    From the Manufacturer

    Awaken Your Senses with Excellence

Lindt Excellence chocolate sets the standard for the ultimate chocolate pleasure experience. When you savor the taste of Excellence, the thin, refined profile melts evenly to reveal complex layers of flavor, engaging all of your senses.

    The Lindt Difference

Creating fine chocolate is an art that requires great skill, dedication and passion. The Master Chocolatiers of Lindt are experts of this craft. For more than 165 years, Lindt has been developing innovative chocolate recipes with meticulous craftsmanship, resulting in superior tasting, high quality premium chocolate.

Lindt Chocolate uses only the finest ingredients, and is one of the few chocolate manufacturers that control the entire production process – from roasting the cacao beans to producing the chocolate.

    The Art of Chocolate Tasting

You don’t need to be a professional chocolatier to appreciate the subtleties of expertly crafted premium chocolate. Much like fine wine, chocolate is best experienced with all five senses. Learn the art of tasting chocolate through a process the Master Chocolatiers at Lindt call 5 Sense Chocolate Tasting, and then share this ultimate chocolate pleasure experience with your friends and family.

    Sight

Examine the chocolate’s appearance. Notice the silky matte sheen– a sign of proper tempering. Color can vary, from deep, dark brown to auburn– a result of the type of cacao beans used in the recipe.

    Touch

Feel the smooth, silky surface. Premium chocolate is never rough or grainy. A rough surface can indicate poor conching or improper storage.

    Taste

Allow the piece of chocolate to melt slowly on your tongue. The thin refined profile of Lindt Excellence will melt smoothly and evenly. As the chocolate melts, try to discern the many unique flavors other than cocoa. Look for notes of fruit, spices, even tobacco. The flavors will evolve as the chocolate lingers in your mouth.

    Sound

Hold the chocolate close to your ear and break a piece. Listen closely. Premium chocolate breaks with a distinct, audible snap and clean edge.

    Scent

Breathe in the rich fragrances and intense aromas. You may detect scents of vanilla, red fruit, honey or earth – to name just a few. Like wine grapes, some of the cacao beans flavor will reflect the region in which it is grown, including the qualities of the soil.

Chocolate & Wine: The Perfect Pairing

Pairing Lindt Excellence with a fine wine is a perfect sensory experience. Separately, the chocolate and wine deliver exquisite flavors. Paired together, the flavor is elevated, intensifying the taste experience.

    • First, taste both the chocolate and wine individually.
    • Then, to being the pairing, take another piece of chocolate. Savor the taste as it slowly melts in your mouth.
    • When the last lingering notes of chocolate are all that remain, take a sip of wine. Hold the wine in your mouth, allowing it to coat your palate.
    • Notice the complex changes in taste as the wine mingles with the residual chocolate flavor. A harmonious pairing will intensify and elevate the taste experience.

Ice Wine & Intense Orange Pairing

The sweet citrus profile of Excellence Intense Orange demands a sweet wine with fruit flavors and a balancing seam of acidity. This chocolate matches beautifully with a sweet and concentrated Ice Wine.

Rosé & A Touch of Sea Salt

Rosés can be dry or sweet. Choose the dry variety to serve with Excellence A Touch of Sea Salt. The ripe berries and delicate floral notes of the wine will complement the sharpness of sea salt and sweet cacao characteristic of this fine chocolate.

    Merlot & 70% Cocoa

Hints of vanilla, juicy blackberries and toasted oak come to mind when sipping a classic Merlot. Partnering it with Excellence 70% Cocoa will feature hints of red berry mingled with cacao and vanilla. Full-bodied, yet balanced, this pairing is quite harmonious.

    Port & Chili

Mellow, sweet dark chocolate and spicy red chili found in the Excellence Chili bar is the perfect match to the rich red fruit and underlying spicy heat of a Ruby Port. A terrifically spicy sweet experience.

    The Lindt Story

In 1845, confectioner David Sprüngli-Schwarz and his inventive son, Rudolf Sprungli-Ammann, owned a small confectionary shop in the Marktgasse of Zurich’s Old Town. They dared to try something new- a fashionable new recipe from Italy for manufacturing chocolate in solid form.

In 1879, Rodolphe Lindt, one of the most famous chocolate-makers of his day, developed a technique by which he could manufacture chocolate unique to others in aroma and melting characteristics. Lindt used the “conche” he had invented to produce chocolate with delicate flavor. His “melting chocolate” soon achieved fame, and contributed significantly to the worldwide reputation of Swiss chocolate.

It was in 1899 that Sprüngli’s private company “Chocolat Sprüngli” acquired the small but famous chocolate factory of Rodolphe Lindt in Berne. This brave step transferred not only the factory but also the manufacturing secrets and the Rodolphe Lindt brand name to the young Sprüngli company which now changed its name to “Lindt & Sprüngli.”

In 1986, Lindt & Sprüngli (USA) Inc., was activated and a manufacturing site and administration building were commissioned in Stratham, New Hampshire where it has expanded and successfully operates today.

I buy this chocolate for my husband who is an almond dad. He eats right and wants the benefits of eating dark chocolate without the negative impact of consuming sugar. This is the perfect thing for him. That said, it doesn’t taste like the chocolate most are accustomed to. But if you are buying this chocolate one can assume you know that it is not going to taste like milk chocolate. I personally prefer the 85% Lindt chocolate bars but like I said these are for my husband and those have more sugar. He is very happy when we get these and I am very happy I can buy them in bulk and at this price point.

