5.0 out of 5 stars Great oil pressure on old engine
I had a lifter fail on my 5.3 vortec 03 suburban. I pulled both heads, replaced all the lifters, springs and valve guid seals and put in a stage 2 cam. I had decent oil pressure before so I left the oil pump in place. I thought I dropped a bolt down the cam valley though so I pulled the oil pan and pick up tube. I reused the o ring on the pickup tube and that was a terrible idea. After everything was done I started the truck and had 40psi at idle but after the engine warmed up it would drop to less then 10 at warm idle.I decided to just order a new oil pump and because of the choppy idle I opted to up the oil pressure. This pump performs great! I used the installed spring, instiall the bolts hand tight and then spin engine 360 degrees to align the pump and then torque the bolts tight. I primed it by cranking the engine with the injectors unplugged on each valve cover. Once I plugged the injectors back in and started the truck it built pressure instantly. I attached 3 photos, one showing cold idle, one showing cruising and one showing warm idle. Oil pressure peaks just under 80 psi on hard throttle and never drops under 40 now. Very happy, hopefully I get another 240,000 miles out this engine now.
5.0 out of 5 stars Quality oil pump
Nice
5.0 out of 5 stars Oil pump
Oil pump work great keeps good oil pressure not had a problem with this fitting a 2008 Chevy Silverado .
5.0 out of 5 stars Melling oil pump
Don't buy a cheap oil pump off of Bolo and then have to replace it almost immediately like I did. Get the melling pump, you won't regret it. The Chinese pump I bought it was hard to get the timing chain cover over it.
5.0 out of 5 stars Quality pump! Inferior instructions
Pump works great! But they fail to mention to finger tight the bolts and rotate the engine 360 degrees and then torque the housing bolts! Learned this the hard way!!!! Totally my fault but would have/ should been in the introductions that come with the pump!
5.0 out of 5 stars Old company great product.
5.3 gm engine. No oil pressure after installingMellings high pressure pump holds 75 lbs of pressure even after oil has warmed up.
5.0 out of 5 stars 2009 chevy truck 5.3
I installed this oil pump on my friend's 2009 Chevy truck with a 5.3 l.. I used the Spring that came already installed ..his pressure went up a bout 5 pounds per square inch. It is a true melling pump. Made in the USA. He has a Texas speed camshaft.. DOD delete. I would only use a higher pressure higher volume pump if you are staying with a VVT or DOD system. Other wise you are wasting horsepower. Imo.
1.0 out of 5 stars Failed 3 miles in
Never would have thought a Melling pump would be known for questionable QC, but this is just unacceptable on such a crucial part of an engine. Failed within 3 miles by seizing, no debris from engine break in. Primed and checked prior to running. Changed oil twice with no issue. Lost a new engine. Be wary.
