my truck. I over-filled the oil a bit so I used the fluid extractor to easily remove the excess oil through the dipstick tube. My only complaint is the poor instructions included. Although I figured everything out, I can see how other people might have problems that would be solved with a better instruction sheet.
