5.0 out of 5 stars A great entry level Humidor
I bought this because I entered a local men's "finer things club". We get together a couple of times a month, smoke cigars and sip bourbon (or whatever happens to be on hand). Having never smoked a cigar in my life, I didn't want to spend a lot of money on what could be a passing fancy. My first impression with this humidor was the fantastic smell of the cedar. Cedar wood mixed cigar tobacco increases testosterone levels in men (this is not an FDA approved review, but ask any human male and they will tell you the same). I followed the directions with the curing process (which wasn't difficult), and I've been rewarded with a dependable Humidor that keeps my cigars at the optimum humidity. All of the joints fit tight, the humidity gauge works and it looks good on my desk. Now that I've been introduced to the cigar lifestyle and finding it enjoyable, I will probably upgrade at some point. However, the Mantello brand will be the first name I shop when I do, and I'm not really in any hurry to replace it.
5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent humidor for the price!!!
I've wanted a humidor for years and finally purchased this one. I've had it for just over a week now and so far I'm extremely pleased! For the price, I guess I wasn't expecting it to be as nice as it is. It was packaged perfectly and the glass top was very well protected for shipping. It appears to be very good quality and it's nice and solid. The top has enough weight to make a good seal when closed and the hinges hold the lid up sufficiently when open. Please do not be discouraged by any of the reviews complaining about breaking in the humidor. I will admit that the included instructions were full of typos and not exactly clear about what to do, but a quick Google search or a conversation with your local cigar shop employee will tell you everything you need to know. Just plan on it taking a couple of weeks before it's actually ready to use. The analog hygrometer MUST be calibrated prior to use! Mine was off about 10% and would certainly affect the quality of the cigars. Please don't think that this is a defect! For several years, I did calibrations of pressure/temperature/humidity devices for a living and they can be thrown off very easily if they are not left in their normal environment. i.e. Shipping & Handling. The salt solution/bottlecap method found online works perfectly if you follow the instructions. Also, the wood inside the humidor is kiln dried and needs some time to absorb moisture to hold a steady humidity within your desired range. I went the cigar shop route and grabbed a couple of 84% preset two-way humidity packets and threw them both inside with a shot-glass full of glycol/distilled water solution (also available at your local cigar shop). After about a week, I'm still only at about 74% (useable range), but I live in the Northeast part of the US and it's extremely dry here in the winter. It does still seem to be creeping up 1-2% each day and the cigar shop employee that I spoke with said it might take about 2 weeks. I was told to wait at least that amount of time before removing the 84% packets and placing a single 72% packet in the humidor along with my cigars The pre-set two-way packets cost a couple of bucks each and don't require adding a distilled water/glycol solution. I was told they would last up to 6 months or so and would start to harden as they reached end of life. If you choose to use pre-set packets, there is no need for the piece included that you have add a water/glycol solution to regularly. However, I'm told that it can be added as well to help prevent mold/fungus, so it might not hurt to leave it in there with just a small amount of distilled water/glycol solution added from time to time. Your call on that. All and all, I'm very happy with this purchase. It looks nice enough to leave out where people can see it and it's great to have fresh cigars to share. I don't smoke often, so previously I had to stop by the cigar shop whenever I felt like having one or risk them drying out. If you are like me and have been on the fence about getting one for a while, try this one out. I don't think you will be disappointed!
5.0 out of 5 stars Great humidor! No leaks. Check seals first though!
To start off, I am a new at cigars and wanted to get a nice humidor that would look wonderful on my desk and show off when I needed to. At this price point, many noted that I would most likely be disappointed with the quality of the seal and it would be best to find other cheaper methods than a wood humidor.Despite that, being me, I bought this humidor anyway! Note that I have only had it for almost two weeks and therefore this may be too early of a review.Upon arrival, the humidor looked wonderful and was very well packaged in a box and packed with foam pads. I performed the dollar bill test and the seal around seemed to be good.Knowing the mentions and problems associated with glasstop humidors, I did myself a favor and bought some aquarium sealant and sealed off the inside of the glass top first before finding out if I needed to anyway. The analog hygrometer included was actually quite close to calibrated, only off 2% with the salt test and has stayed accurate since. I still bought a digital hygrometer to put inside however.I seasoned the humidor by placing a bowl of DI water inside for around 3 days which got it to 81% RH. I put in beads (65% HF Beads) as my humidification and my cigars to get the RH to drop and stabilize. After a few hours the humidity did drop to 65-66% and has stayed steady since. So far, the humidor has worked wonderfully and just needed a little bit of work to assure the glasstop was sealed. It looks wonderful and sleek and I love looking at it and at my cigars through the glass, which is also convenient to look at the hygrometer and cigar quality without opening the humidor. This is a great humidor, just make sure you check the seals and know the problems with glasstops before you get one or start using it!Update (4/24/2020):Just figured I would put out an update now that I have had this humidor for around 2 years now. This is still my main humidor and have been using it ever since. I have not had any problems with humidity or leaks and with a quick clean off the glass, it still looks just like new.The only single negative I could find about this humidor was that the built in analog hygrometer is pretty much garbage. It stayed true for a few weeks when I first got it but after a while I constantly had to readjust it until I gave up and just let the digital hygrometer do all the work.Overall, love this humidor. Definitely a great starting point for people wanting to get into cigars. Again however, know the limits of a cheap glasstop humidor before you get it, then prepare for it. I definitely think sealing the glasstop of this humidor with aquarium sealant the moment I got it is really what got this thing to last and not have any problems.
Great price
Great price and good quality product
Very good
Works exactly how I was hoping and it will fit Churchill sized cigars
Muy mala calidad
Vino bien empacado pero es de tan mala calidad que seguro desde el origen ya vino quebrado comparto fotos donde se ve claramente que la tapa es de MDF y no de madera, decepción total, no lo recomiendo para nada
Value for Money
Made well. Good finish, fits a good amount of cigars. The meter as well as the humidifier works accurately. Took 3 days to cure, but after that the cigars have been staying well and humidity is stable. I fit in about 4 different size cigars in mine. No gaps and openings
Damaged package
I received the item, it looks very nice, but the outside box is very damaged. And I requested it for a gift.
