Bolo price is cheaper than local stores for this high quality NISIKI premium brown rice. Other brands of cheap brown rice taste tough and fibrous like animal-feed rice. This rice is sweet and softer than white jasmine rice if cooked right. I put 5 cups of rice, plus plenty of water with 1 TBS. potassium citrate to de-lead and to take away cadmium. Soak it overnight. Then I rinsed the rice a few times and leave 3/4 inch of water above. Bring it to rolling boil for a few minutes, then COVER and cook on low heat for 45 min. Then TURN OFF the heat, and leave on stove for 15 to 20 min. I spread the rice on big plates for it cool down fast, then freeze in small pouches that last for 2 weeks. Takes only a few minutes to microwave frozen brown rice for healthy and fast meal.

Tastes great, not a strong flavor like other brown rices, so it was an easy transition from white to this. Ive tried other brown rice brands and it was difficult to keep using them, as the taste was more overpowering. I'll be sticking with Nishiki in the future.Mine had no bugs in it, which had me a bit worried after reading other reviews. Luckily was not an issue.Cooked up fine in my Zojirushi rice cooker on the brown rice setting.

This arrived today and I opened it right away, fearing some of the concerns with bugs or other issues noted in other reviews. The bag I received was in perfect condition and all the rice looks great. I transferred it into gallon ziploc bags because I wanted to check and be sure there were no issues with any of it. Absolutely perfect.One thing to know about storing whole grains is that they will develop infestations if not used quickly or stored properly. That's true for spices, whole oats, wholegrain flours, and many other dry goods that people might not use quickly. So it's best to take some care with their storage.It absolutely needs to be stored in an airtight bag or container. No matter how clean your kitchen, over time something will find its way into rice if it isn't sealed up 100%. Stored at room temperature, uncooked plain brown rice normally only lasts for 3-6 months, depending on humidity, airtight seal, etc.The freezer is a better place to store anything you won't use within a month or so. Personally, I divided the 15 pound into three one-gallon ziploc bags. I got as much air out as possible and put all three in the freezer. We will use it straight out of the freezer (does not need to be thawed--makes no difference to cooking).If you don't want to store it in the freezer, at least keep it in the freezer for a week -- this will kill any tiny possible weevil eggs or similar already in the rice (which is super common in grains and spices). But ideally, the freezer is the best long-term storage option.

I absolutely hated american brown rice when I tried it. then I tried some brown rice at a korean restaurant, and it wasn't the same at all (purple). the same at a japanese restaurant. now I don't know what qualifies as brown rice, and what doesn't, because they were so much different. but anyways, this is my favorite brown rice for making at home. different from white rice, but not hard and crunchy like some others. I've never had any problem with bugs ordering this from Bolo (sold and fulfilled by). I'll usually pay an extra 5 cents to get it from Bolo instead of some unknown seller, just in case
