5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for the pantry!
I like to keep this on hand for recipes and if we should run out of milk. It's delicious and mixes easily. I will continue to order from Hoosier Hill Farm.
5.0 out of 5 stars High Quality Product.
My husband and I bought this for a camping trip because we like cream, real cream in our coffee, I had tried powdered milk, but I may as well be adding water to my coffee, and so we looked in to buying some powdered cream and this was the best deal that we could find. I really like that the ingredients are just freeze dried cream, nothing more. I was a little bit weary of the taste, I thought it might taste weird, being it is dried, so I gave it a few different test to see how it fared.I first tried it with instant coffee, and it had a weird taste to it, and I was not impressed with the flavor of the cream, it tasted like cooked cream essentially, and I was very underwhelmed. Then, I tried it with real coffee, fresh brewed, and I had quite a different experience, it taste just like normal cream, maybe not really fresh cream, but it was perfect. I had it 3 days in a row like that, and it was perfect every time. I went back home and tried it with instant coffee again just to see what it would be like, and the answer is that it was definitely the instant coffee, it was the same as the first time I tried it. If you use this with an instant coffee, use it with a high quality one, mine was not, and it effected the flavor of the cream. As others have stated, it works best for mixing if you initially mix it in a small amount of liquid(preferably hot) before incorporating with your whole batch of anything. You don't need to make a paste, but about 4 parts water to 1 part cream should be good for mixing initially.I will definitely be ordering this again for use while traveling with my coffee, I am very impressed with it, and I plan on trying some of this companies other stuff as well, I am excited to do so, I hope they are as good as this cream.God Bless ~Amy
4.0 out of 5 stars Great Flavor
The flavor of this is just as you would expect cream to taste. It's certainly a great product to keep on hand so you don't have to worry about store bought cream being used up in time. The issue I had with it is it didn't seem to thoroughly mix properly. I mixed as per the instructions and chilled, again as per the instructions. Occasionally I stirred it, but only the top quarter inch or so every achieved the look and texture of fresh cream. The rest stayed more like milk consistency, maybe a little thicker but not much. There seemed to be small solids that didn't dissolve. I'm not sure how exactly to explain it.I used it for the first time tonight in a recipe and found it to work exceedingly well and the taste was identical to if I'd used fresh cream. So for cooking it appears to be great, which is what I bought it for anyway.
5.0 out of 5 stars Good flavor
This is "clumpy" until you learn that you need to really whip it into things (follow directions). I'm pleased with the quality and flavor
5.0 out of 5 stars Great Product
I added the powder to warm water. It clumped and wouldn’t mix well. I used my Immersion blender, it mixed right together. I almost never have creamer on hand. This product will allow me to have heavy cream whenever I need it.
3.0 out of 5 stars Not what I was hoping for
After reading the reviews, I thought I would try this product. I bought a frother, as all the reviews pointed to the importance for mixing. I made my first batch with my purified R/O water, and even warmed it up in the Microwave. It blended well and I used more powder than I thought I would, but I was looking for a rich taste and not watery. It did thicken up a bit, but the taste just was not what I expected. I added a little salt that helped just a bit, and then figured it would be better after a night in the refrigerator. In the morning I used it with my rich coffee and it did not look as creamy by a long shot as regular half and half like I am use to. I added some more, more than I would with half and half, and it just does not taste or look like what I am use to. I did have to shake it up first, and it had a little bit of granular texture even after sitting overnight in the refrigerator. I was actually disappointed, since I have had success with using powdered cheese in the past. If you are thinking this will save you money, I don't think you will. I tasted it as a powder, and it just doesn't taste that great. Nice container, nice powder consistency, nice price, but I am going to go back to the real thing. In conclusion, it probably tastes kinda like the powder cream that comes in packets in hotels. Perhaps it is great if you want zero or low fat in your coffee cream. You don't know unless you try it, so I did. I will not be buying this again.
1.0 out of 5 stars My taste test of four main brands of Heavy Cream Powder
I ordered the four main brands of heavy cream powder I could find, mixed all and did a taste test straight, as well as mixed with my favorite powdered milk (Peak) to create a "half and half". In order from best to worst these were my preference:1. Judee's Heavy Cream Powder - closest to the mild sweet taste of fresh cream2. Anthony's Heavy Cream Powder - reminds me of raw grass fed cream and milk I've gotten from a co-op - has a grassy cow-y taste that I am not a fan of, even if it's actually more natural. Once mixed with powdered milk that farm taste is less pronounced and the two come together well enough to create a fair approximation of fresh full cream milk. If I hadn't tried Judee's I'd probably settle for this one, but since Judee's is much better, I dumped it.3. WillPowder Heavy Cream Powder - my first taste hit me with a strong industrial refrigerant or walk-in freezer taste - if you've ever had desserts from a restaurant stored too long in their display case so the cream picked up that distinctive refrigerated smell that your own fridge doesn't have, or if you've ever noticed that smell in a restaurant's walk in freezer - that is what this tastes like. I thought maybe after it was mixed and settled overnight or even two days it might dissipate, but it did not. The texture is fine but the taste is not. I dumped it.4. Hoosier Hill Farm Heavy Cream Powder - an odd unpleasant taste. Nothing like cream. Surprising, because I like other Hoosier Hill Farm products. Dumped it.
Quite pleased with the taste
I have tried Hosiers whole milk powder in my coffee and tea and didn't like the taste. It would not replace the half and half that I have been using. So I bought this heavy creem powder to try it out. I put one level tablespoon of heavy creem powder in my 12 oz cup along with the tea bag before adding the boiling water. The hot water helps the powder dissolve and after about 2 minutes of stirring, the powder had completly dissolved with no lumps or chunks floating on the surface. Now for the taste test. It does not taste exactly like real creem but is an excellent substitute for hiking and traveling. I would give the taste a 90% rating compared to real creem. Much better than skim milk powder or whole milk powder. I will definately buy this product again as it is the best substitute I have yet to come across to replace real creem. Much healthier than Coffee Mate which is made up of chemicals and contains no milk products what so ever.Update re shelf life: Some reviewers have noted the short shelf life when stored at room temperature. This does not apply if kept in the freezer as it will keep for years if frozen and does not have to be unthawed to use as there is no difference in usage between frozen and thawed in it's consistency. Also, this product is available in 2 lb containers now to save cost. Product label now says no hormones were used in it's manufactor which was a concern of mine since US dairy usualy comes from cows treated with growth hormones to increase production.
I bought this because I was wasting money on creamers ...
I bought this because I was wasting money on creamers now with this I can make just the right amount saving money but it is immediately obvious that this is a very high quality artisan product with many more culinary uses. I plan to use it as such as well as try some of their other products which all seem to be of the same high quality. It should enhance many desserts and baking for those who are so inclined.
Expensive for a 3/4 Full Container
I live in a rural area of Ontario & got this mainly to add to protein shakes if I run out of heavy cream. The taste is very good in my shakes & fine in coffee as long as the coffee is very hot so it blends well together.Be aware tho, that since it is sold by weight, when you get the container, it is only 3/4 full which is disappointing at this price point.
Good, but difficult to mix.
Difficult to mix but the taste is quite good and certainly excellent for any baking/cooking requirements. Cost is a tad high.
Amazing product!
I love this product... adds tasty, smooth creaminess to your recipes. I've added a few tbsp to my buttercream frosting and it was so delicious! My family was raving at how good it was. I will definitely buy this again and again!
