5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Memories
OMG!Flashbacks to my Mom making this bread in a coffee can in the 50s and 60s. Taste is awesome, perfect.
5.0 out of 5 stars New England
I lived in Maine most of my life and brown bread was a Saturday night staple with beans and franks. When I moved to Florida, nobody knew what it was.I found it on Bolo and it’s just as wonderful as when I was growing up.
1.0 out of 5 stars Gooey and awful tasting
This stuff is a challenge even for the best of us New Englanders. I used to make it from scratch myself and it was fine. I have no idea how the recipe is different with this one, but it's gooey and will really mess up your toaster. And the taste, whatever's in it, is gag-inducing. Even the raisins (the few that there are) are really squishy and icky. I wish I could return it, but I opened it, so can't return it.
4.0 out of 5 stars This was good
Remeber this as a kid and loved it than and bought after seeing it. Not quite what I remeber as a kid but was better toasted and with some butter on it. Cream cheese would have made it so much better. Did sent to my mom also and she loved it.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great bread in a can
My husband makes this delicious and beautiful salad. The brown bread is a must for the chicken salad and tuna salad. Our small town grocery store did not carry it so we were thrilled. We could get it delivered.
3.0 out of 5 stars BROWN BREAD WITH RAISINS IS HE ONE TO ORDER.
Brown bread with raisins is hard to find. This one did a good imitation of what I have had in the past but not flavorful enough. Crumbled to easily. It needs to be able to be sliced in toaster-size or sandwich zsize pieces. Best served with GOOD baked beans and a good quality all-beef frank. The best way to heat the bread is to take off one end place it in a saucepan and bring it to a slow simmer. The moisture from the steam helps keep it soft and it will heat evenly. Of course, this method was used before Microwaves but much better. Slower but tastier in the long run. You can be heating. your beans with franks floated in them at the same time. 2 burner meal ready in no time. Lots of butter on the brown bread, cream cheese is an alternative but butter works best for even melting and flavor. Not margarine if you can afford butter it is better. The bread was a little pricey but it is hard to find. for me it brings back fond memories of dinner with my family.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great treat
I gave it as a gift. She loved this vintage favorite. Not sugary sweet. Great with cream cheese ! Yum !
5.0 out of 5 stars Just like I remembered
When I was a kid my mother made us a meal of brown bread and beans. I wanted to do it myself and searched several of my area stores but could not find the brown bread. I saw it on Bolo and ordered it. I must say it tastes just like it did back kn the day...fantastic.
Loved it!
We were surprised how moist and delicious this is, a darker bread, like pumpernickel, but lightly sweet like a dense bran muffin with a nice polasses taste. We enjoyed it plain, with butter, toasted with cream cheese and a bit of jam. Great for camping or prepping.
