La Tourangelle Toasted Sesame oil is pure, all-natural and handcrafted from high-quality sesame seeds harvested from South America or Africa. The seeds are toasted and then expeller (machine) pressed to extract the oil. This oil is filtered several times and then bottled. Our mill slowly roasts the sesame seeds using lower temperatures. The result is a deep amber, richly flavored oil with a subtle toasted taste. Sesame Oil has long been the universal cooking medium in Asia, imparting the characteristic flavor to the foods of its regions. In Chinese and Korean cuisine, it is added as a flavor highlight to cooked dishes. The Japanese often add about 10% toasted Sesame Oil to the oil used for tempura or deep-frying, creating a rich, background flavor. American cooks may want to use Sesame Oil to flavor an Asian stir-fry or noodle dish or as a marinade for meat or fish. Sesame Oil, rice vinegar, fresh grated ginger, and mustard is a delicious dressing for any combination of salad greens. Sesame Oil, is an ancient ingredient. The Assyrians used it as a cooking oil more than 600 years before Christ. It was expensive, however, and a hundred years later in Persia only the rich could afford it. It is still used as a medicine in India , and oil pressed from the raw seed is a massage oil in Ayurvedic medicine. Its low saturated fatty acid content and high unsaturated fatty acid content makes it a very healthy oil. Not the typical cheaper sesame oil you see in your local Asian groceries. Its premium nutty and aromatic taste makes it an excellent add on to stir fry and fried rice.

Compared to other toasted sesame oils this one is very mild both in smell and taste and doesn't overwhelm other flavors. It's more like regular than toasted sesame oil in terms of flavor and aroma and works well in dressings and dips. It has a high smoke point making it suitable for everything from sautéing to deep frying. Overall a good quality oil.

This is SO much better than the off-the-shelf stuff you find in a supermarket. I find the texture and flavor smoother than anything else I've tried with the perfect balance of nuttiness. This is a brilliant polish on egg-fried rice and hummus, if you're in to those dishes. This will remain a staple in the pantry!

I use it to lightly cook vegetables like green onions, mushrooms, and also eggs. I also add a bit to drained noodles like hand cut noodles in addition to a bit of the sauce the noodles come with and it makes the noodles SO MUCH MORE AMAZING. This is a key ingredient for flavor and texture for noodles. This is my favorite brand of sesame oil.

I love the taste of this oil and use it on all sorts of things from Asian cooking to salads to drizzling on ramen. My smaller can of this stuff ran out, so I decided to get this larger size because I use it so frequently. The smaller can lived in my fridge for probably a year with no signs of aging, taste or consistency. That's why I trusted that I could keep the larger can for as long as I'd need it. I can't say how it would hold up in a cupboard since I always keep it in the fridge.
Decent quality, low on flavor
The oil doesn't have a strong toasted flavor... it's not much different than a regular sesame oil.
