5.0 out of 5 stars Sleek and attractive and does its job
Great item. It’s attractive and looks higher end compared to a standard urn. It does its job.
5.0 out of 5 stars Reliable Brewer for Large Crowds
We use these pots at shows for the coffee company, and they are workhorses! Whether it is hot or cold, they work well in any environment. For a 50 cup pot, it takes around 35-45 minutes depending on the initial water temperature and environment. Customers love the taste of the coffee, and a nice bonus is you do not have to buy filters for this pot
1.0 out of 5 stars Urn failed prematurely, West Bend evaded warranty
After the urn failed after only 8 months, West Bend evaded their 12-month warranty by claiming that "the unit wasn't properly maintained". That isn't true, since it was used with soft water and cleaned weekly. From the moment I contacted Customer Service with my Bolo receipt and "Thank You", showing the shipping and expected delivery dates - and they were rejected - it was clear that they intended to evade the warranty. I had to go into in Bolo Account screen and make a screen shot of essentially the same information I had initially sent. They also wanted a photo, which showed that the nut that holds the heating unit onto the urn had sheared off, causing a flood in the kitchen. Even when working, the unit had other issues: when used for heating water; it kept the water so hot it would boil away within a few hours; then, when water was added, the indicator light never went out to show that the water was no longer ready to serve - but you could surmise that it was heating water because the unit howled loudly until the thermostat shut off. We called it "Moaning Myrna" after the character in Harry Potter, since you could not converse in the same room. This is a bad design and Customer Service acted in poor faith. There are so many decent urns to choose from on Bolo - this one should absolutely be avoided.
5.0 out of 5 stars Attractive and great coffee
I have been looking for a coffee pot as an alternative to my pod coffee pot when having company. This one is great, it is attractive, easy to use and makes great coffee. I just used a regular coffee filter - poked a little hole for the stem to go through and laid the filter flat. I thought I would get some coffee grounds in the coffee but I didn't . The coffee pot was a Huge hit and will pay for itself in no time when you consider I was burning through 2-3 boxes of pods every time we had guest.
4.0 out of 5 stars Problem Solved
Our church has two of these and they work great. Only problem was some of the grounds seemed to collect in bottom of pot. We solved that problem by taking a regular large coffee filter (commercial Bunn 12-cup), folding it twice into a cone, and cutting a small hole in the tip. When unfolded, it fits perfectly in the basket leaving room for the coffee to remain inside the filter. Markings are 25, 35, 45, and 55, but if using pre-measured 12 cup coffee packets, 2, 3, 4 or 5 respectively, work fine. I have always felt drip coffee was better than perked, but we have not had any complaints.
2.0 out of 5 stars Quality less than that of a few years ago
I bought one of these urns to replace one that (after three years of heavy use) was beginning to drip. The first urn delivered had a poorly fitting cover. And the handle popped off almost every time we tried to pour a cup of water. I sent it back to Bolo and ordered another of the same, assuming it was a fluke. The second urn had the same handle-popping-off issue. I gave up and just use a dinner fork to dispense water by lifting the little plastic nub, but it’s inelegant. This has been a disappointment, and I plan to buy from a different brand next time. It’s a shame because I like the style and the stainless steel instead of aluminum is important to me.
5.0 out of 5 stars Looks great. Heats up fast. Good Spout
Well made. Easy use. The spout doesn't trip. The stainless looks quality. The cord is long enough. I would highly recommend for serving hot coffee, hot chocolate, hot cider to large groups.
3.0 out of 5 stars Not thrilled
The plastic knob on the lid was stripped out when it arrived and would not stay on properly. The knob kept spinning around so you could not properly seat the lid onto the coffeemaker. The lid has to turn to so that two tabs under the side handles. We noticed after the fact that the box had been cleverly re-taped, so ours was probably a "second" that we paid full price for. We spent $8 on a tube of Loctite threadlock and glued the knob onto the screw that holds the knob on. Only other comment is that the recommended amount of ground coffee made it WAY too strong. Will save myself some money next time and use less coffee.
