About this item:
The camera's angle of view multiply the camcorder, digital/video camera by 0.43 times, which more than doubles the angle of view of the camera. Great for landscapes or recording in situations where a little creative curvature of field , it is wanted for a certain style. This excellent lens can be separated in two pieces (unscrewed): macro part and wide angle part. So you can use it both ways: like macro lens (without wide angle part) and like wide angle with macro together! This is a very unique feature of this lens for its price. So for the price of only ONE lens you are getting TWO! It stay blurry when you zoom
1.0 out of 5 stars Cheap... in more ways than one.
Bought this teleconverter for use with a Canon HF R800 HD camcorder. Small sensor, large lens... I thought the image quality should be good. I was wrong. As you zoom to the maximum zoom of the camcorder, the image becomes very distorted and poor. Lots of internal reflection reduces contrast dramatically. Lots of colour separation on the outer edges of the image as well as distortion. Effectively unusable with that camcorder.
4.0 out of 5 stars Accurate info... Besides the covers.
It does what it states it should. I'm happy with the purchase. The covers don't fit the lens though.
3.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't really work
I can't blame this unit. I tried others and get the same result. If someone finds a solution that works, please let me know. The problem is a thing called vignetting. The telephoto lens does screw right onto the Canon VIXIA HF R800, 80 or 82, but if you are zoomed all the way back you see the edges of the lens barrel so you have a round image, not rectangular. You can zoom in past it, but when you get to your subject, it is clear in the center, but the edge focus is aweful. I figured a larger barrel might fix the problem so I purchased an adapter and 2 different 58mm telephoto lenses. Same issues. If I go larger I would need a counterweight on the back of the camera and I don't think even a 67mm would make a difference. And no one will chime in and even help. I spoke with Canon and since they don't make extra lenses for the VIXIAs they wouldnt even give me an opinion. I spoke with Zeiss, Sony and a few other lens manufacturers and the wouldn't confirm or deny either. I think it is the lens in front of a lens that just doesnt work. If it was an expensive camera where you could remove the existing lens, they swapping lenses would work. Seriously, if someone finds a way to add telephoto to this camera, please post it or let a few of the video gurus doing comparisons of the Canon vs. everything else.
