5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Best All-In-One Lubricant / Cleaners for Electronics and More
This MG Chemicals "Nutrol" lubricant/cleaner is the best "all-in-one" product of its unique kind. I have been using this product regularly for nearly 20 years. Another reviewer, Oscar, analogously describes this product as a "more purified and electronics-oriented WD-40." Well said. I'll go a step further and say that Nutrol is far more useful than WD-40 on a much broader spectrum of surfaces and objects. WD-40 can weaken/damage certain plastics (WD-40 reportedly contains gasoline). In contrast, Nutrol is safe on all plastics (I can attest to that after 20 years). Oscar defines Nutrol as a metal-to-metal lubricant. He's right -- Nutrol's highly refined lubricant oils are superb. But there is more... Nutrol is also an excellent plastic lubricant. Nutrol's lubricants do not have the longevity/permanence or waterproofness of some of today's modern lubricants (like high-tech paraffin waxes); nevertheless, Nutrol's lubricant oils won't quickly dissipate or quit lubricating. Additionally, Nutrol provides superb flushing action (for electronics, armatures, motors, etc..). In fact, Nutrol's highly refined oils are non-staining and very light to the touch; nevertheless, this is indeed an oily product, at least initially. Importantly, Nutrol does not remain a wet oil-slick indefinitely to attract dust or cause grime; it dries fairly quickly without a significant loss of efficacy. However, because it is oily, excess Nutrol should wiped up. Finally, Nutrol is an excellent contact cleaner. Just keep in mind that Nutrol is not a quick-dry or non-drip cleaner like isopropyl alcohol, electrical contact cleaner, or DeoxIT D5. Instead, Nutrol is an oily contact cleaner spray, at least initially, and the spray can includes an adjustable spray head which is very useful. I use Nutrol for tons of tasks, such as cleaning, lubricating and restoring electrical fans, including computer cooling fans. I'm constantly amazed how clean, silent and efficient operating each fan becomes. I use Nutrol on my USB ports for super-smooth connections and disconnections.
5.0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended as a gentler cleaner for potentiometers and wafer switches
In the antique radio world, this comes highly recommended for cleaning and lubricating wafer switches and potentiometers (volume and tone controls), when cleaners like DeOxIt may be too harsh and attack the carbon film in some pots.My success story involves an old Zenith radio from about 1941 where the volume control was frozen and when I freed it up with penetrating oil around the shaft, the volume adjustment was scratchy, and the power switch did not always make a good connection. I can testify that with careful prying to expose the innnards without things flying apart (just enough to squirt some cleaner inside), the control was restored almost like new! The volume control was smooth and noise free, the power switch worked great, and the control was easy to operate like it was new! It also cleaned up an intermittent tube socket. While I'm not ready to completely give up DeOxIt for connectors and such (use it sparingly), I'm using Nutrol on pots, slide switches, and wafer switches from now on!
5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Product - 3 Reviews In 1
This is a three part review. Part 1 is for MG Chemicals Nutrol Control Cleaner. I have used it over the past month or so for several applications and it is an excellent product. It has restored controls, switches and connections to a "like new" level of performance. In the past I have used CAIG Labs' DeoxIT, so I have something to compare it to. Both are fine products, but IMHO Nutrol is a click better. Five stars for Nutrol.Part 2: Bolo's Customer Service--When I received the can of Nutrol, I removed the top and saw that it arrived without the nozzle / button that one pushes to spray the product. I requested a replacement, but Bolo wanted to speak to me and called me about it. I explained the problem and requested a return label so I could return the can to Bolo and after they received it, they then could send me a replacement. The person I spoke with told me Bolo would not issue a return label or replace the can that was missing the nozzle, but they would issue me a full refund. I was to keep the can and dispose of it in an appropriate manner. IMHO, sending me a return label and a replacement would have been preferable. Three stars for Bolo's Customer Service. The next day I e-mailed MG Chemicals and explained the problem to them. I wasn't writing to try to get a replacement (or even a nozzle), but to alert them that there might have been a problem with the production run and my can with its missing nozzle was possibly not a singular occurrence. I assume the process of attaching the nozzle to the can and then putting on the plastic cap is automated, and given that the cap covers the nozzle, a missing nozzle would possibly not be discovered until the end user takes the cap off. I expected perhaps a polite thank you and maybe an apology, but MG Chemicals Customer Service asked me for my address and said they were sending me a replacement can of Nutrol at no charge. They went on to say that once I used up the free replacement can, I could remove the nozzle and spray wand and put it on the original can. Ten stars for MG Chemicals Customer Service people. They went far above and beyond what I expected. I'm old school and this is the way things used to be done: With integrity.
Worked Perfect
In my opinion this is the best product to use for cleaning potentiometers. This cleans and lubricates, unlike contact cleaner that only cleans.
Quality product.
This has been a very useful product in restoring my. Vintage electronics. This does a good job of cleaning and removing carbon deposits without damaging or diminishing neighbouring components.
The price and quality was excellent
The container was a perfect size for the occasional repairman, specifically for removing the scratching sounds of used controls on all types of amplifiers. The extended tube that can be added to the nozzle makes it east to get into the controls.
Good Product - does not damage paint when used on guitar pots
