works perfect on my 1965 Barracuda it has a solid steel front bumper this mounted right to it and the height was just right to line up on the trailer hitch on my 1993 Buick almost NO Tonge weight towed my car 50 miles no problem, did have to disconnect the Driveshaft to the transmission. give your self lots of room to stop and take corners real wide. The Cuda just followed along I turn it turns I stop it stops, just like a tow strap but better as long as there is not a lot of Tonge weight, then it would rip the trailer hitch off the car or the bumper on the towed car. Has to line up correctly to work. backing up did not work very good the wheels would turn on the Cuda you need a helper in the other car to turn steering wheel as you back up into your spot, I would AVOID having to back up if all possible. if you turn into a parking lot give your self room to make a big circle or go out a diferent exit. just puts a lot of pressure on everything when you back up. not good! Now IF my car breaks down at Bandimere Speedway I can tow it home the 75 miles. Got my tow lights all wired up and working too just to be safe.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good tow bar, but you will need to purchase the safety chain kit to use it ...

First, this is a very solid item, and it worked really well towing my 1968 Jeepster behind a motorhome. The reason I am giving this a 3 star rating and not a 5 star rating is that there is nothing in the description to tell you that you need to purchase a kit for this tow bar in order to hook up safety chains. Imagine my surprise the day before I was to tow my Jeep to the desert to learn that I didn't have what I needed to attach tow chains to this tow bar. I ended up at a hardware store trying to make something work at the last moment, and I was pretty upset both with Reese and Bolo the whole time I was doing it too.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not perfect, but does the job, and worth the cost.

I've used the tow bar now to tow my Wrangler about 1000 miles; four 250-mile trips. Like some of the other reviewers, I would have liked it to be clearer about the need for safety chains. I did figure out that I'd need those, but I didn't realize I really ought to have *4* of them. (Well, you can use chain or steel cables.) The idea is that you have a back-up connection for each place it might come loose. Makes sense, but not something you'd figure out unless you've towed things before. It wasn't too hard to install, although I did have to carefully figure out where to drill the holes; my bumper was a bit crowded, so it was hard to find a space wide enough for the brackets. Also, I took the bumper off the Jeep to do the drilling, since trying to drill holes in thick steel with a hand drill is very difficult; a drill press is enormously easier.Once the brackets are mounted, though, I definitely appreciate the fact that it's quite easy to remove the tow bar itself. There are big pins with integral spring locks, so you push the pin in and snap the spring lock down to attach, and pop the spring off and pull the pin to detach. No separate cotter pin to lose. The whole thing's made of steel, either painted or galvanized, so I don't expect to have problems with rust any time soon, and none of it seemed flimsy or cheap. The holes for securing the safety cables are kind of small: the cables I bought have a snap-clip that was too big to fit through, but I just used a screw-fasten chain link (2963DAT) to attach the cables (http://www.Bolo.com/gp/product/B0009V1WTS/) to the tow bar, and used the snap-clip end to fasten them to the back of my truck.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don’t Buy been discontinued two years ago!!!!!!!

Couldn’t get the safety chain kit that they said you need. Because the tow bar and the safety chain kit No longer exist and we cannot find it anywhere. So we got screwed. They discontinued the tow bar two years ago, and of course the safety change kit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy on and off

These brackets are much more robust than the old ones. I bent the old one that was a C channel, but this is Box Chanel. I had to drill a hole on each side to line up the brackets. Well made. Goes on and off easy with the heavy duty pins. Be sure to order safety cables!
