5.0 out of 5 stars Security isn't always cheap (Update: Maybe it is)
This is an outrageous lock. Heavy and durable. It's got a great reputation out there, as the price would indicate. It is limited in that you can't put it through 2 chain links (if you can you wasted your money getting a crappy chain to pair with a great lock). So make sure that you get a chain where the links can go through other links. II did a lot of research into locks and chains after having my motorcycle stolen, and this lock was the one that kept popping up. I now have 2 of these combined with 2 Pragmasis boron steel chains. Having 2 locks and 12 feet of chain may sound crazy, but it's flexible to lock around anything and having 2 locks means if I can't open one then I have a second option to unlock (it's happened to me). This is an expensive lock, but it's makes for a good defense against thieves.Update after 9 years of ownership: I still use 2 of these to lock up a motorcycle on the streets of NY. That's about $14 a year, so far. The design of these locks is awesome. They lay on the ground, sometimes in the dirt when lock, and that means tons of dirt enter from rain. On the worst occasion I might have to jiggle they key to get the dirt out, and just recently the worst case required a couple cycles of hot water and compressed air to clean, but it's back in order. I had it freeze up in extremely cold weather (laying in snow and ice), and less than a minute with my cigar lighter resolves that. So, not only well-built and strong, it is also durable and long lasting, making it an economical purchse.
5.0 out of 5 stars The MOTHER of all locks!
2+lbs of intimidation! After a lot of research and watching The Lock Picking Lawyer YouTube, I decided on this lock. For an experienced locksmith, this takes some time to pick. The average thief isn’t picking locks, they’re into cut and run. This lock has a high shackle guard and hardened shackle. In my case I’ve paired it with a 10’ Abus 10KS 3/8” square chain. It will be wrapped through both my pressure washer frame and hose reel frame. The ends will be fed through the safety chain holes on my trailer hitch so the lock can be attached to the bottom so bolt cutters or cutoff discs can’t get to it.The only “improvement” I’d suggest is the shackle guard is a die cast metal. This lock at this price point should have a guard made from hardened steel to prevent shattering from hammer blows.Lock was in a flimsy box that was destroyed and lock got scratched from rolling around shipping box with the keys. Maybe a bubble wrap envelope around the lock inside the box..?Doesn’t affect the performance but for $130 I’d like to at least start shiny and new.
5.0 out of 5 stars Bought to replace a "top of the line" Master lock. This lock is better in every way imaginable.
I ordered this lock used off of Bolo recently. I was in need of a higher security lock that could not be picked with the ease of a Master lock. The lock and all related items arrived in flawless condition. It comes with a card with the code to make new keys and two keys, one with an LED light on it. I was pretty skeptical about the light- usually they are pretty cheap affairs that only work for a little while. This key is very well thought out- the battery and LED can both be easily replaced if needed. Now on to the lock. "Granit" is a good name for it. Abus rigorously tests their locks according to the CEN standards and this lock rated CEN 5 on a scale where CEN 6 is as high as possible. Abus guarantees this lock to last 40 years in a marine environment as long as it is maintained every once in a while. This sucker is probably going to outlive me. The lock is substantially large and it looks like you could use it (and some creative lock placement) to keep somebody from stealing your Panzer it you had to park it in a bad neighborhood for an extended period of time. The lock was not as heavy as I was expecting, and the build quality is top-notch. It is very easy lock and unlock. Unlike many locks, both sides of the shackle come out when you open it. This little feature actually makes it far easier to put the lock on and take it off- you do not have a couple of pounds of steel awkwardly swinging around as you try to take it off and put it on. Slap the U-shackle through your chain or hasp, slide the lock body over it, turn the key 180 degrees and off you go. It is an operation that can easily be completed with one hand due to how well the parts fit together. The steel gate this lock is closing is probably now the the weakest point in the physical security that keeps people from bothering me or breaking in. In fact, if anybody does manage to get in by breaching this lock I will probably be more impressed than angry. I will be buying more of these in the future as needed.
Worth the price!
After days of research I've discovered this high quality German made ABUS 37RK80 padlock is by far the most bulletproof beast I will ever need, they were designed to lock the hatch on a tank! The body of the lock is made from high quality solid steel, the keyway is the most advanced design and 100% unpickable except by very few of the best lock smiths in the world, the shackle guard means bolt cutters can't touch it, this lock combined with a # 8 grade industrial chain will prevent any tools including cordless angle grinders from defeating this set up, if you value your bike as much as I value mine, get this lock.
El mejor candado que pueden comprar111
Es un candado en extremo robusto. Las fotografías no le hacen justicia ni al tamaño ni al peso. Es el tipo de candado que desalienta a cualquier ladrón incluso de verlo. Vale cada peso.
Lock of All Locks
One look at this lock in your hands and you will understand that this is probably the best lock you will ever own. The lock is thick, strong, extremely smooth action with the key and shackle and seemingly impenetrable. Well worth the cost to secure whatever it is you are locking up. The lock will not be the weakest link in your security, likely the hasp or whatever it is attached to is the weaker point, so get a good ABUS hasp and attach it well.
Insuperable, el mejor
Excelente, es imponente con solo mirarlo, de materiales sólidos. El peso y la calidad van de la mano, bastante costoso pero lo vale. Se desprende la parte de la argolla para fácil uso pero al cierre queda justo.
Great lock but shackle too big for typical storage units’ hasps
The padlock comes with a key code card and two keys with one having a light on it. The shear size and weight of it alone will deter anyone from trying to get it to open. As said by the lockpickinglawyer on YouTube, this lock is most likely only pickable by a handful of people in the world with very special tools and/or heavy machineries.Unfortunately, I had to return it in exchange for the 37/60 because the shackle size of 14mm is too big for my storage unit’s hasp. The 37/60 has a slightly smaller shackle (11mm) and I’m hoping that it will fit.
