5.0 out of 5 stars Great value for price, easy to assemble
This was a tough one because there are a lot of factors at play here. It's particle board, which is why it's cheap. The cam lock fasteners aren't great but once assembled and in place it seems plenty sturdy for media storage (I had to retighten them after moving it in place as they'd wiggled loose a bit).Be advised that it seems Bolo is shipping a lot of these via UPS - and I don't know if it's that courier or just the way the product is handled in warehouses but mine showed up with barely a box left; they may as well have shipped it in a plastic grocery bag. It also arrived 4 days later than promised (but I guess thats just the deal you get with Prime these days, right?). Despite that, except for a few chipped corners, all parts and hardware were still there so that's a plus!Assembly was simple, it took me 10 minutes by myself. Instructions are clear pictures with written instructions, also goes together intuitively. So yeah there are issues; but also, it's a great price point for what you get. Once the backing is secured, it actually feels very sturdy, and you can't beat the capacity for the small footprint! It looks clean and simple, has lots of shelves and options for adjustment, fits about anywhere you'd like to put it, and is designed in such a way that if you ever needed extra storage one day, adding one beside the existing would look seamless (a huge bonus for media collectors!).All in, I can't give it less than 5 stars. I'd buy it again!
5.0 out of 5 stars High Capacity CD/DVD Media Cabinet
Assembly was easy. Be gentle assembling the unit. It is made of particle board with a thin film veneer. Once assembled, it is very stable. For the price, it is an excellent cabinet that easily holds my 400+ CDs with room for more. It looks nice and doesn't take up a lot of room.
1.0 out of 5 stars Stay completely away from this junk!
You are going to read a lot of mixed reviews about this product. I suppose you could call this media cabinet by Atlantic a "hit" or "miss" product. For me, this was a huge miss. I wasted 90 minutes of my time with this piece of junk -- 70 minutes to put together and 20 minutes to dismantle to put back in the box and return it to Bolo.Decades ago, I used to work in a video store. One of my jobs was putting together video furniture. There were always two types of furniture we would provide for our customers.....expensive and cheap. You got to know the manufacturers and how consistently well or poorly constructed their furniture was. Back in the day, one of my favorite manufacturers was SAUDER. However, you paid a premium for their storage cabinets.Right out of the box, I could tell immediately that this company's product was crud. You could see the signs of badly constructed pressboard. Still, I knew what I was getting into when I shelled out a mere $70 for this elaborate shelving system. I opted to go cheap, and I ended up paying the price. The one good thing I can say about Atlantic is that they labeled all their pieces. However, even with that feat accomplished, I ended staring at the instructions for minutes on end trying to figure out how this went together......that is, until I realized, they forgot to include page #3 of the stapled instructions. So, off to the Internet I went and downloaded their instruction manual .pdf.As I examined the shelves I could see defects in the workmanship. There was warping in the pressed wood. As I inserted and turned screws, the brown coating started coming off of the press board. An hour into the construction, I found that the locking system would not properly align --- no matter how many times I gently forced the screws into the wood. The entire bottom section of the cabinet had a sizeable gap because it would not properly align and lock into the upper system. Here's a perfect example of how badly designed this case is....The holes for the wooden dowels are too big. The dowels do not fit tightly in the holes. They should. After all, these are pivotal pieces of guiding hardware that connect the parts together. Instead, the dowels just sit there loose. They fall out all over the place when you connect the shelves together. The round locking mechanisms don't always lock properly. So, now you have sections of shelving that are wobbling because they can't properly be secured. In all the years I have been putting together furniture like this, I have never seen something so poorly conceived as this shelving unit. The final straw came when I turned it over, in an attempt to nail the backing into the shelf. I could see a huge chunk of pressboard had just become loose on the side. I have included a photo below. There is no way something like that can be covered up.I then had to spend the next 20 minutes unscrewing and dismantling the entire cabinet. I contacted Bolo and have started the return process.Dear reader, I know you will be tempted to buy this cabinet because the picture looks nice and there are more than a few reviews from people who are happy with their purchase. If you want some advice from someone that has put together dozens of these kind of shelving systems over his lifetime -- and knows the good stuff from bad --- then please stay away from this piece of junk. There's bad furniture companies and then a step down from them is Atlantic.I have never seen such an awful product --- from build quality to the mere fact that you can't even properly align and screw this thing together. The sole purpose of this company selling this product is to make a quick buck off customers who want cheap furniture. Do yourself a favor and spend a little more money. What that will do is give you less heartache during construction, and, a nicer-looking piece of furniture in the end. These are the kind of products you learn from. By that I mean, you learn never to go cheap -- and if you do, you are taking chances of either getting something that will work for you or hours of wasted time.Brands to consider: Sauder, Venture House. Spend a little more money and get something that will make you happy.
4.0 out of 5 stars Looks Good, Stable, Fairly Easy To Assemble, But Could Have Quality Control Issues
UPDATE (2024):I ordered a second unit and one of the side panels had significant quality control problems. The plastic grommet was partially filled with residual plastic, and all of the other holes on the panel had the vinyl wood veneer partially overlapping them. So I had to carefully fix all these issues with an X-Acto knife. While this wasn't a big issue for me as I'm a retired R&D engineer and son of a carpenter, I'm not sure the average consumer would have recognized what the issues were and been able to so easily fix them.So while my original review stands, and the second unit came together just as sturdy and good looking as the first, I had to take off a star as a warning to other consumers and Atlantic Oskar. One or two minor defects would have been fine, but a panel with every hole defective should never have been shipped.ORIGINAL (2021):I wasn't quite sure whether or not to purchase the Atlantic Oskar Adjustable Media Cabinet because of mixed reviews, with some claiming it was of poor quality, difficult to assemble, flimsy or unstable after assembly, etc. However I found none of that to be true for the unit I received, and I'm very happy with it. It looks good, is very sturdy and stable, and was relatively easy to assemble. My suspicion is that, because of the similarity of the parts, many people are assembling the unit incorrectly. It's really not difficult to assemble, but you have to look very closely at the pictures and make sure you're using the correct parts in the correct orientation. For example, the side and middle planks look almost identical, except 3 have lock nuts on the end and 3 don't. And the bottom plank has to be correctly oriented or the screws attaching it won't be countersunk and instead protrude a bit from the bottom. And when you turn the unit over to nail on the backboard you have to hold the middle to support it a bit because the extra lip on the bottom holds one end up a few inches making it slanted when it's on its face. However I've assembled many pieces of furniture over the decades and this is par for the course for any assemble-it-yourself unit. The bottom line is that this unit is actually above average in quality and ease of assembly, and I highly recommend it.
DO NOT BUY
Very flimsy. Shelves fall easily, not even minimally stable. Waste of time and money. Opted to trash it right after assembly.
Great for storing movies
When I fill this up with movies I'll definitely buy another. The instructions help keep frustration to a minimum when assembling and does a good job at showing you how it goes together. Once it was put together I started putting movies on it and I noticed it starting to lean away from the wall it was up against. I countered this by folding a few pieces of cardboard and wedging them under the base to make it lean back towards the wall and there is no issue.
Enough shelf to help organize my CD collection
Easy to install. Enough shelf to help organize my CD collection of different sizes.
