5.0 out of 5 stars Best Popping Sorghum I've Found
I just popped an entire bag (pound) of this product and it's the best one I've tried so far. I would say 65-85% of it pops; if you know sorghum that is very good. Traditionally only about 50% will pop at most. It also requires a very hot pan and oil and is more difficult to pop than regular popcorn. I cannot understand all the negative reviews. Perhaps unrealistic expectations and lack of understanding. This product is great and organic to boot. I cannot eat corn of any kind and once I discovered how to pop sorghum I have been incredibly grateful to have something similar. This brand tastes excellent and pops very well in my hands - you absolutely have to know what you're doing to optimize the results. You also need to understand 20-50% of it may never pop - that's just the way it is with sorghum, regardless of brand. Period. I hope this company continues to make and offer this to those of us who can only eat popped sorghum. It is more expensive than others I've tried, but they no longer exist (!!) and this one by far pops the best I've tested to date. Keep up the great work Nate and PLEASE continuing making/offering this excellent product. Many thanks!!! :)
1.0 out of 5 stars It doesn't pop, it burns
Tried the first time, used my regular corn popping method and it burned horribly.Tried it again using much lower heat, more careful shaking the pan, more attention. It never popped, just started smoking and smelling, got very dark, even with more shaking, stirring with silicone spatula.Third time? Nope. I gave up. Very disappointed. Would REALLY like my money back!
3.0 out of 5 stars Good bad?
Kernels are really small.Flavor was in my opinion …bland.Great thing about it was no husk, however the un-popped seed are hard to separate ?For me it’s not worth the trouble to pop it.Try a bag…For you it might be greatest thing since pop corn 🤷♂️
4.0 out of 5 stars Takes some time patience but good !
The media could not be loaded. I've purchased a bag of this brand already popped and loved it but its pretty expensive for the amount ,so I thought ide give it a go and do it myself ! I first tired to do it in a pot like regular popcorn on the burner with a nice amount of oil ..completely failed ! So how it worked best ?I used a small frying pan and heated the pan first til hot ! then added a tiny bit of oil and a small amount of seeds to see if it would pop. It worked! I kept covered woth the lid and shook , I did lessen the amount of seeds I put in after the video because it was still wasting them so I put half the amount and did many batches .and kept adding oil as I did batches . It didn't work w no oil for me and I also kept it covered and let in air off and on by liting lid after shaking and closing it ..over and over and repeated that until it was poped I still couldn't get evey seed poped but most and a couple batches I got all but 1 or 2.. but yea it is veryTime consuming in the end I ended up with close to 4 oz . I dont eat alot at once so it works . I still have alot left in the bag so still a better deal then buying the 4 oz already poped bags . I plan on working on My popping and seeing if i can make it easier .
5.0 out of 5 stars Read up on the product and know what to expect
Read up on the product and know what to expect. Sorghum, by its very nature, will not have a very high pop rate and the kernels are tiny. It's a delicious novelty and I thoroughly enjoyed it despite making a huge mess trying to pop it uncontained.
1.0 out of 5 stars waste of time, all burnt
well, I was excited to make this. And followed the popping instructions from the video exactly. I know how to cook, so it isn't me... Ended up with nothing but a burnt mess. And cannot return the product.
2.0 out of 5 stars Not pop well
I tried to poop this in the microwave but it burned and not much popped. I tried using a pot on the stove. More popped but the seeds were so tiny that I had to seat several at once to taste them. I also ended up eating un-popped kernels as well. I don't like this product
5.0 out of 5 stars It WILL pop
It just needs to be hot enough. I put 7 out of 10 heat on the electric burner. No, it doesn't all pop, but every single little bud is crunchy, like the best crunchy ones at the bottom of the bowl with popcorn. I'm grateful for this sorghum as I can't eat corn. And almost all corn is GMO anyway.
