About this item:
The 4M Potato Clock teaches young minds the value of green energy in an illuminating way. The Potato Clock uses a pair of ordinary spuds to power a digital clock. This kit includes a digital clock, wires and prongs; two potatoes are all that's needed to create a working clock. This kit is ideal for young science enthusiasts, and offers a valuable lesson on the transformative power of green science. Detailed assembly instructions included. No batteries required.
You may know potatoes as a good source of potassium, but did you know they can be used to power an alarm clock? This kit contains a digital clock, instructions and everything you need (minus the spuds) to run it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice experiment!
I don’t have time to shop for science fair stuff so this was a nice kit. It was a little challenging to create an appropriate Hypothesis and procedure to preform. Luckily my husband is handy and we used a volt meter to measure the electricity coming from the potatoes to complete a proper experiment comparing red and white potatoes.
5.0 out of 5 stars Well worth the price we paid.
My 9-year-old and I built this together this morning. She did most of the work, while I did most of the reading and showed her how to identify parts using the diagram. Frankly, I felt a tad overwhelmed when she first opened the instructions, so I said we might have to wait for Dad to come help. Then my younger son said “Yeah, you’re probably going to have to wait for dad to build something like that,” to which I replied “No, we can do it, we just need to take it step by step.” Truly, once we looked over the peices and diagram, the instructions were easier to follow than I thought. Neither my daughter or I had put something like this together before. Our robot (which she named “Scooter”) turned out great. My daughter was thrilled and very proud of herself. A priceless experience. I will say Scooter does a good job detecting the edge but does fall off the table. You have to follow the directions about placing it slightly diagonal to the edge from the center of the table. When it falls some peices fall off, but she just puts it back together again.
5.0 out of 5 stars If you need a potato clock...
This kit has everything you'll need in it except for the potatoes. Clear directions, all the parts. This is a great science experiment for younger or middle school-aged kids, and the adults will get a kick out of it as well.
4.0 out of 5 stars Nice kit for kids, clock is a little finicky.
A gift for a 10+ kid who is into science. I am familiar with the potato clock set-up, but it seems that a novice could also follow the instructions with ease. May need an adult to help twist the wires onto the copper and zinc conductors (similar to a thread-the-needle technique). You have two options to set this up: 1) buy two potatoes, or 2) use soda in the included plastic cups. Both methods yield the same result, but the soda method can be tedious. If the conductors touch inside the cup of soda, then the experiment does not work. Lots of DIY videos online using zinc nails and pennies if you need to grasp the basic concept.Only gripe is that the clock could be a little more user-friendly. It doesn't sit upright on its own and doesn't have the "press and hold" feature for set-up that most clocks/watches do. Therefore, if it tips over or you have an accidental bump of the wrong button, it will probably reset. May want to create your own labels for the two clock buttons to aid the youngsters.

Powers alarm clock
The alarm clock does power on for all types of fruit… including plain water… wonder if it’s just completing the circuit that powers it
