This colorful chalet style German quartz cuckoo clock accurately keeps time and plays 12 different melodies. Many colorful flowers are painted on the clock case and figures of a Saint Bernard and Alpine horn player are on each side of the clock dial. Two decorative pine cone weights are suspended beneath the clock case by two chains. The heart shaped pendulum continously swings back and forth. On every hour the cuckoo bird emerges from a swinging door above the clock dial and counts the hour by cuckooing once per hour. (Example: At one o'clock the bird will cuckoo once. At eight o'clock the bird will cuckoo eight times). After the cuckoo bird cuckoos one of 12 different melodies will play. 1. Happy Wanderer, 2. Edelweiss, 3. Dr. Zhivago, 4. Swan Lake, 5. He was beautiful (theme song of the movie "Deer Hunter“), 6. Lorelei, 7. Home sweet Home, 8. Sound of Silence, 9. Clementine, 10. The Entertainer (theme song of the movie "Sting), 11. Love theme of the movie "The Godfather“, 12. Fur Elise. Requires three C size batteries to operate (not included). *Great effort has been made to portray each cuckoo clock as accurately as possible. I bought this clock after many days of trying to figure out if it was worth the $$$, finally took the plunge and bought it. Since my honeymoon to Europe, I had fond memories of wanting one of the Black Forest Cuckoo clocks in the shops we visited but wasn't ready then to pay the $$$. Well, 2 kids later, thought the kids would love a cuckoo clock and I was right. I love how the kids (5 and 4) wake up early to catch the 1st cuckoo visit at the perfect time of 7am when the sun is up...happens to be perfect timing for the kids to get up for school. So, not only is the sound of the cuckoo clock fun, the music lovely and the art work whimsical but it doubles up as an alarm clock!Only wish is that it was bigger but perfect for a smaller space!Just love this clock...worth every penny!

Note these are updated versions of the cuckoo clock. They still make the old style ones, all wood-even the weights, non quartz, with the old clockwork movement, but these are not that, though the heart still swings back and forth as if it has clockwork movement but the 'weights'-note they are plastic but it is hard to tell, do not move up and down but are in a fixed position. So if you would not be happy with this style do not get one. This style is also smaller then a regular cuckoo clock so check the dimensions before ordering one. I recommend hanging them towards the ceiling since they make them look higher. Note these cuckoo clocks do have a few plastic parts, but they are adorable, and you cannot easily tell. The sound is great, and it turns off in darkness automatically which is fantastic. I remember when I visited St. Goar Germany eyeing the cuckoo clocks I saw there with great longing, since I was unable to purchase one of my own at that time. It is so wonderful to have one of my very own at long last. These clocks keep fantastic time. They take C batteries, so be sure to have some on hand if you purchase one. My spouse named ours Yodel.

I was a little apprehensive to purchase this clock due to the price. However I also did not want a clock that you had to pull the gears daily to work like a traditional cuckoo clock. This clock seems to be a good size and is very nice looking rather than the dark plain look of a cuckoo. Bird comes out every hour and has a great cuckoo with a running water sound. The chimes after the cuckoos also are very pleasant. This item was better than expected and I would highly recommend. If there is anything I don't like is the light sensor is not great as I have to end up turning sound off at night. Great switch on the side for cuckoo only, cuckoo with music and off. Heart swings back and forth on bottom. Again I am very happy and think anyone else would be as well...great item, thanks.

I've had this for about 2 months now and it's s great little clock! It's very pleasant and the songs are awesome- you never know which one will play! The night-sleep function works great- I was a little dubious of that. The only things someone might not like are: it IS pretty small (but so cute and bright!) and the cuckoo has this strange echo (basically sounds like it cuckoos twice for each hour). So when u r listening to see which hour it is, you can't count the cuckoos, or if u do, divide them by half.Uodate- 1/202/2020 Still going strong! I gave it another star for lasting through all the moves and making each of my kitchens bright and homey. Love this clock more now than I did years ago!

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS!! Just received mine BROKEN and completely not what's in the picture. It look like they put super glue on the front of the clock and threw some weird cheap confetti crap on random places on the front of the clock. The stuff is falling off everywhere. Part of the roof and a hand off the clock were broken off in the bottom of the box. Some parts of the clock are raw wood and not even painted!! This looks so incredibly cheap and bad. The pinecones are cheap plastic and they missed painting spots when they were spraypainting it. You can get a much better product somewhere else. River City Clocks......you should be ashamed of this work and obviously have no pride in what you do.

This is a beautiful clock. It works perfectly. I have one large cuckoo clock that is manual, meaning I have to pull the chains up on it everyday. That got old fast. This one is battery operated which is much simpler. Also the packaging says that it does come from the Black Forest of Germany. The cuckoo emerges amid the sound of a babbling brook and cuckoos the hour. Each cuckoo is echoed like another cuckoo is answering from a distance. The second cuckoo call is faint so you can easily tell the difference. I love being surprised at which tune it plays. They play randomly so you never know which one you will get. The whole clock (not counting the pendulum and pine cone adornments) is about the size of an average bird house. Perfect if you don't want a larger one taking up your wall.

Light sensor works great allowing a good night's sleep. Keeps accurate time. The hourly music is pleasing to hear. Love the color and detail. However, check all corners because I had to return mine 3 times until I saw no damage to a corner. This was not caused by shipping. Cuckoo sound is a recording of a babling brook, a cuckoo and an echoing cuckoo. That was a surprise, but it grew on me and is acceptable. All in all, I'm very happy with the clock.
