5.0 out of 5 stars Saves your breath
I bicycle commute all year round, and I live in an area prone to thermal inversions. Bad air quality due to particulates is of particular (no pun intended) concern. Hence, I originally purchased this respirator five or six years ago to filter out as many particulates as possible. It is light and while I will not say that it is totally comfortable to wear while bicycling, it is most certainly tolerable. And it is most certainly very helpful. The respirator was also helpful in the fall while I was raking up dry, dusty leaves. Then I developed allergies to pollen, and found that using the respirator while mowing the lawn and doing yard work significantly reduced the production of mucus (the body's mechanism for trying to clear particulates out of our respiratory system) with its accompanying cough and sore throat. Most recently, extensive wildfires spewed smoke for weeks into the valley; once again the respirator helped protect my lungs. I spotted my letter carrier wearing a similar respirator.Sure, I get a few wierd looks from people. But I get the last laugh; my doctor said she treats many, many people with respiratory problems during bad air episodes.I go through about one respirator per year, and in my opinion the health gains are well worth the expense and minimal hassle.
5.0 out of 5 stars Worked really well
Did a lot of spray painting of items in my garage and this mask was a tremendous help keeping me from inhaling fumes and particles. This one worked a LOT better than a thinner mask I used in the past. I did only give it 4 stars instead of 5 because it is very hot/uncomfortable to wear - the straps are not uncomfortable...just it being on my face made me sweaty, but it's better than breathing in the fumes - small trade off. Very glad I found this!
5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding mask for wildfire smoke season!
This is the best mask I have used for when the wildfire smoke is really bad outdoors. With the mask on and fitted properly, I can't even smell the smoke. One mask lasts me one fire season each year of nearly daily use for 3-6 weeks. It's most important to make sure the nose fitment is as perfectly bent to your face shape as possible. That's where it's most likely to leak on the edge of the mask.
4.0 out of 5 stars Protects your lungs!
This mask works! It’s one of the best that I have tried. Perfect for diy projects, painting, or overall protection. My fiancé and I run an auto body shop and the painting of cars releases harmful VOCs into the air. Although, my office is outside the body shop sometimes I do need to go in to check on things. The reason I knew this mask worked was because I had entered the shop one day after paint has been sprayed and could not even smell a hint of paint.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great for home improvement projects
Great for home improvement projects where you don't want to breathe in dust or if you need a good mask because of dealing with some potential mold issues. It's nice and thick (so beware if you're one of those people who find it difficult to breathe with a mask on), and the valve helps to keep you from being too sweaty under the respirator. If you take good care of it and aren't using it for hours on end and not using it with potential exposure to mold, you probably could get a few uses out of it before needing to toss it.
5.0 out of 5 stars Good mask
I HAVE to wear a mask to work outside, there is nooo mowing without one..This one is great, the wire makes it fit on the nose, the collar around the edge keeps the seal. It really filters the air.I will say that working in a mask is uncomfortable, because it's hot and it also blocks the view when looking down. But, the clean air is worth it. Plus, it has the valve to exhale your breath, so that helps. You can't just sit and wear a mask like this, it takes work to pull in the air, so if I am doing heavy work, that is fine. I even breathe through my mouth some of the time if I am working hard. But, if it's hot, you will sweat inside the mask.I can use one of these for a year or two, just mowing the yard once a week. It may look dirty but it's still good. When the air doesn't seem as clean, I switch out for a new one.
3.0 out of 5 stars Great protection 4U, no protection 4others (if UR sick)
Excellent 99.97% protection for you on inhalation, but 0% protection for anyone else (if you are sick) on exhalation. For this reason, Honolulu hospitals and city buses do not allow this mask unless you have a 2nd mask covering the valve. The valve allows the mask to remain cooler and less humid; this makes it more comfortable than non-valved masks initially so it almost got 4 stars (which leave room for improvement by mask designers). It also didn't get to 4 stars because it gets uncomfortable after 2 months (see below). Additionally, to be effective, the fit is snug which is comparable to other masks; thus, overall it can only earn 3 stars for comfort. While cooking in my car's trunk on weekdays between weekend use, this mask lasted 2 months hence the 3 stars for durability. The foam interface with the skin breaks down and cuts into the skin, but the discomfort is still tolerable after 2 months. In 2 months, the elastic bands lose their elasticity so it has to be tightened every week. The great protection is offset by the inability to use in certain places because of the valve, by higher costs, and by lower durability hence the 3 stars for value. This was my replacement order so I did order again.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great adjustable respirator
This is a great choice for someone who wants a respirator that is not one size fits all and is adjustable. I really like having a n100 option that can be more reusable depending on what you need it for. I will admit that it not the most fashionable mask out there but it is top notch protection and you can always wear a fun mask over it. overall its a solid value for what you get.
