Everyone's butt is different, but mine likes leather saddles. I was comfortable right out of the box with no break-in. I have 2 more of these ready to go on my other bikes.I like that Brooks saddles are firm, but also have a cushy "give" when you hit sharp bumps.I bought a Brooks Team Pro (also carved) before the B17. For me the B17 is more comfortable. I'm not sure why, but it might be due to the cutout. The B17 cutout is about 21 mm wide, the Team Pro is 18. I have a very large prostate. The extra 3 mm width could make the edge of the cutout less noticeable. I'm aware of the cutout edge on the Team Pro, but not so much on the B17.I'm 5'8", about 150 pounds. I typically ride upright at 13-17 mph on drop bar road bikes.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great Saddles!!!
I first bought a Team Pro Imperial (Honey Brown) a couple of months ago to replace another saddle I had been using on my Cannondale R1000 road bike. It felt great from the first time I rode using it. I treated it per the instructions before installing it on my bike. With some bar tape to match it has a great vintage look and is very comfortable. My second ride with it was a mountainous metric century and I finished it with absolutely no discomfort from the saddle!I have been rebuilding an old touring bike and needed a saddle for it. Since the Team Pro worked so well I decided to order another Brooks saddle. My only fault (sort of) with the Team Pro is that there are no eyelets nor other good way to tie a tool bag to the seat. So, I ordered a B17 Imperial in standard width and brown color. Dimensions are very similar to the Team Pro but the frame has eyelets for my toolbag. One of the first things that I noticed is that the leather on the B17 is noticeably thinner than the leather on the Team Pro. That makes the seat a bit more flexible and I guess it will be "broken in" a bit quicker than the other saddle. As with the first saddle, it was comfortable from the first time I sat on it. That makes the break in time a non-issue for me.I am very pleased with both of my Brooks saddles. They are a bit more comfortable for me than the "men's anatomic saddles" that I had been using previously. There have been no perineal issues for me which can make a huge difference in whether a saddle works for long hours on the bike or not. I would not hesitate to buy another one in the future.
5.0 out of 5 stars A classic!
While this is normally a 5 star saddle (I have them on all my bikes), the one I received has some variations in the leather grain that I probably wouldn’t have chosen if I had the opportunity to pick my own. But given that it was a great price and not visible in use, I’ve learned to live with it.The B17s is always comfortable, will last forever, and is an excellent choice.
5.0 out of 5 stars Love it!
This is a beautiful saddle and I love it! Surprisingly very comfortable from the beginning. Has gotten more comfy as it breaks in. More comfortable than any padded saddle I’ve tried.
4.0 out of 5 stars Great saddle.
It's true, these things take ages to break in. My first Imperial took about 500 miles and a 65 mile, 100 degree day to break in. Slather on leather dressing for the first month, and use it sparingly thereafter. Take care of it, and it will take care of you. I've got at least 20,000 miles on mine. You'll want to invest in a waterproof saddle cover and a two-bolt seatpost. You'll have to make a ton of fiddly little adjustments over time and the two-bolt seatpost will make your life much easier. For the record I ride a Surly LHT and my seatpost has about 25mm setback. These saddles are notorious for having short rails so you'll need to use a seatpost with the right amount of setback to compensate for the lack of fore/aft adjustability. The only thing I would change is that I would like to see a sprung, Imperial S model. Hence the 4-star review. They make them in the standard Imperial, but not the "ladies" S model. I ride in skirts on a daily basis and like having the shorter nose and wider cantle, but as a trade-off I can't get a sprung saddle.
5.0 out of 5 stars Just about perfect!
This saddle is just about perfect. It was relatively comfy right out of the box and 100 miles in, is only getting better and better with each ride.Note, the Imperial version I got comes factory pre-laced and Brooks recommends keeping it like that. They include a few other colors of laces in case you want to change the look but they still recommend using the same lacing as original should you want to replace the laces. The laces just keep the sides from flaying out too much over time since this version of the B17 has the potential of being a bit softer than other non cutout versions.Brooks leather saddles are the best because they adjust to you over time versus you having to adjust to the saddle like virtually all other saddles. It looks great too and is made to a high standard in Britain. I'm using it on my ebike and highly recommend!
5.0 out of 5 stars As good as you think.
Heavy, but amazingly built and it is shaping up to become my most comfortable saddle. I love the quality, so I’ll be buying a couple more for all my bikes.
5.0 out of 5 stars There worth every penny when you finally get it broke in.
It's a Brooks, it'll break in! I put this on a Trek Allant+7S.
Highly comfortable
I always give a 5 star rating whenever I am fully satisfied withvthe item. Before having this saddle I had severe pain problem on my sit bones that I had to change saddles a couple times wasting good money. The Imperial B17 relieves my butt immensely. I can sit for more than 3 hours without pain on my sit bones. I am buying another for my other bike. And yes, I am not into racing and the weight is never a problem to me. I am 80 years old.
La mejor calidad
Se nota en la fabricación del asiento que está pensado para durar. La mayoría de las cosas que actualmente usamos, son desechables, hasta los autos ya duran menos.Estos artículos conservan lo que antes eran las cosas.
A very regal saddle
In rebuilding a British fixed-gear bicycle, the Brooks B17 Imperial was a no-brainer. This saddle looks very regal—Something, the royal family, would use. The packaging was exceptional, with spare tools and sample leather polish. For my entire cycling career, I’ve ridden on saddles that emphasized weight and speed over comfort, so I don’t care much for the pre-break-in feel. However, I do see that this seems to be something Brooks customers care much about. Out of the box, the saddle is stiff but still very comfortable.Overall, considering the materials, quality, and 10-year warranty, the price isn’t so bad. To put things into perspective, the highest-quality “Chinese equivalent” with the Brooks moniker costs about $100.
Oozes class
I’m still breaking it in but it’s looking good and already as comfortable as the seat I had before. Will buy another for my other bike.
Great quality.
Usual Brooks quality, Loved the saddle quality and good price but had to send back as its the women's version not mens, was not very clear on the website, such a shame.
