About this item:
Explore the wonders of magnets! investigate the mysteries of equilibrium, gravity, and magnetism as you make leaning magnets magically Float without touching, and then build your own magnetic levitating train. Includes neodymium and ceramic magnets, high-force magnet strip, iron fillings, plastic guide rails, compass, wood, nails, and activity guide with 5 experiments, 5 projects, glossary, and more. Some additional household supplies required. Created by a high school science teacher who really knows his stuff. Comprehensive activity guide (5 experiments, 5 projects, glossary, and more) is carefully designed to boost older children's prior knowledge of the BASICS of magnetism before they jump into the more complex projects included. Great for STEM and science fair projects! Assembly requires parent or teacher participation. Usage tips: avoid dropping and banging. Magnets that have been dropped or impacted by force can break and/or lose their magnetism-their domains can get misaligned. Storage: store all magnets away from electronics, high heat, and direct sunlight. Child safety tested for ages 10+/grades 5+.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great project kit
I was having challenges collecting the contents needed for the science project for my son and I found this kit. Everything I needed was in this box. The only thing I replaced was the multiple plastic strips and I bought one long strip from ACE hardware store to replace them. We were able to glide the train smoothly on the tracks.
5.0 out of 5 stars Thank goodness we got this as our backup project - But rethink doing this project…
So…. we tried to build a maglev train on our own and bought this as a backup - thank goodness we did. The pieces it included were way better than we purchased on our own, and somewhat easier to do, but still a HUGE pain. Kids and adults involved all found it extremely difficult to build and the whole process was frustrating and almost led to tears and abandoning the project :( there was also no option to buy replacement parts outside of any entire new kit which was disappointing - so while it ultimately saved our project - i would not give this to someone to build unless they absolutely needed to make a maglev train and could not be talked down - that said, this seems to be the best option if you do attempt this…
3.0 out of 5 stars Cool concept, poor execution
Got this to do with my son. Great concept, but the putty doesn't stick to the wood very well and there's no set place to lock them in. As a result, the rails are a bit wobbly and keep falling off. Oh well.
5.0 out of 5 stars So fun
Had a blast putting this together with my daughter. She pretty much did it all on her own. The plastic track was a tad bent, and the train was getting stuck so I helped bend it out. Worked great afterwords though. She got an A+
1.0 out of 5 stars Tacky and Unreliable
I got it for my students - what it's meant for. However, the success of the experiment is dependent on too many subtle factors and is hard to achieve with this cheap design. I ended up having to build it for them. It's made of cheap materials that are borrowed from things like furniture accessories, and it doesn't include a key component- strong contact cement (not just any glue will work). In addition, the repellent force of the magnetic strips make it difficult to glue on without the strips moving out of place as it dries. In short, it's absolutely not kid-friendly.
4.0 out of 5 stars A good science activity set to do and home
A good science activity set to do and home. Your child can build it independently with easy to follow directions.
5.0 out of 5 stars Cool way to introduce the power of magnetic forces
My son was amazed and enjoyed playing/experimenting with the kit.
