5.0 out of 5 stars Works for dippers
I have dipped for about 8 years. Although I have successfully quit cold-turkey a few times, there are a few problems. First, once in a while a friend (or temptation) gets me started again, and then I have to go through the hard process again. Second, I like the effect of nicotine. I have an advanced degree and do an intellectually challenging job, so I like the added boost of the nicotine and the way it makes my brain synapses fire just a little bit faster. It's like putting 91 octane fuel in the car. BUT I also don't want to die of cancer, and tobacco is way too expensive anyway. So I came looking for nicotine gum and found that this Kirkland brand was by far the most affordable option on the market. The price fluctuates here on Bolo from about $55 per package (380 pieces) to about $85. Shop accordingly and you will get a decent deal. In comparison with Nicorette and other brands, this is an outstanding deal. Now for the product itself and how it works. I find that 4mg is the minimum nicotine level for anyone who uses dip. I have read before that dippers on average get about 6-8 mg per dip, so one piece of gum would give you slightly less, and two would be about equivalent (though I find two pieces is too powerful). The flavor is fairly light and pleasant, kind of like a mild juicy fruit gum. You can tell how much of the nicotine has been extracted from the gum by the color. When you first put it in, it is bold yellow, but by the time you finish it starts to turn white. The downside to this is that it lets off a yellowish color into your mouth, which is very noticeable at first but gradually dissipates as you chew the gum and saliva circulates. I don't think the yellow color stains teeth like tobacco does -- at least I have not noticed it after months. Just a temporary yellow color. Best of all, the pieces of gum are easy to remove from their packaging: just fold the marked corner, peel back the paper, pop the foil with your finger, and pry out the gum. I can do it in about 3 seconds. Even so, they are completely child proof, so I don't have to worry about my daughter eating a piece. I find the whole package here (380 pieces) lasts a really long time and saves me hundreds (maybe close to a thousand) a year over what I spent on dip. Best of all, I can chew at work, I can chew around my children, I can chew around friends and coworkers, I won't get cancer from it, and nobody will be the wiser. Some of us like nicotine: thankfully there are safe and socially acceptable ways to get it for a decent price. Keep it coming, Kirkland.
5.0 out of 5 stars Superior Quality and Great Value
This product stands out as both affordable and of much higher quality compared to others in the market. From my experience with similar uncoated products, I suspect that around 30% of pieces from other brands are either ineffective or have irregular taste—likely due to poor mixing of the source material. With this product, the difference is clear: it's the best in terms of consistency and quality. While about 10% of the pieces have a slight irregular taste, that's still far better than the competition. Overall, this is the top choice for anyone looking for a reliable and well-mixed product.
5.0 out of 5 stars I feel like Gwyneth Paltrow in one of her movies saying she ...
9/6/2017 I broke down and bought this at $69.99 in August. Then Habitrol dropped to $62 so I ordered that in Sept. Crazily I miss the Kirkland gum and don't like the mint coating on Habitrol anymore. The Kirkland seems to have more of a kick and lasts longer. So now I don't care if it is more yellow, I'm craving Kirkland gum! We don't have a Costco card but our daughter does--you can order from their website and have it shipped to you free and it's $59.95. I may have her pick it up for me but she's not too crazy about my gum habit. I go thru 380 pieces in a month!7/23/2017 Not Happy how this price keeps getting jacked up. I bought it for $59.95 when Habitrol hiked their price up. Kirkland gum then jumped to $69,99 and now $73+ . Habitrol has stayed at $69.99 recently after their price hike. Sigh. Guess I'll just go back to CVS and their sales. Kirkland gum is very yellow anyway unlike all the other brands I tried. Redeeming factor was price.----------------------------------------------------------------Adding again: Went back to this after using Habitrol Mint 4mg for past 6 months. The Habitrol 384 or so pieces went up to $79.95 and delivery time way out. Having a hard time adjusting back to Kirkland. The Habitrol tastes so much better, lasts longer, and isn't yellow. But price won out and the Kirkland got here super fast.Adding to original review: I am about to reorder because the price is right and gum works great. It is easy too pop out; I always had problems with foil sticking to Nicorette brand. One thing I will mention is the dental hygienist said there was a yellow coating on my tongue! I had thoroughly cleaned my mouth before going but chewed nicotine gum on the way...Original post: Well, I feel like Gwyneth Paltrow in one of her movies saying she needed to start smoking again because she was addicted to nicotine gum! LOL That is me...I quit smoking for 17 years then my mother was in hospice in another State and my younger brother smoked. I bummed a cigarette and another and that's all it took. I wanted my own brand. So I came home smoking and, unfortunately, my husband started back, too. He does not use nicotine gum. He tried patches and had weird dreams to that was that.I ended up taking a job in a non-smoking environment (aren't they all?) and you have to go smoke on the loading dock. So I chew nicotine gum all day at work. I am a pro at talking on the phone with it tucked in my mouth and you can't even tell. I have spent a fortune at CVS buy one/get one 50% off. Saw this on Bolo and it was one sale so ordered. The quantity and price are great. I used to get Original at CVS (not mint or any other flavor) and the CVS brand was smaller and a bit easier to open. The Kirkland almost looks like it has a coating and cis larger (not like the small flat CVS original) but I have gotten used to it.It works and tastes great and I enjoyed the convenience of ordering a large quantity online for less $'s. I would recommend!
4.0 out of 5 stars Overall best value that I have found
I've tried a few brands of generic nicotine gum (RiteAid, CVS, Walgreens, Target, Walmart and Kirkland). Kirkland is similar to all of these with the exception of RiteAid brand which has a stronger, more chemical taste than the rest. This is the best price I've found ($59.95 at my local Costco, so very slightly cheaper here at the time of this writing), followed closely by Walmart's Equate, then Target's Up&Up brand. Walgreens, CVS and RiteAid are all higher priced. Although my favorite brand is Nicorette, it is nearly twice the price (at Costco) for the same quantity as this. I go with Kirkland because it's a great value with reasonably good texture and taste. Although I can't confirm this, I believe this is manufactured by Perrigo, just like most of the other generic store brands. If you prefer flavors (mint/cinnamon/fruit) you might try one of the other generic brands. I go with unflavored because I noticed I was treating the flavored gums more like candy and using more than I needed (the flavor subsides after a few minutes, so I wanted another piece).
