5.0 out of 5 stars Lightning Fast Monopoly
Monopoly Deal is a small card game that I had low expectations for. It was on sale so I decided to give it a try.Gameplay: Each player starts with 5 cards in their hand. At the start of their turn, they must draw 2 cards then play up to 3 cards. They can either play an action card, a property card, or any card into their personal bank. At the end of their turn, they must discard down to 7.Playing cards into your personal bank is valuable, because eventually you'll need to pay rent or some other shenanigans will occur requiring you give money to your opponents. The catch is, you can ONLY play money from your bank/property, never your hand, so you always want to have cash on hand or else you'll have to pay from your properties - and change is not given. The game ends when one player has completed 3 sets of properties.Pros:1. The game is quick2. The game doesn't take up much space (box or table play area)3. There is some strategy4. Game teaches set-collection, hand management, and math.5. The game is quickCons:1. There is a lot of luckThe game plays quickly at least compared to normal Monopoly. I like that it is a minimalist sort of game - it's just a deck of cards so it doesn't take up a lot of space on the bookshelf and the game itself is easy to play on a card table. I like that this is an easy game that we can play on a weeknight. What I don't like is that it is highly dependent on luck. There is some strategy, e.g. don't play cards that can complete your opponents set unless you can complete it yourself, because some cards allow properties to be traded or stolen. You might be out of luck if you don't have a card to cancel those effects. And always have some money available to pay up rent - keep the small change, because no change is given! So in a way, this game can teach the concept of hand management - making good decisions on what cards to keep or play. This game has similar amounts of luck as another Hasbro card game, Life Goals. However, that game has a storytelling element. This game is less humorous and the "take-that" or attacks on other players is more prominent; it's a more vicious game.I did with the last game, but the victory seemed hollow - I just happened to be lucky with my card draws. I didn't do anything to win except follow the rules.Other Monopoly games that we've tried recently include Monopoly Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves and Monopoly Chance. Monopoly Chance is the most different from the standard Monopoly formula and I think definitely worth checking out because it has different game mechanics and vibrant plastic skyscrapers. Although both of those games are longer I think they are more fun than Monopoly Deal.Monopoly Deal is easy to play, it's small/travel-size, but I don't think it's one that I will keep. There are a lot of other card games that are small and quick to play that are more fun.If you are interested in small card games that are easy to play with families, I would recommend instead Life Goals, Timeline or Cardline (at least it's educational and has lots of picture), Similo, or Abandon All Artichokes.
5.0 out of 5 stars Fun, quick, easy to learn, surprisingly popular
It’s been a real hit with my friends at the bar. Quick and easy to learn. Feels like monopoly but isn’t dragged out and super long. Turns are fast. I like it much better than real monopoly, and my big monopoly fan friends like it too.Downside is that many little subtle rules questions can pop up that aren’t addressed in the official rules, so you will eventually have to develop some house rules
5.0 out of 5 stars Quick fun game
Game is fun and quick. Easy to learn. Great for a group of kids.
5.0 out of 5 stars Fun even for 2 players
Once you play through 2-3 rounds the game comes naturally. It’s simple, to the point, and fun. And yeah, 2 player rounds can be played in as little as 15 minutes so it’s perfect for killing some time in a pinch. It’s gonna be a must bring when traveling along with Uno.I think younger kids might have a bit of trouble understanding at first so it will take them probably about 5-10 games to fully understand the basic game - especially as action cards get thrown around. Thankfully there is a set of 4 game guide cards included which helps with repetitive questions.
5.0 out of 5 stars A great substitute for the board game
My 12 year old daughter is monopoly board game crazy, but a full game takes way too long. This card game is a fantastic substitute, and my daughter almost likes it more than the board game. Best part is most games are done in 5 to 15 minutes!
4.0 out of 5 stars Tiny font
This is our second deck and this deck has smaller font and the colors are not consistent. Fun game, wish I could get the older version with larger font.
5.0 out of 5 stars Family game night
I enjoyed these so much that I ordered another set. Definitely kids approved. I have a 10-year-old and a 12-year-old and they really enjoy playing this game night. Also when they have sleepovers, this is what they do with their friends as well. Everyone seems to enjoy it. The rules are fairly easy to follow along. Would highly recommend.
5.0 out of 5 stars So fun
So fun and an amazing game and can actually be done in 15 minutes and gets competitive
Great easy game
Good games for friends or family game night, easy to play
Es buen juego
Viene en inglés, no es tan fácil entenderle las reglas aún así con un poco de esfuerzo. Lo recomiendo.
Good to have some time with kids.
Kids really like to enjoy, they are always excited to play. It can be completed within 15 mins. If 2 players playing would be good to have 5 sets to win. 3 sets are too easy. Rules are not complex too. Go for it.
Good quality
Good quality game cards my 9 year old loved it.
