The hygrometer arrived about 10 days after I ordered it. What I liked about it was that it was ready to go out of the box--no need for calibration. The unit is powered by a small "button cell" battery which is provided. The dimensions of the unit are: 3.375 inches long x 2.125 inches wide x .375 inches deep. The unit is made to be mounted vertically on a flat metal surface (like a refrigerator). There is a metal mount with adhesive backing which allows you to mount the unit to a non-metal surface. The only downside to this little hygrometer is that it does not have a little stand in the back which would allow you to prop the unit up on a nightstand or table (like a picture holder). The picture of the item on Bolo leads you to believe that you can prop this up on a level surface, but you cannot. Functionally, the unit has worked very well, with humidity levels increasing when we use a humidifier and falling when the humidifier is off.

Bought a humidor for my father. It already had a digital hygrometer built into the face, however this was reading all over the map. Calibrated this with the simple included instructions and now he has every confidence that his humi is just fine. It has a three button design which allows you to calibrate it to the 75% humidity of a salt/distilled water environment. The second button is a Ferinhieght-Celcious selector for the thermometer. The third button is a nice Min / Max feature to let you see how stable you humidor is. It's about the size of a credit card and 1/2" thick so it doesn't take up much room (yet still more than a round hydro.) It includes a magnetic mount so you can mount it to a lid if you choose. It registers changes within a couple of seconds. So all in all a great buy!Update March 2013:My fatehr admits that this was his fault. He spilled a small ammount of distilled water into the unit. He immediately removed the battery and allowed the unit to air dry for a couple of days. However, after reinstalling the battery and calibrating the unit it started reading some insane readings. It would jump from 90% Humidity and 199 degrees F to 5% a 10 degrees. This unit was toast. I disected the device and looked at the PBC. I see so outward signs of shorts or corrosion on the PBC, so likely the water damaged the microcontroller. Now I've taken this from 5 stars to 3 for two reasons. We recalibrated the unit once before and like others have stated it didn't didn't read quite right, it seemed to be 5% high or low comparied to other hygros. The second reason is after taking this thing apart I was not impressed with the placement and attachment of the sensors. I've posted a pic in the main description page. I've got to say it's more feature packed that other units with min and max displays showed optionally and simultaniously in the main screen, however due to it's fluctuations and some other problems I've had with the Xikar brand, my father and I have simply lost confidence. I liked this unit while it worked and would've replaced it with the same model, however with it's couple of quarky faults, I've decided to switch to the Caliber IV.

This is the second Xikar Rectangular Digital Hygrometer that I will own. The first one has performed well, just had to replace the battery after almost 2 years. My cigars are in perfect condition thanks to this model. I suggest the Boveda products for humidification and calibration. The prices are great through CT. I paid $29.95 at a B&M cigar shop for my first Xikar hygrometer, but only $19.95 through CT. I also ordered a box of 12 Boveda packs for far less than the B&M shops sell them for. The only downside to the hygro is that the battery (CR 1225 3V) was difficult to find locally, but I see that Bolo has many available to order.NOTE: I just looked at this review and feel I must mention that the hygrometer shown is NOT the model I reviewed. The model I reviewed has a calibration button and calibrate perfectly using a Boveda calibration kit, and are still spot on. 5/20/14.

I love the large view numbers but this thing is horrible. I had to return the first one because it would only get up to 70% in a 75% humistat bag after 5 days. Second one is still outside of manufacture's specs. Go with any of the other ones they sell here. The work great.
5.0 out of 5 stars Works perfectly right out of the box, No calibration needed, Lifetime warranty, Xikar does it again
This works right out of the box and is accurate without the calibration that my old ones need. This is the only one I will buy as the newer round ones I bought do now work as consistently as this one. But most importantly, I only buy Xikar products because of the warranty. As long as i don't misuse my lighter, cutter or humidistat they take it back when it breaks, which is rare. I have ten humidors and many Xikar products. They always replace the few I have sent in over the last 15-20 years with a new one. Never a problem. They cost more, but they are worth more. I get value with this humidistat.

I purchased this hygrometer since the external analog unit built in to my humidor was extremely unreliable. I also have an internal analog version, but digital is the way to go if you need the RH% readings to be accurate. I calibrated the unit using the salt method once I received it and it has been inside my humidor ever since.PROS: The unit is very slim (thin) and attractive. It also came with a spare battery, which I was not expecting. It is very accurate and easy to mount using the supplied mounting strips.CONS: A little on the big side (length & width), so takes up a lot of space in the humidor if you just place it flat. This was an issue for me because I have a glass-top humidor, so could not mount it underneath the lid.All in all, a great little device for your humidor and a must have if you are just using the el cheapo analog hygrometer that came with your humidor. Just keep in mind that if you have a glass-top humidor, make sure you can spare the space to place this thing inside among your cigars. If not, I recommend going with the much small circular model made by Xikar (I forget the model #).

Essa é a única marca confiável em termos de medição de umidade e temperatura. A diferença para as baratinhas chinesas é gritante, tipo enquanto uma dá 50% de umidade e a outra dá 80% colocadas no mesmo lugar. Vale a pena pagar mais caro pra não pagar mais caro ainda perdendo os charutos.

Il meglio in assoluto
Xikar rappresenta il meglio in assoluto, preciso e funzionale per chi cerca igronomi e termometri per Humidor per sigari. Arrivato con ben due giorni di anticipo. Bolo come sempre leader in tutto .
