About this item:
Smart. Trusted. Best-in-class. Scepter Marine is your one-source solution for innovative fuel tank technology. We've revolutionized the marine industry standards for topside fuel tanks, providing engineered solutions that look and perform better than any other fuel tanks available. Scepter is the global leader in the design and manufacture of innovative and high-quality marine tanks like this 12 gallon low profile marine fuel tank. Made from multi-layer HDPE for maximum durability. Equipped with Scepter's 2 way vented cap; This automatic air inflow valve system allows air to enter tank during operation and pressure to be released above 5 psi. Scepter tanks are built to last. Caution: Tank swelling will occur. EPA regulations have eliminated the traditional venting in these tanks. New portable outboard marine fuel tanks will not vent below 5 PSI with noticeable swelling. The new EPA compliant cap will cause the portable outboard marine fuel tanks to swell. The swelling is a result of the fuel vapor building pressure, because the cap must stay sealed up to 5 PSI. The new tanks have been tested to remain sealed and safe at these pressures even when swelling is visible. Certifications: EPA: 40 CFR 1060 Fed Emissions Regulation; ABYC H-25 (2016) – Portable Marine Gasoline Fuel Systems; ASTM 2517-17 Child Safety; 40 CFR 1500

5.0 out of 5 stars It works
I needed some extra fuel containers to take to Alaska for long stretches of highway where there are no gas stations. These worked just fine - no leaks. I read the reviews, and I can see how if you don't install everything correctly, you could get leaks, but I really suspect that human error was probably at fault. These things bulged in the sun, but they didn't leak, even under pressure. You do need to be sure to let the pressure escape before you try to hook it up, though. Simple solution - just open the fill hole and then hook it up and then close it again. My one critique is that they don't empty fully - there is always gas in the bottom - and there is no drain hole, so if you want to completely empty them, that can be a challenge. On the other hand, a drain hole would add another possible leak point, so ... I'm not sure.
5.0 out of 5 stars Works great with chinese diesel heater
Works great so far with my chinese diesel heater. It does not seem to have a check valve, though I am not 100% sure. My vevor 2kw is able to pull fuel just fine from this using a brass fitting, a quick disconnect, and a few hoses / one diameter reducer along the way to the fuel pump. This tank already has a fuel filter / mesh guard at the intake valve, so a screw cap fuel filter on your diesel heater line isn't needed. In all honesty, I would suggest not using a fuel filter because of the low pressure that comes with chinese diesel heater fuel pumps, I tried with it on to begin and couldn't prime it, only after I took the fuel filter off did it prime just fine at an even level (tank to fuel pump to diesel heater were at same level). So far so good, great tank, would buy again. Get a 5/16->1/4 reducer valve and you'll be set for your diesel heater adventures!
5.0 out of 5 stars VERY sturdy construction, great tank overall
I have a mostly inunsulated 3 car garage and run 2 parallel diesel heaters to keep it warm, I was getting kind of tired of refilling the previous 5gal bucket I had set up to fuel them so I looked and found this. It's very well made and robust. The fuel inlet that reaches close to the bottom of the tank is well designed, sturdy, and has a debris screen. The gauge is just a simple float and works great. Do note, I'm sure it says in the instructions but don't fill the tank and then drive with just the little red stopper plug in the fuel outlet port mounted on the gauge. The Gs of driving will cause fuel to leak from that threaded outlet. It's quite heavy when full, I'm pretty strong but I struggled to lift it on top of my metal cabinet. Overall it works great, zero smells from the one way vented cap and I have no doubt it'll last me. Highly recommended!
4.0 out of 5 stars A good tank even with an inconvenient flaw that is easily overcome
I always read reviews before I purchase a product. I am usually most interested in the negative reviews because I want to know what kind of problems people have had. There were three problems specifically mentioned in previous reviews that almost deterred me from purchasing this tank but ultimately did not. The first concern is that an OMC fitting cannot be attached to the tank because of the low clearance. This is illustrated in two of the pictures that I have attached. There are likely a multitude of creative workarounds but I chose the one that I felt was easiest and also allowed me to investigate two of the other concerns mentioned in negative reviews. (It is also the method that is instructed on the inside of the paper that is wrapped around the tank upon delivery). I removed the intake mechanism of the tank altogether. This allowed me to investigate two other concerns listed in negative reviews. One is that the intake tube falls off inside the tank and the other is that it leaks around the fuel gauge. Upon removing the intake mechanism of the tank, I was able to verify that the fuel uptake tube is sufficiently attached and there is a gasket to seal in the fuel. I attached the Johnson OMC hose connector to the intake mechanism of the tank and then reattached it to the tank. All of that took less than five minutes including the time it took to take the pictures I have posted. After a weekend out on the water, I am happy to report a completely functioning tank with no leaks. There was some bloating and swelling of the tank but that is a result of EPA standards that forbid any vapor leakage. I may install a vent or replace the cap with one that vents. Overall, I am very satisfied with this product and I do recommend it even though it was a nuisance to attach the OMC fuel fitting
5.0 out of 5 stars Portable fuel tank and hose.
Just what I needed.
1.0 out of 5 stars Ruptured allowing gasoline to leak
Purchased to add additional fuel capacity to pontoon boat. It was properly installed and used for 4 years. Had constant leakage at hose connection and has ruptured allowing gasoline to leak while at slip at marina. Tank faded at area where rupture occured and plastic fractured. Luckily was not full at time of leakage. Plastic at rupture site was very thin. Do not recommend for use. Original 5gal plastic gasoline that came with boat is still intact and shows no fading or leakage. Manufactured by same company.
5.0 out of 5 stars good purchase, check vent cap!
bought 9 gallon tank, the vent on the cap wouldn't vent,, tank had pressure in sun, I checked the little vent cap screw, the soft rubber orafice wasn't allowing the fumes to escape, I had to manually open the valve with little screw driver, works fine after that, I think they need a different orafice design. It's to flimsy. Just a heads up.
5.0 out of 5 stars WORKS
Going on 1 year so far with no problems. Have 3 when I go trolling. Viewing glass works well and like that the carrying handle is on the top and not on the side

Mi papa necesitaba esto para su barco. Le funciono muy bien. Llego a tiempo y sin daños.
This is a great Tank
I purchased this to use as an extra fuel tank for when I travel across the country next month. I have it in the bed of my truck along with a shaker siphon hose just in case I need extra gas between gas stations, my truck is pulling a cargo trailer with tools and household items so it will be heavy and I will burn a lot of fuel on a 5000km trip. One thing that is important, one reviewer talked about the red plastic plug leaking and he gave this tank a 2 star rating based on that, of course, that little red plastic plug is going to leak, it's not meant to stay in the fuel tank, it is only there to keep dirt out of the tank before you install a fuel line connector that has threads, the plastic plug has no threads because it is just a temporary plug so it will leak. If you want to use this as a gas can to store extra fuel like I am doing, you need to buy a proper threaded plug to replace the red plastic plug, this is what I purchased but there are a lot of different options for plugs that you can buy... https://www.Bolo.ca/dp/B006PKKSQK?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details
Use for 60 merc
Fits in my boats gas storage bin perfectly and does the job of having an extra tank of gas on board. Hook up of the hose was easy and really happy with this tank