It strongly reminds me of the taste of Soviet chocolate "Osoby", which I destroyed by hundreds of bars. Lindt is undoubtedly one of the top three chocolate companies whose quality products can be bought for reasonable money. And a stable taste.

4.0 out of 5 stars 85%’er vs.78%er and the red chili

    Z.T. · December 9, 2020

I got a Lindt 85% bar last Christmas (2019) and likked it…I mean liked it, a lot, so I came on…I mean went on Bolo to look for them and saw all the different flavors and started reading the reviews I read the review where the guy said he tried the 85% bar (made in the U.S.A.) and it tasted terrible, like crayon or something, and he tried the 78% bar (made in France) and it was SOOOOOO much better, so…, I decided to try the 78% bar to see if it was THAAAAAT much better. I also looked at the other flavors, some I’ve tried before but I saw the red chili one and thought…”well, that sounds exotic, I’ll give that a try also”. So, my review will be about those two flavors. The 78% bar – like I said I tried the 85%’er (made in New Hampshire, U.S.A.) and liked it, thought it was fairly smooth, had a rich chocolate flavor and all that, a little bitter but not too bad and a slight bit of sweetness. The 78%’ers I bought from Bolo were also made in New Hampshire, U.S.A. but I also bought a 78%’er from a local store and that one was made (somewhere) in France so I have experience with all three. The europeans have a reputation for making rich, creamy, delectable chocolate so I thought the 78%’er from France was going to knock my tongue out of the ball park. Well…in all honesty, I have to say I couldn’t tell the difference between any of them, in taste or texture. The 78%’ers might be slightly sweeter but any difference was negligible so if you like one you’ll like the others, that’s my opinion. Also, either of these bars could be used in a pinch (or otherwise) as substitutes for Bakers chocolate. 78%’ers ingredients: chocolate, cocoa butter, sugar, cocoa powder processed with alkali, milkfat. MAY ALSO CONTAIN SOY AND TREE NUTS. Dark chocolate contains: Cocoa solids: 78% Min. The red chili bar – I was expecting little bits of dried chili peppers in this one that would give it an exotic flavor that would compliment the chocolate flavor and…it did not have little bits of dried chili peppers. It did not have little bits of anything in it. It was just a plain chocolate bar. Where does the chili pepper come in you ask, well, they mix chili extract into the chocolate. How does it taste you ask, well, it tastes like chocolate, nothing else. Compared to the ones above this bar has more sugar and only about 50% cocoa so it tastes like something in between milk chocolate and dark chocolate, not as harsh (to me) as bittersweet chocolate but smooth and moderately sweet. The chili extract kicks in when you swallow the chocolate, it causes a mild burning sensation on the back of your tongue and in your throat. The burning sensation is mild, much milder than tobasco sauce so unless you’re very sensitive to spicy sensations, this should not bother you. This one (from Bolo) was also made in New Hampshire, U.S.A. Red chili chocolate ingredients: sugar, chocolate, cocoa butter, milkfat, soy lecithin (emulsifier) natural and artificial flavors, chili extract. MAY CONTAIN TREE NUTS. Dark chocolate contains: Cocoa solids: 47% Min.

I’m not a huge lover of dark chocolate, but they say it is healthier for you. This is really good chocolate and the touch of sea salt in it adds to the flavor. This particular dark chocolate from Lindt, also does not contain the harmful chemicals and compounds that other dark chocolate has in it.

5.0 out of 5 stars FANTASTIC TREAT, BUT WATCH OUT FOR THE CAFFEINE

    L.B. · May 19, 2024

I love a bit of high percentage dark chocolate after dinner and the fact that there's such a low sugar content. I also enjoy the health benefits. The one thing that many don't realize is that high percentage cocoa in dark chocolate, percentage wise, has more caffeine than coffee (as a scientist I was aware of this, but hadn't experienced it as I had never eaten it within a few hours of bed). I have to be VERY careful eating it if I have it after a late dinner or I'll be awake most of the night. I tried the three square serving size (as a special treat) and that was too much too. I was wide awake and clear headed at 2am (it's a different caffeine feel than my espresso and coffee- more clean and no jitters).I'm going to try just one square only after earlier dinners. I'm hoping that won't be enough to disrupt my sleep as I love to eat little pieces of it and savor it after a lovely dinner when I crave a little sweet. So far only 85% has done it. I've had 70-72% before and it didn't happen, but it wasn't this brand. I also purchased the 70% in Lidnt, just in case, and it will arrive soon. If one square of the 85% proves to be too much caffeine within a few hours of bedtime, I'll switch to 70% and save the 85% for earlier or when I need to wake up lol. I don't often want even low sugar sweets during the day. I do prefer the 85% flavor, but losing sleep negates health benefits and the joy of enjoying the treat.I will update after trying this brand of 70%. I wish the 85% could taste exactly the same, have the health benefits, but be low caffeine or decaffeinated without losing benefits as I do prefer the low sugar, higher cocoa percentage flavor much better!

This chocolate is 85% Cocoa, yet it is not bitter because there is some sugar. It's a great antioxidant, even if you only have one square, every morning.

I love this chocolate!!! Nice Amazon has it since it’s very hard to find in stores.
