Yes this is costly. But your little buddy is worth it. If this keeps your pet out of pain and helps with daily walking around, there is no price too high to help with that. Best of all, my picky dog does NOT shy away from them when offered, he actually thinks they are a treat and eats them without objection, which as your probably know is not the reaction most dog vitamins get from your critter. So they must taste good. You will see THESE, this exact brand, at your vet and that should tell you something....they are the best. So don't let the price turn you off.

UPDATE!I submitted this review more than 3 years ago. The dog referenced recently passed, at almost 10, after developing osteosarcoma, a deadly bone cancer. However, until that that time, she continued to receive Dasuquin with MSM daily, and was a vibrant, crazy strong beast right until the cancer devastated her ability to move. I still highly recommend this stuff. HOWEVER, make SURE you are getting the REAL product--Nutramax claims that they have been involved in litigation with fake suppliers.This stuff is a must-have for every large breed dog at risk for hip dysplasia or arthritis. (Which is pretty much every large and giant dog.) It reduces the inflammatory response that ultimately leads to degraded joints and arthritis. All my dogs get it daily from puppyhood on. It has made an enormous difference in the lives of several of my dogs with poor joints. My Mastiff/St Bernard cross pup walked with the telltale gait for bad hips, so I asked my vet to take an x-ray of her hips when she went in for spaying. They didn't bother to scan her, because as soon as she went under anaesthesia, they were able to slide the balls of her hips out of their sockets and back in, easily, by hand. They recommended surgery (breaking her pelvis and rotating it) for each side. They said she would probably not be able to walk without hip pain by the time she was full grown if I didn't have the surgeries done...but they also said she would she would still suffer from arthritis problems. I started feeding her the max dose of Dasuquin that day, and she's received every day of her life. She's now six. She runs, she jumps, she's crazy fast for a dog her size (150 lbs) and she's still strong as an ox. She's only in pain if she "overdoes" things, like when she has all-day play dates with other dogs, or when it is extremely cold outside. Her hips and spine are in far better shape than what her prognosis was, and far better condition than several other giants I've had at the six-year mark. This stuff is available at your vet's office, but is cheaper in larger quantities via Bolo.

We have a 16yr 65lb mutt whose movement was severely limited by her hips/hind end. She had some loose stool when giving her the initial dose (she is on the lighter side for the Large and we havent ruled out other reasons for this either) but to be on the safe side we did roughly 1.5 pills/day with alternating 2/day depending on how it seemed like she was feeling (also very thankful for our waterproof dog blanket) until the titration period was over. But oh boy! What a difference this has made!! Today she even did a quick little scamper and a leap. Shes still old and slow—but shes been able to get up and sniff around on her own, is much more active (and willing to be active), and I really feel like this has improved her overall quality of life. She seems to like the way they taste and thinks they are treats. I’m sorry we didn’t do this earlier, sweet girl. We are so grateful!

Our 10 year old dog was struggling to get around and the vet recommended this joint supplement. At first she was on a larger dose for the first month and we notice a difference after we a few weeks. She now is 13 and is on the regular dose and is still getting around well even though she has started to slow down. She still loves to jump on the couch. She takes the chewable pill without a problem and seems to enjoy the taste.
4.0 out of 5 stars Not the miracle I was hoping for, but I do believe it has helped
I have a 5yr old Great Dane who is genetically prone to have arthritis. He had Pano for nearly two years when he was a pup which left his joints susceptible to early onset arthritis. We try to keep him as lean as possible to ease the weight on his joints, but he still weighs about 140#. He is on a totally raw diet and we feed chicken feet as a natural source of glucosamine, but I would just have to fill his diet up with too many feet to get the amounts I was looking for. Raw diets are excellent choices, but we have to remember we are feeding some breeds that are NOT natural and sometimes it's important to supplement.My vet is an orthopedic specialist and eventually, he just sent me home with a giant bottle of Rimadyl and told me to keep my boy comfortable. No way! Since then, I have upped his natural glucosamine in his diet, I walk him once per day and have him swim every other day. And of course, I have been supplementing with Dasuquin with MSM. I noticed a difference after about two weeks which really made me happy to see. Great Danes don't realize how big they are and sometimes aren't very careful with themselves when they play. My guy, Bullwinkle, loves to chase my kids around the pool and he limps a little afterwards, because he takes the turn too fast! I've noticed his limping is far less significant while on the Dasuquin, even after an injury. I have never had to give him the horrid Rimdayl - just a couple buffered aspirins every once in a while if he seems painful.I really believe the best thing to do is start supplementing, especially in large dogs with big knobby joints, BEFORE there is a problem. You can't fix arthritis, you can just stop or slow the progression and you can add a little extra fluid to the joint, with supplements, to ease the discomfort. Giving a supplement like this one, can prevent these problems, giving your dog a chance to live a relatively pain-free life and will save you money in the long run.I have another, younger Great Dane, and she is taking the Dasuquin BEFORE any problems occur. I also give them to my English Bulldog since they too have funky wobbly knees. I feel confident that with their raw diet and Dasuquin supplements, I am doing the best for them that is possible.And to review specifically Dasuquin, yes it is pricey, but in the grand scheme of things, a few extra bucks a month is NOTHING compared to a senior dog's daily pain. Dasuquin with MSM has the customer backing I look for when purchasing any new product and the ingredients don't lie. I would definitely give this a shot - in just one bottle you should see a difference, so it's a one-time investment if you end up disliking the product - but what if you DO!

Despite the product title these are for LARGE dogs, which is actually what the "technical details" section says. Don't worry if you make the same mistake I did as you CAN get a refund, despite what it says it you try to process a Return. If you go to the Support chat, it will process a Refund, but you don't need to Return the item... so, do what I did and donate it to my local dog rescue!
Highly recommended for senior dogs
Highly recommended product. My 11.5 year old Golden Retreiver diagnosed with Arthritis is remarkably better. He was having trouble getting up and would often fall down while on a walk. He would often groan in pain and became disinterested in most things. But now, he is back to his old self (one needs to remember he is still a senior dog). He gets up easily and has started enjoying his walks again. He is galloping after his ball again and it has been a while since I have heard him groan. Took 2-3 weeks for the initial result and we continued to see gradual improvement beyond that. It has now been 4 months and the results are marvelous. My dog weighs a little over 30 kg and we give him 3 tablets daily, one each in the morning, afternoon and night.
